Hello,

I just wondered if anyone had this experience or had any advice to share. I started taking met (1500mg) back in Oct. of last year and things were going great. I lost about 8 lbs. and my energy levels were up and my periods within a day or two of taking out the nuva ring. But, now I'm back to not being able to lose any weight, my periods are taking 4-5 days to come after removing the nuva ring and my skin is so painfully dry. I have always had dry skin, but my skin has never been rough to the touch (not too sexy I know) and I have been a rash on my legs that comes and goes. For the most part I feel fine, but I can't figure out why I can't lose weight and my periods are off again. I increased my workouts and diligently watch what I eat. Do I need to have my dosage of met. increased?

Any advice woud be helpful.

Thanks!

Have you had your thyroid checked? That almost sounds more like thyroid than IR.

I would ask your doc about it.

Well, they always think I have a thyroid problem, but they can never seem to find anything in the test. I think the last thyroid test was about 4 yrs. ago. If you looked at the symptoms for thyroid I would be a classic case, but because they can't see it on a test the Dr.'s usually rule it out. But, I called my Dr. anyway to see if she would order a new test. From what I can tell the parameters for measuring an underactive thyroid have changed so maybe it will be different this time.

Thanks for the input!

There's a thread on the Fertility Board about Thyroid and fertility - I posted it there, and it has a great link to info about a special kind of test to ask for. It is different than the regular test, and is not common for docs to think of themselves, but will show up "hidden thyroid" issues.

Also, many women here have subclinical hypothyroidism - thyroid levels that are low, but technically still "normal". These women usually benefit from a low dose of thyroid med.

Good luck, and HTH!!! 8)
