Hi,

I live in Schenectady and used to run the NYC MEtro PCOSA Chapter. I am now on the PCOSA Board of Directors and would like to be involved in a local informal support group.....let me know your thoughts

Hi! You're the only response -- we'll be a small group!! :) Do you know of any other groups in the Albany area?

Hi there,

I don't live in Albany, but am about an hour away in New Paltz, NY-- however, I'd certainly be willing to travel to meetup, esp since there are no support groups that I know of in my immediate area.

I just recently became aware of PCOS and even though I'm not 100% positive I have it, I can recognize A LOT of the symptoms in myself. I've also been to my MD, a dermatologist (for acne and hair growth), a gynecologist (who prescribed spironolactone and NuvaRing, a form of birth control), as well as a psychiatrist for depression, anxiety, moodswings. I never realized all these conditions could actually be all hormonally related and now I am thinking I should consult an endocrinologist. I'm concerned about being on too many medications, though, especially if the endo recommends another medicine.

Currently I'm taking Paxil, Spironolactone, and am supposed to start using birth control at the end of my next cycle. I need some serious help making these decisions and I don't feel well-informed enough about it myself. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it!

About 45 miles southwest of Albany. Not sure if I would be able to make meetings as my time is pretty limited these days but hopefully that won't always be the case.

I have been diagnosed for about 6 months and am on 1500 mg Met XR daily. It has worked well for me, my periods are like clockwork now and I've lost about 20 pounds as well. Still not pregnant but there are other issues beside me there.

Just thought I'd say hello.

HI Everyone I'm in MIddleburgh, NY and would love to meet. And since I'm here I'll ask any good GYN's and Endo docs around the area? I've had PCOS since I was a teen, DX'd when I was around 20-21, now 34 and still have many issues. Thanks

I live right outside of Albany. I recently learned about PCOS and am still very uninformed but recognize that I have been dealing with many of the symptoms for sometime. I would appreciate talking to someone who knows more than myself.
Thanks.

Just wanted you to know you are not alone out there, there is tons of information on this site and on the web. I was dx'd when was about 20 and still have many things connected with PCOS. How were you DX'd? Was your doctor helpful? If you have any questions let me know I will tell you what I know.

I am currently living in Albany, finishing up my Master's degree in Public Administration. I am orginially from Long Island and I sometimes feel lost without my PCOS doctor here.

I was diapnosed at age 19, having gained over 60 lbs throughout my sophomore year of college. This happened without my changing anything about my lifestyle. Right now, I weigh about 100 lbs more than I should (at 5'1'') and my hair is thinning. I am only 23. I am on Metformin 1500 mg and Ovcon 35 as my BC. I find it extremely difficult to lose weight - even though I've been basically eating as if I were a diabetic since high school (my mom was diagnosed with Type II when I was 2) and I am pretty active.

I would love to meet with other women who know what this feels like. My friends are all healthy, thin, normal 20 somethings - and I'm well...not. Support would be nice.

I would like to lose weight before next summer - I am planning to move in with my boyfriend at that time. I don't want to start the next part of my life like this.

Glad to meet you all

I live in the Albany area and I am a student in grad school too. I have had a rough road with PCOS. My symptoms started in high school when my periods stopped coming and then I suddenly gained 50 pounds. I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when I was a freshman in college and I was confused because there is no family history of diabetes. I never gave up trying to understand how I could have developed diabetes at such a young age. I eventually came across an article on PCOS and realized that it was the explanation for the insulin resistance, stopped periods and weight gain. I have my diabetes under control and I exercise and eat well all the time but the hardest thing about this condition is the fact that I carry all my weight in my midsection. I am often humiliated by people asking me if I am expecting. It is ironically heartbreaking since this condition can lead to infertility. I think it would be great to talk to other people who understand how challenging it is to live with PCOS.

I already feel better reading all of your posts! :) I know I am not alone.

Maybe we can continue a support group on this forum so that those who live farther away can participate. What do you think?

So when are we going to meet b/c I would love to be a part of this group!! I'm 24 and was Dx just this past summer. I could really use some advice and someone who knows what it is like to be able to grow better facial hair than their husband or boyfriend!

Hey Albany women--Let's get this group together! I created an email address for us, so write to albanycysters@gmail.com if you are interested in joining and meeting up... unless a group has already officially formed and started meeting, in which case--what are the details? :)

Either way, hope to meet you all soon!

HI, I live in Columbia County and was recently diagnosed with PCOS. Do you all meet somewhere. I have been doing a lot of crying since the diagnosis and the unable to get pregnant thing.
Thanks

I live in Columbia County near Chatham and would love to come to Albany to meet somewhere. I really could use the support and advice from those of you who have been dealing with this for a while.
I am headed to a RE soon, I posted another topic on the subject seeking advice for who to see if any of you know.
I know where we can meet if that has been an issue. I have lots of Friends that live in the downtown area.
Talk to you all soon hopefully
