Hey! I was just reading articles on estrogen dominence. The articles assert that estrogen dominence causes PCOS, diabetes, obesity, fibroids, etc. One article suggested using an over the counter natural progesterone cream. I wanted to know what other people here knew about ED and/or natural progestorine cream.

I am thinking about trying it, before trying Mat

First question: was the author of the article selling anything? Such as a natural progesterone cream? If so, I'd do more research before buying in to it.

Couple of reasons here: the article is right (in part); cysters are estrogen dominant. But it's a mistake to say that estrogen is the cause of all of the symptoms of PCOS. If you truly have PCOS (and not just symptoms that *look like* PCOS w/o the substantiating bloodwork for a diagnosis), then estrogen levels will normalize if you take care of the root cause--and that root cause is INSULIN. Estrogen and progesterone levels are controlled by the ovaries, which also produce testosterone in a woman's body. Insulin is the key to all of this; too much insulin throws off the normal cycle that the body would have (read up on LH, FSH, Estrogen, Progesterone levels in cysters), and this causes the hormonal imbalance. Progesterone cream might balance out a portion of the imbalance, but it would NOT do anything for the other symptoms (the weight gain, the facial hair growth or hair loss on top of head, etc.). These are insulin-based imbalances. Treating the estrogen-factor is akin to treating this condition with bcps--might relieve some of the symptoms, but underneath, the condition and destruction rage on.

Additionally, if you're overweight, the fat cells themselves produce estrogen. So it's a fallacy to say that estrogen causes overweight conditions in a person; the excess fat cells produce too much estrogen. Which came first? The chicken or the egg? In this case, it's definitely the latter.

Anyhow, I would suggest doing lots of research on these boards before you do something like this; the sooner you get your insulin levels under control, the better off you'll be, and you may find that a progesterone cream (which most women use to induce a period or aid in fertility) is unnecessary.

Thank you for the info. I am collecting as much info as possible in preparation for fighting my doc (who I want to ditch) on Thursday. He has not even ordered the bloodword yet. Instead I have been on BCP for past 3 months and he told me to "lose weight", like I have not been trying (I run 3 to five days a week and recently started to follow a low carb diet). I had a US confirming persisting presence of cysts. I have a transvag this Thurs and he is supposed to advise on next step, but he is a cutter.

If your doc is definitely "a cutter," then I would absolutely get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Most of us on these boards have dealt with unsympathetic or unhelpful doctors at one time or another; keep looking until you find one you 'click' with, trust, and who will treat you as aggressively as you'd like. If you don't have those three factors going for your relationship with your doc (I'd advise an RE, BTW), you won't see him/her and you won't get the treatment you need. Best to you as you do your research and get the care you need! :)
