hi
im new here, hoping to get some advice.
im 15 and was diagnosed with PCOS last year i think.
im a size 18 -20 and weigh 17 stone. im very self concious.
and find it very hard to lose the weight i'd like to. i'd like to get down to a size 14
i exercise as regular as i can from 3 times a week to everyday depending on what im doing. i do alsorts like walking, swimming and aerobics.
i have really exesive hair EVERYWHERE the worst is my back, stomach chest, chin and upper lip.
i have quite strong stomach muscles and quite muscular legs and arms but the fatty bits [inside legs, under arms and stomach] are going nowhere.
also i dont really eat much, i dont have a eating disorder i just often forget to eat. i know that sounds crazy but thats me.
i have tried the south beach diet which worked but had to stop for the cost, are there any diets worth it that dont cost a lot?
any help would be great.
or any fitness videos that work?
cause im just getting sick of being over weight and feeling like nothing is working.
thanks.
kassy

Kassy,

From your description, it sounds like you are Insulin Resistant - which also happens to be the main cause of PCOS.

Insulin Resistance is causing the weight gain/inability to lose weight.

You should see your doctor - ask to be refered to an endocrinologist if you can. You may need Metformin (glucophage) to reduce the IR so that you can lose some weight and get back into balance.

Any low-carb/good-carb diet will help. Focus on eliminating highly processed foods and focus on high-fiber, low-starch veggies and low-fat protein.

Cinnamon (yes, the stuff you bake with!) will also help to reduce the IR. There are instructions in the FAQ's sticky at the top of the board.

Good luck, and know that you are NOT lazy!!! My family thought that was the problem for YEARS - they still do, in fact...

Ah, well... Just know that you are not alone, and it's not your fault!

hi sweetsunshine72
thank you for the advice,
i've never heard of cinnamon being used for that! i will have a try of that!
the doctor wouldnt put me on metaformin cause i wasnt diabetic or somthing...
but the health food store said i should try agnus castus. so im gonna try that. also that soya milk helps raise oestrgen levels, so i've been drinking that.
most of the time doctors think im lazy anyway. lol. but i know im not.

Raising estrogen levels is NOT necessarily a good idea!!!

Most of us have estrogen dominance - where we have too much, and there is evidence that suggests that too much estrogen can make the pancreas over-produce insulin, making IR worse.

The Agnus Castus is known here as Vitex. Some women have done very well on it. Here's some links about it:
