I just went on Aviane and I've been having some breakthrough bleeding. I've been on 3 other bcp's in the past and never had this problem with any of them. Is this something that will go away as I get used to it, or should I bring it up to my doctor?
I don't know about Aviane in particular (I've never tried it), but I can tell you from experience that with many of the different BCP's I've been on (and I've tried a LOT over the past 17 years), it took me several months of breakthrough bleeding before my body would adjust to them.
If the breakthrough bleeding lasted more than 4 - 6 months, I'd tell my doc that it's not working for me and we'd attempt another brand/combo.
I'd say it's definitely worth bringing up to your doctor, especially since it sounds like a new development. Maybe you could set a timeline whereby if you're still bleeding by a certain date you can call up the doc and immediately receive a new prescription for a new BCP.
Good luck!!

If you are having breakthrough bleeding, I'm guessing Aviane is one of the low estrogen BCPs. Some people have this problem with the pills that contain only 20 mcg of estrogen.
