1. When were you diagnosed with PCOS? 22 yrs old (6 months ago)
2. Do u know of any family members with PCOS? no, but we think my maternal grandmother did, because she had similar symptoms but never had an official diagnosis
3.How old when you got your first period? 14
4. Do u have over frequent or less frequent periods? less frequent (didn't have one for 3 years)
5. How long do your periods last? when I'm not on the meds, didn't have one at all, but now with birth control, it lasts 5-7 days
6. Are you overweight? yes
7. Are you diabeitic? i dont' know
8. Do you have excessive hair growth (state which areas) yes, face, nipples, thighs, butt, and lower belly
9. any other symptoms (please state) cystic facial acne, some dark spots, no periods, exessive hair, mood swings, excessive weight gain in my stomach and hip area (very apple shaped)
10. Are you on any medication? Lo-Ovral (birth control)
11.How does pcos make you feel? embarassed about the hair, mood swings alot, weird and sometimes lonely because i don't know anyone with it. However, I'm proud that i can educate others that may think they have it, especially my younger female cousins going through puberty with questions or my college aged friends that have lifelong problems and no answers. Plus it makes me feel closer to my maternal grandmother because she went through similar issues as me, I'm just lucky to have some medical advancements to help me out. She wasn't that lucky, but she had 5 healthy kids and a happy marriage, so there is hope for me :)

Good luck on the report, and if you find anything interesting, please post!!

1. When were you diagnosed with PCOS?
When I was about 13 or 14.
2. Do u know of any family members with PCOS?
No
3.How old when you got your first period?
11 or 12.
4. Do u have over frequent or less frequent periods?
Less frequent
5. How long do your periods last?
2 to 5 days

Yes.
7. Are you diabeitic?

Yes; upper lip, chest, around nipples, lower back
9. any other symptoms (please state)
Elevated insulin, dark skin around neck and under arms, skin tags
10. Are you on any medication?
Spironolactone- For the excess hair growth
11.How does pcos make you feel?
PCOS makes me feel frustrated. Because weight gain is a constant battle, doctors saying I need to lose weight, but I can't no matter what I do. Its also kinda of embarassing at times, with all the extra hair and the dark skin patches and skin tags. I guesse overall I really hate PCOS, it makes me feel so distant from all my friends, with doctors apts. every 3 months, how wierd. I just don't like it at all.

At first I was annoyed that it happened to me, but now I am glad it is me and not my friends. I manage to take each day as it comes and to not get down when times are hard. I admit that sometimes I wish it would just go away but I know it won't so I try and live with it

1. When were you diagnosed with PCOS? IFive months ago, in January (I'm 21)
2. Do u know of any family members with PCOS? Not that I know of, but my mom thinks there may have been some woman with it.
3.How old when you got your first period? 12, but then I didn't have another until a month before I turned 15.
4. Do u have over frequent or less frequent periods? Less frequent - about every 3 months
5. How long do your periods last? A week
6. Are you overweight? Yes
7. Are you diabeitic? No, but it runs in my family.
8. Do you have excessive hair growth (state which areas) Yes: On my face, chest, abdomen, some on the back
9. any other symptoms (please state) Acne, weight carried in the middle and not on the hips (but no pain with periods, so that's nice). The hair also exacerbated a disease called Pilonidal Disease (it's an abcess around the tailbone area that gets infected, and hairs can exacerbate it). It's really hard to lose weight.
10. Are you on any medication? No. I tried BCP but they messed with my emotions too much.
11.Hpe does pcos make you feel? I'm not too worried right now, but I'm really new to this. It's a little hard to accept, and I wonder if I'll be able to have kids and if I'll end up with diabetes. The hair loss as you get older kind of freaks me out too. But most people don't really understand. Thankfully, God's blessed me with some great friends who'll listen, even if they don't really understand or care to hear. They're a great support. As far as the syndrome, I'm curious, because of it's link to diabetes. There're a lot of auto-immune diseases in my family (rheumatoid arthritis, Type I diabetes, lupus, psoriasis) and I wonder if they're linked - but then I'm hoping to go to medical school, so I'm interested.

Hope this helps and good luck!

1. When were you diagnosed with PCOS? 15 (two xmases ago, I'm almost 17 now)
2. Do u know of any family members with PCOS? None that have been diagnosed, or that I know off
3.How old when you got your first period? 12
4. Do u have over frequent or less frequent periods? naturally...over frequent, there'd be a week or two in between, but I'm on the pill now :)
5. How long do your periods last? Naturally - a couple months
6. Are you overweight? Yes, but surprisingly, not a lot - I'm very tall
7. Are you diabeitic? Not that I know of, but grandfather is
8. Do you have excessive hair growth (state which areas) some on stomach/chest
9. any other symptoms (please state) Depression I guess?/mood swings, uh...sometimes get a pain in ovary area - not sure if connected, can't think of any others
10. Are you on any medication? I'm on the pill.
11.How does pcos make you feel? When I think about it quite a bit, it can get me down. But I don't think I'm that bad a sufferer so tend to push it out of my mind. It doesn't affect me too much - it was really just the periods that really affected me. At the moment I don't think about it very much, so I don't let it get me down or affect me emotionally.
