Hi ladies,
I've been on met for the past 6 months (1500mg). My main concern regarding PCOS is hair loss. To be quite honest i haven't seen any improvement in my hair. The last visit I had with my Endo, I asked him if he could subscribe a vitamin supplement that could help my hair hopefully grow back one day. He said that Met helps alot and that if i wanted i could take a multi vitamin supplement that i could buy over the counter in any pharmacy. Though he didn't specify any particular brand. So seeing he was so reluctant about it, i didn't push it any further and didn't buy any vitamins at all. I then happened to go to a Dermatologist that knew about my problem and told me to buy these vitamins called Pantogar.
Has anyone ever tried them and had any success? Apparantly they are vitamins that are aimed particularly for hairloss.
I've searched several posts in these boards but never came across these vitamins. Thanks for any help

I have never heard of them, but I just wanted you to be aware that Met can also cause a B-vitamin deficience, that that deficiency can cause hairloss.
Therefore, if you are still experiencing hairloss on Met, you might want to add a good USP Approved B-complex vitamin.

I also suffer from hair loss and have high hopes that Met will help with it. I haven't heard of that particular vitamin but would be interested in learning more about it.

Is that pantogar (sp?) prescription or can you get it over the counter? My hairline thins out when I'm not on Glucophage. It looks good now, but it's still not as thick as the back and top of my hair. None of the other women in my family seem to have hair that's thin in the front and sides like mine (under the age of 65). I'm the only one (on mom's side of the family) who has PCOS.
When I was pregnant, I took a prenatal vitamin and my hair and nails grews out beautifully while on it. After I gave birth, I started taking GNC's Women's Ultra Mega. It kept up a similar level of growth (almost but not quite), but I just wish I had the thickness in the front and sides like when I was younger.

I've never heard of them either, but would love some feedback about what others have done for their hair loss. I just went to the dermatologist today and they recommended Rogaine and Biotin supplements. I'm also wondering what the recommended dosage of B-12 might be for someone taking Met who could possibly have a deficiency. My hair loss increased when I started and I'm only taking 500mg.

Does anyone know about melatonin for hair loss. it seems like it may be a possibility it would help seasonal hair loss. I know there are studies done on animals and they got hair growth using it. I here there is also a topical melatonin. I'm very much wondering if any of you ladies know anything about this? Thanks in advance

I also have hair loss due to PCOS. I have been looking for anything to help. I have seen here that a lot of ladies use spiro. I am willing to try just about anything. But, I've researched the side effects of it and I have to admit I am scared to take it. I do not like taking prescription medications. My dr. told me that my hair would quit falling out and grow back once I was on the met. On my third visit she said it would take 6 mo to a year to work. She didn't give me a straight answer about my hair when I asked. I just wish it would quit falling out and I would love it if I could get at least enough to grow back to cover up my scalp. I am scared it is too late to do something about it. I started noticing hair loss mid March 2009. I got diagnosed with PCOS in Dec. 2009. I have noticed a very slight change since being on Met. No new growth but slightly less fall. I went to get what little hair I have left trimmed on Friday. My hair stylist said that she didn't see any new growth, but she said she couldn't tell it had gotten thinner since last time I had it trimmed. She said she had been able to tell before that it was getting thinner each time she trimmed it. I hope this is a good sign. I would love to hear from anyone with any advice or just to tell me their experience with hair loss. Thanks in advance for any replies.
