Hello,
I'm in the Milw area. I actually starting see Dr. Strawn at the Medical College. So what the are the details as far as the seminar goes? I'd love to check it out. I've finally been diagnosed as PCOS. Not the normal PCOS patient. Only amenorrhea and higher glucose levels is what confirmed my doc's diagnosis. No luck with TTC yet. One period with Metformin so that's a start.
Talk to you soon.

The seminar is Monday March 14th at Froedtert, you need to register ahead of time.. you can do that at there site..
I know of 1 dr for sure who does fertility in Racine, a Dr. Carver I believe her name is, this is who my sister in law used. Otherwise there is a good group in Kenosha too, with United Hospital.

Thanks for the information. I'll contact them to see about registering. I really would like a good understanding of what PCOS really is.
Thanks again,
Donna

I live in the Milwaukee area and will be attending the seminar on Monday. I just completed my second round of Clomid. While my first round I O'd, w/out Preg, nothing happened the second round (the follicles were too small). Next month my dr. is starting me on 100mg of Clomid. We have an appt. with a specialist at Froedtert in May if the clomid doesn't work (Dr. Gloria Halverson). Has anyone heard of her?
This process has to be the hardest thing I have ever dealt with and the side effects of the clomid are not helping matters. I cry all the time and feel like I am in a nightmare or something. Is this normal?
Is anyone attending the seminar on Monday? I am really interested in meeting other people who are going through IF. I'm relatively new to MKE and feel 'lost' in this whole process.
Thank you for reading,
Danielle

Me & Hubby are registered to go, but I have a little one who has that head cold going around.. not sure If I should burden a babysitter with the runny nose and stuff... But I do hope to make it... My Ob/gyn thought that he might be talking about labs test numbers and stuff.. He suggested I take a copy of mine so I can conpare them... (chol, tsh, bloodsugars etc.)
I hope it to be informative.

I just read your post today. A little late for the seminar. I'm pretty new to this site. I'm not ttc. I have 3 children. I'm just looking for better health. Do you know of any support groups in southern Wisc? I'm from Watertown which is only an hour away. I'd also like to find a doctor that's more knowledgable about pcos.

I am still looking too, I saw a Dr. Robb at Froedtert last week he is an RE but it seems like he deals more with the ttc people too, so I suspect he is going to refer me out to someone else... he was not too concerend about the pcos except that it has put my insulin resistance in to a diabetes status, and my hypertention out of control... but again not something he treats unless your ttc....
I'll keep you all posted if I find something more around here..

Hi I'm Suzanne. I was involved with PCOSupport more a few years ago. I live in West Bend. I have two boys in high school now. Have had problems since 12, but was confirmed in a way I could understand 5 years ago. I see an excellent Endocrynologist at Advanced Healthcare in Milwaukee, and I see a very good Gynocologist with Advanced Healthcare in Mequon. She is not as knowlegable but familiar and willing to learn and listen to what you have to say.

Hi Wisconsin!
My husband and I live in Oak Creek, but are looking to move to Racine because I work in IL.
I am seeing Dr. Freeman in Racine right now (she is the one who diagnosed me) but if any of you have any other good suggestions, please let me know. We have been ttc to just over a year now - and I was just diagnosed in April.
Any of you ever on Depo Provera?

I love him as an ob/gyn, his clinic is 4 ob/gyn's and the all seem good, but I stick with him. his former associate dx me with pcos 6yrs ago, and right away jumpped with treatment and after she left 4yrs ago I went with Dr Ambro, and he is great too! Oh- and I don't like the racine ob floor seems kind of old. anyway his clinic # is 262-653-5450

mgulya - do you think that it is related, or did you have symptoms prior to being on Depo?

I actually asked my RE about depo today, he said it was in no way related, that I would have ended up with PCOS with or with out depo. I did get period before BC and depo (I was on the pill and then went straight to depo then went on the pill again) but I had long cycles. After I went off of BC all together I only got one period on my own in over a year. My RE didn't explain why that was but he was firm about the fact that they were not related.

How do you feel about that?

I am going to choose to beleive him. Although I will never in the future use depo and advise my friends against it. Something about injecting yourself with extra crap like that just doesn't seem right anymore.

I agree with you - it doesn't seem right anymore. Not only will I never use it, but if at all possible, I am going to try not to use any b/c anymore. Unless of course by OB thinks that is the only way to treat this - after we end up conceiving.
Thanks for your opinions!

I had a grandma that died from ovarian cancer so I will eventually go back on the pill to reduce my risk of ovarian cancer. I have not decided if after I have the 1st one (provided I do..) if I will just let things happen or if I will go on BC for a while. Ideally I would love to have my childen 2-3 years apart but b/c of PCOS I don't want to wait and then end up regreting it.

I agree - I originally wanted to wait until our first child was potty trained before having another one, but now, since I know we are having problems, we have decided to have them as close as possible just to avoid the possibility of not ever conceiving again - although I need to get pregnant for the first time before I should talk.

Hi Christine --
Congrats on all of your successful pregnancies!!! It's good to hear a positive story! :D
Are these seminars for patients only - or for the public? If they are for the public, can you let me know how to get more info? I can't see a specialist until I switch my insurance later this year - so as much info that I can get without seeing someone, the better.
ps -- today is day 18 and my boobs have hurt since day 15. Normally I'm not PMS'ing until at least day 23. So, either my cycle is way early or I finally have succeeded. Throw baby dust my way...

Hi everyone!
I am in the milwaukee area. I am 26 and seriously thinking of trying to get prenant one, because I ain't getting any younger two, I'm scared I won't be able to have any kids or it's gonna take a long time. I'm not married but engaged. I have been with him for over 6 yrs so it's not like I don't know him. I don't want to spend tons of money on the wedding and then not be able to afford a house. Anyone on metformin to get a period instead of birth control so they can become pregnant?
Any advice or comments I would love to hear!
Miranda

Hi fedup --
Well, I would highly suggest having a blast at your wedding before you try to get pregnant. We spent way too much money on our wedding, and couldn't buy a house for a year afterwards because of it, but I would change anything. Our wedding was amazing!
I'm 27 -- we've been married for just over 2 years, and I have been off of birth control for almost 2 1/2 years now. I just for the first time got pregnant -- and miscarried at 7 weeks. That was the hardest thing for me to go through ever.
Because the struggle for us to conceive is so hard on me emotionally, I just want to suggest you enjoy yourself, your wedding, and your house hunting before you try to conceive too hard. You can always just be off of birth control and then if it happens -- great!!!
Also -- regarding the Metformin -- I am on 1500mg/day to regulate my cycles. Prior to the Metformin, I would have a very long or non-exsistant cycle. After I've been on it, my cycle is pretty regulated at 30 days.
Good Luck!

Hi Amanda --
My husband grew up in Grafton, and we lived in that area for several years before moving down to Racine.
How long have you and your husband been trying to conceive? The Metformin will help regulate your cycle, and that is the first step.
What other symptoms of PCOS are you having?

Hi Miranda!
Rick and I have been trying for about 6 months but to no avail. Hes a patient man and is really taking an interest in learning about PCOS as well. I tried for about a year with my ex before I met Rick...
I have so many symptoms I dont even know where to start...I have cysts...lots of them that have been confirmed through ultrasounds. Weight problems...mostly stomach weight and no matter what diets I have tried nothing works...the hair issue...but at least now I know I am not a freak LOL...no period for three years...fatty liver...high blood pressure...I think thats about it...I am sure there are more, just cant think of them...
My fatty liver makes my liver function high. My dr is makin me wait till the function numbers go back down to normal to start my metformin. Unfortually, it just goes higher each time...its very hard to be patient and very annoying...
Miranda

Well, I don't have any good advice about the liver problem, but otherwise I have most of your symptoms as well.
I have tons of cysts -- and when you get to the point of potentially taking fertility medication, watch yourself closely. I tried 3 rounds with Clomid -- and each time I had 6-8cm cysts on my left ovary. A few ruptured, and I had to go into surgery for one of the ruptured cysts.
Good for Rick taking an interest in this! I honestly don't think I could have gotten through the past 2 years without my husband.
Good Luck and keep me posted! :)
