My daughter is 13 and has been having problems with starting her period and major back pains since January. She has been tested for everything under the sun except PCOS. I suspect she has PCOS, because she has several of the symptoms. Her pediatrician will not refer her to a gynecologist or endocrinologist. We really need help finding a doctor in Lubbock Texas who can test her for PCOS.
If you can help me in any way it would be deeply appreciated. |

She really needs to be seen. What about taking her to your doctor and by-passing the pediatrician altogether? Also, being in the US, do you need a referal to see a specialist? (I'm from Canada where you do.)
As PCOS is really a hormonal reaction to an underlying metabolic issue (usually Insulin Resistance), an endocrinologist would probably be best. You should also start now on doing what you can to make some lifestyle changes. A low-GI-type diet and whatever exercise her back pain will allow her to do are the basics. Check out the FAQ's sticky, too, for more info. Take care, and way to go on standing up for your daughter!!!
