View Full Version : What comes after BCPs? Yams?

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. I finally got diagnosed with PCOS and my Dr put me on bcps, I've been on Met for like 4 years now anyway. I got thru 3 weeks on Yaz and had to stop due to seriously weirdo neurological symptoms (arms and legs went numb, had a migraine for 2 weeks) so I waited a week and tried Alesse. Well 3 weeks later and guess what, arms and legs numb and 6 migraines in 9 days so I'm guessing that I may not be a good bcp candidate.

When I had the blood work done my estrogen was as my Dr put it "so low the newborn girl in the next room as more estrogen" and my testosterone was so high that "somewhere some guy in a strong man competition is jealous". So obviously I need some balancing out.

I mean to be blunt I can ignore the goatee, insomnia and sex drive of a teenage rabbit but the damn depression is just too much.

So what the heck comes after bcps or should I push to keep trying a different brand until I get it right? I mean I was awfully cheerful when I wasn't, you know, screaming in a dark room from the headache.

I'm wondering what dose of met you are on? I ask because if you've been on it for 4 years and your hormones are still way out of whack, that doesn't seem right. Are you seeing an endocrinologist or just an ob-gyn? It would seem to me that they should be able to give you something to bring down the testosterone level (I'm not sure, but I think someone may have said dexamethasone can do that... but I'd just generically ask the doc if there wasn't something they could give to specifically target the testosterone...) If your dose is lower than 1500mg, you may need to increase. In any event, if you're with an ob-gyn, I'd ask for a referral to an endocrinologist... they may even be able to find a better bcp for you given your unique hormonal pattern...

I've been on 1000mg (2 500mcg a day) and you know if I take it or if I dont I dont feel any better. Ive had my blood sugar checked and its fine but Ive been wondering if its not doing anything for the PCOS.

Ive got an appt. tomorrow and I think I'll push for an endro. appt. this is getting retarded.

I had symptoms just like that before only on Yasmin.

I wasnt taking it routinely though, I had been bleeding for over 2 months, and very very heavily. So the Dr called me in a pack of Yasmin and instructed me to take 3 when I got them, 2 the next day then 1 the day after that. The bleeding stopped within hours but every time I took it I had those same things... the numbness, headaches, and even extreme weakness.
I will never do that again.
