I have been on Metformin for about two weeks (1500 mg not XR)--various stomach upset ranging from constipation to diarrhea. Seemed to be going o.k. and slowly losing weight (6 pounds) until my weight loss stopped dead in its tracks. I guess I started eating a bit less to compensate and suddenly my blood sugar dropped off a cliff no matter what I was eating. So I didn't take my evening and afternoon pills yesterday and I tried to up protein, but still feeling horrible and exhausted.

To keep from feeling so bad on MEt I have to eat tons and I am afraid that I won't lose any more weight or my doctor will pull me off the meds if low blood sugar continues. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Talk to your doc about taking a smaller dose until your body adjusts. Usually you start at 500 mg/day in the am for 2 weeks, then up it to 500 mg in the am and in the pm for 2 more weeks, then up again. That should help with the digestive issues.

Don't worry about weight loss until you get used to the Met. You are in this for the long haul. Take a few weeks or even a few months to get used to Met.
