I'm not very happy with my doctor. Either she's greedy or overly concerned about malpractice, but she makes me make an appointment and come in to receive any information about anything. Everything must be separate. One appointment for bloodwork. Another to get the results of the bloodwork. One for an HSG. A week later, I can come in and finally get the results of the HSG. Nothing can ever, ever be over the phone. I'm sick to death of it.
Plus, her bedside manner is curt, and she never really takes the time to talk with me about anything. She just shoves papers at me for me to read at home.
Looking for a good RE anywhere in Westchester. Prefarably near Yonkers, which is where I live.
Thanks y'all.
who did you see??? I saw Tavdy and that is how I felt about her. She gave me some bad advice and did not seem sympathic to my situation. I have recently changed to a doctor in Yorktown so that is 40 mins from you but he is really nice. There is also a great doctor in Mt Kisco called dr Socolow. They say he is very good.
I wish you luck!!!!

I am going for my 3rd visit with Tavdy on 7/13/05. Why do you say she gave you bad advice? Should I be nervous?
Hi,
I just feel like I got some mis-imformation from her. to give you some examples, I was getting terrible stomach problems from the Metformin, I asked her if I could take the whole amount at night or if she could put me on an extended release. She said no, that I would have to take it twice a day and BEFORE meals. I then went thru 3 weeks of hell with stomach problems. when I went back she did not like that I did not lose weight so she boosted up the rx, even though I was saying I could not handle the current dose. Then after a terrible experience on a flight to Arizona (vomiting, passing out, cold sweats) I called her to ask her if this could be a side effect from the meds. She said absolutly NOT and just blew over it. I was terrified...I thought I was dying on this flight so when she said it was not from the meds I went thru weeks of uneeded tests just to be told from another doctor that I have dangerously low blood sugar. When I advised him I was on the metformin he said that was what caused my incident in the plane. I was sick that she just blew me off...sure enough after seeing another doctor in Yorktown, he told me right away that the metformin will cause low blood sugar in people without diabetes so to make sure I have sugar on hand in case I have an attack (also the rx sheet from the pharmacy also said that). He also said it was fine to take the med at night WITH dinner and he also gave me the extended release. Since then my stomach has been much better and I am not sick during the day. These are all things that I asked dr tavdy to do and she just ignored me. I have learned in that past if I don't feel heard from doctor, than I need to move on. You might have a different experience with her and I hope that you do. The main goal is to feel confident with your doctor and feel like you can talk to them, if you do than I am glad and I wish you speedy recovery. If not I would suggest you interview new doctors until you feel right. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Good luck!

I use Dr. Kissin, who is in the NY Diabetes Center in Yorktown Heights. I have found her to be very personable, and very helpful.

hey all, it's been ages since my initial post, but it looks like this got bumped at some point, so I thought I'd post an update.
The doc I wasn't happy with was Dr. Christina Veit in Tarrytown. I ended up switching to Dr. Daniel Stein in Manhattan, and was MUCH happier with him. Better bedside manner (though not perfect), and most importantly, he's up on the latest treatments for PCOS. There were a bunch of issues on which I disagreed with Dr. Veit, such as I felt my met should be raised to 1500 from 1000 since 1500 is the therapeutic dose, and also I wanted a glucose tolerance test. As soon as I started seeing Dr. Stein, he made those changes without my having to ask for them- turns out my instincts were right.
With the extra metformin plus clomid, I got pregnant on my second cycle. I was really lucky. But I feel Dr. Stein played an important role as well. :)
I highly recommend Dr. Nanette Santoro in Hartsdale/Scarsdale area. In fact, I was extremely happy with all the Dr.s and staff there (at Montefiore's Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Health). They helped me concieve my DD a year ago. Dr. Santoro is super knowledgeable and VERY well published. She is aggressive in all the right ways, which is exactly what you need if trying to concieve. Their office was great and my early pregnancy support and care was like nothing I had ever experienced before. I just cannot say enough good things! We have now moved to North Carolina and I am already trying to figure out how I can go back to NY to see her when we are ready for number 2.
Good Luck.

Well, my story is interesting. When I moved to NY I had a diagnosis of endometrosis. I had a number of PCOS symptoms, but my previous OB/GYN, despite years of visits, tests, and a laproscopy missed the PCOS. So, when I moved, I called Montifiore and asked for a specialist in endometrosis. That is how I got in to see Dr. Santoro. So, she originally treated me for my endormetrosis with several months of Lupron in order to ready my body for conception. When my period never came back she gave me progesterone and sent me for an HSG. At the next visit she did an intravaginal ultrasound to see if I had ovulated. It was then that she remarked that I had huge ovaries with the classic "string of pearls" pattern. She then basically ran down a list of symptoms of PCOS. My diagnosis of PCOS seemed clear as day....and I became very angry it had been missed for so long by my OB/GYN. Would it have killed that OB/GYN to investigate why I didn't have my period rather than slap me on BCP? Anyhow, I had not ovulated so Dr. Santoro gave me several choices about how to go about trying to conceive. I chose Clomid, she prescribed it even though it was late in my cycle. Only a miracle.....I actually concieved my DD that cycle......on Day 28. As soon as I was pregnant, they began taking blood every other day to make sure my hormones were on track. As it turned out, my Progesterone dropped (probably because I conceived so late in my cycle). So, they put me on Prometrium and I did not miscarry. Due to the endometrosis I had SEVERE cramping early in pregnancy (the scar tissues tearing and unadhearing organs from one another whille my cervix expanded). I was in a fetal position crying on many occasions. But, they kept me coming in the office every few days and did ultrasounds, medication, etc. Once all of that was stable she sent me to a high-risk OB/GYN in the area for my 2nd and 3rd trimester. My daughter is 6 months old and thriving!
