Has anyone thought about trying the new weight loss medication, Alli?

I have heard of it, my dad starts it this week. I believe it's similar to the old zenical. Basically I think you if you eat unhealthy foods then it sends you to the bathroom. He hasn't been on it to give much more info than that. I anticipate lots of people taking it in the future.

My sister just ordered it. Was about $60 with shipping, for 30 days (I think). She is not overweight, just said wants to lose about 10 lbs. Which is what I would like to do as well. Shes going to let me know how it works and i'll relay it to you. Anyone - Do you think it'd be OK to take with Met? Thats all Id worry about.

I heard that it is FDA approved, which is good. But it gives you the runs like crazy. I really don't know much more about it though.

My manager is taking it. I read in her pamplet that it is not recommended for Diabetics. I'm IR, so I am curious if it would be safe for those of us who have it. It's main side effect is the same thing I went through when I began Met, and I survived that so I'm sure I could handle it.

Hi ladies, just wanted to let you know (concerning alli), I talked to my sis yeterday and she said in the past week she has lost 3 lbs, taking alli. So you can interpret that how you want. Its great to lose 3 lbs in a week but who really knows if it was from the alli? Have a great weekend everyone!

I just saw a doctor on a talk show talking about this pill. He basically said it WILL work however, as soon as you stop taking it the weight will come back. So basically if you are willing to take it forever then it will help you.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a magic weight loss pill that had no side effects and you didn’t gain any weight once you stopped taking it?

I actually helped work on an ad campaign for it, as well as edited a story on it for an industry magazine. Alli is essentially the lower-dose, over-the-counter version of Xenical. It is a weight-loss pill that, when combined with diet and excercise, helps you lose 50% more weight. It is recommended to take Alli three times a day before eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is very important that you maintain a low-fat diet while taking Alli. This is because Alli blocks your intestine from absorbing about 25% of the fat in what you eat. This is why there was a big hoopla about how its gives people the "runs." I find it funny that the company called them "treatment effects," because it sounds nicer than side effects or diarrhea. :D

The good thing about Alli is that it not only helps you lose weight, it actually forces you to make a healthy lifestyle change. You have to admit, you'd rather eat less fat than deal with any "effects" Alli might force upon you if you eat at McDonalds. LOL

If you need to know more about it, talk to your pharmacist or visit the web site. Apparently, you have to be really committed to following the plan that goes along with taking this drug, so I would definitely suggest talking to your doctor or pharmacist before using Alli.

I have taken this for tha past month, and prior to taking it askedmy pharmacist, if it would be OK, they sd it was fine. need to watch your sugars, in case of a sudden drop. also, if you eat high fat foods you WILL be in the bathroom within an hour of eating. it does work, but you do need to watch what you eat.

Just bumping this thread up to see if there are any more people on this board that have been using it.

I got the starter pack today from Costco. My mom also bought the starter pack.

I am quite nervous about it since it *ahem* gives you the runs if you don't eat right. I guess as long as I stick to the "plan" then I won't be running to the restroom.

I want to read up on it...so I won't take it until I am comfortable with knowing what I can...and cannot eat.

2 of my girlfriends are taking it. They can't eat anything fatty or drink beer either one puts them on the toilet for days. One of them has lost about 17lbs last she told since starting it. She's been taking it for about 2 months. The other one just started taking it.

I'm not sure that i would want to pay money for something that makes me poop though.

So far I am doing good. I'm on day 2 and haven't had any side effects. Must mean I am eating right. I am paranoid about the gross side effects, so I am watching everything I eat. I'll keep the updates coming.

I took Alli for a while, a few months actually. With alli I joined the myalli.com forum and you can talk with everyone that is on it. And there are tons of women on there who have pcos as well.
It does keep you in the bathroom a lot with very fatty loose stool, so it is true that you can't eat certain types or to much fat or you will be on the toilet.

As far as side effects that is the only one. It has no energy booster, no jitters or caffiene. The pill is only the fat blocker and it helps your body to not absorb fat. So you get rid of the fat in the toilet.

And not to be gross but you really do lose fat in the toilet, your stool will be greasy and you can see grease in the toilet and need grease remover to get the grease stains out from around the rim.

I personally could not continue to take it because i have no gallbladder. In not having a gallbladder my body already has issues with fat and tends to have the same side effect as the alli does in the bathroom department so taking that was like taking a double dose of the runs.

I did not lose any weight on it though.

They say you will either lose weight or you won't lose weight on alli and I believe that is entirely true.

   I'm so laughing my rear off (If only that were literal) at the last few posts about the "bathroom department". My husband thinks I'm losing it because I can't even read the last post I'm laughing and crying so hard.

I guess that made my mind up about taking alli, though...I really HATE cleaning toilets!

Hmm... I never thought about how it would affect someone w/o a gallbladder (I don't have mine). Yeah, every since the surgery if I eat something really bad... I totally on the toilet within minutes. I guess I should do more research about post-laprocholesectomy. Thanks.

Hmmm, not to get off topic here, but...I'm just curious how many of us have had gallbladders removed, or problems?? I had mine taken out last thanksgiving @ the ripe ol' age of 24. Which is why I too decided against alli. Does anyone know of a possible link between pcos and gallbladder probs?? Weird.

intersting about the gallbladder- I have stones in mine, they do not bother me, but I do think it is impacting other things. Would a bad gallbladder hurt my liver? Anyone know?

My surgeon told me that my liver had scarring on it from my gallbladder not functioning. The gallbladder it so close to the liver they touch. Sorry I don't know more details, medically speaking. hope that helped.
