Question Eggwhites without ovulation?

Is it possible to have eggwhite fluid without the release of an egg. Like your body was doing everything it can to prepare for the egg, but then it just didnt release?

I wanna know because I had the eggwhite discharge, and I did the pinch tests to make sure it was eggwhites, and I even got a big glob of it after a few days after it first appeared. Which usually the glob means that it is the day of ovulation.

When i spread it thin on the toilet paper, it gets really shiny. And it stays on top... While all the other fluids absorb, and become hardly visible.

But my temperature never went up, in the days afterward. Does that mean I did not ovulate?

Heather

HeatherB--yes i've read about that in Taking Charge of Your Fertility..very common for PCOSers...it's because our ovaries are trying to ovulate but then they don't. it's like they get stuck--kind of like a broken record.
you probably did not ovulate. i've had that happen to me before many times and i never O'd on my own.

dang, that is disappointing. I was thinking that something was happening. I want to avoid clomid, so i was excited to see the eggwhites. It's just disappointing that i might have to take that route. The doctor already wants to give it to me, but given all the side effects i am terrified.

I even read that clomid can make big cysts on the overies, and other damage. I dont want to make myself worse. (plus the dry vagina is not good for the sperm, so that makes it difficult too.) and the mood swings, ugh

This sucks.

HeatherB--you could get a cyst with Clomid but usually the cyst goes down within a month. there is really not that much to worry about with the oral medications. if you dry up with Clomid too much, you can try Femara. i had almost no side effects with it. what kind of doctor are you seeing though?

A fertility doctor. I am not seeing an endo.

Is Femara for the same thing, to release eggs?

I got this off of fertilityfriend.com :

My temperature has dipped below the coverline during the luteal phase. Does this mean I didn't really ovulate? Could I still be pregnant?

The coverline carries no physiological meaning. It is just a visual tool to help you see your ovulation pattern. Whether or not your temperature rises or falls below this line does not necessarily indicate anything significant. Individual temperatures can fluctuate at any time of the cycle, for both hormonal or non-hormonal reasons. A single dropped temperature usually doesn't mean much. You want to look at "the big picture" and see a pattern of temperatures over time. As long as you can see a biphasic pattern and a trend towards elevated temperatures after ovulation, there is no need to worry about a single dropped temperature or two.

If, however, you have so many lower temperatures that you can no longer see a biphasic pattern on your chart, (and you are taking your temperature accurately) this could mean that you did not yet ovulate and should consider yourself potentially fertile so you don't miss an opportunity to conceive.

For what it's worth, I also have seemingly constantly fertile CM, but I know it doesn't mean I'm ovulating because I'm both charting and using OPKs. My OPKs in particular work for me even though I don't usually get a positive one until about CD 60 or more. Us PCOSers have fertile CM because we have higher levels of LH most of the time and our bodies keep trying to ovulate but our hormones keep that from happening consistently. And yes, it's totally annoying.

it is because we (PCOSers) tend to have higher than normal LH compared to our FSH, so that is why you see more CM at random times.

Femara is the other oral medication that fertility doctors (reproductive endocrinologists) will use to get you to ovulate. some will prescribe Clomid and then if you are resistant to Clomid, they will give you Femara, or they will just give you Femara first like in my case.

Heather - I'm experiencing something similar and yes, it's quite common to see fertile CM and not actually ovulate. BUT, it's also not uncommon to get several patches of fertile CM throughout the cycle so just because you haven't ovulated yet, doesn't necessarily mean you won't ovulate at all. In past cycles, I've gotten 10 or more days of EWCM before O'ing so don't count yourself out yet.

The way I see it is without fertility meds, having PCOS causes wacky things to happen with our bodies at random times. But, better to have some indication of possible fertile times than having nothing happen at all. This could all be a sign that you are gearing up to ovulate so hang in there and try not to let discouraging temps get the best of you! ((HUGS))

Yep... I had the same thing this week... had EWCM Monday and Tuesday but no temperature shift... no O for me. It is possible to have multiple surges during one cycle... I'm still hopeful that my body will try again and be successful. But for right now, it looks like my body tried and failed. (Typically it will be at least 5 days later if your body gears up to try again...)
