What is the deal w/ these birth-control pills that only let you have a period every 3 months?(or is it 4) And now there is one that lets your period last 3 days. I have recently been seeing it advertise. It is like "lets give everybody PCOS"! How healthy are these?

As far as I've heard, they're supposed to be safe, but of course PCOS ladies have much different cycle situations than women with healthy cycles. Like most anything, I'm sure it's one of those things that can be a great product for one person and the worst product for someone else. I'm actually going to ask my doctor about the 3 day period pill (Loestrin) on my next visit, because my problem with PCOS is that I bleed TOO much, and far too often. Both on & off pill, I have frequently had two periods, bleeding for half the month total. In hopes of reducing all this bleeding, I took many nurses' advice and recently went back on a new BC pill Yasmin after being off BC for several years, and during these first two packs of pills, not only has the total bleeding time not lessened, but sometimes now I have bleeding scattered across 3 weeks, so I only have one week period free!! I am so tired of this crap, so I am definitely going to discuss with doctor any possibility of shortening my periods, as long as it's safe to do so.
