ok ladies,
i have been reading about everyone's issues with hair loss, i had been fortunate to say that i did not have that problem UNTIL i started taking yasmin. Has anyone else had this happen? I am starting to get a little worried, i mean i cringe when i think about brushing my hair in the mornings. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey bentzkim, i'm in your area!! Maybe I've already pointed that out to you before. lol, i can't keep track!!
Anyways, I don't know about yasmin from personal experience, but I thought from the literature that it was supposed to help this issue, not cause it! How distressing! But, as we know, everyone's bodies are different. I'd for sure talk to your doc, maybe you can try another BC. (incidentally, since we are near each other, who do you see?)
Here's a little bit I found:
http://www.hormonehelpny.com/newsletter/newsletter3.htm There's a link to another article in there. Maybe you can try spiro? I took that for unwanted hair for awhile, but looks like it works for hair loss too since it is for blocking testosterone (i think this is why yasmin is supposed to work too, it is why my doc put me on Yaz). If it is ties to your BC, it sounds hormonal rather than some other cause, but you might get all checked out just incase it might be somethign besides the yasmin. What BC did you take before the yasmin?
I obviously just have more questions than answers, maybe someone on here will be more help than me. Good luck!

there was a post-- i think in the fertility sect.-- a few wks ago regarding hairloss... i asked my doctor for the sake i was there, although i don't have unwanted hairloss... he said that PCOS is partially hormonal problems... and hairloss is caused by hormones being out of whack... when you start Met or BCP or something it starts to regulate your hormones to what they should be (hopefully) this change in hormones causes hairloss, just as with PCOS your hormones can cause excess or decreased hair... so it could be a good sign that your hormones are on their way back to "normal".... if it continues i would def. discuss it with your doctor.... i don't know how much hair you're talking about but my doc said that a person loses something between 100-200 hairs a day naturally... he didn't recommend counting each one, but you know! so maybe that'll help--- !?!?!

Slightly & Bentzkim
just saw slightly's post about being close to you, and I too wonder who you all doctor with in KC area. I used Dr. Rod Lyles in Overland Park to IVF our baby, Cole. I just loved him, and exspecially his nurse, Sandy. We live in Western Ks out by Hays, and traveled all those long miles, sometimes down and back in one day... 6 hours one way. But it worked! and we are so happy. Dr. Lyles is the one who mentioned PCOS first, and had me on met about 6 weeks before we started the procedure .
Just thought I would ask.
Bentzkim: cant really comment about your hairloss, but thought maybe it is just your body adjusting to the hormone change. I would think it would turn around in a week or two. I am also on the yasmin, 2 months now, and I am still plucking the unwanted's. Hope this turns around soon. My hair had become thinner and very flat all the time. Got a shorter cut last week, hoping it will help.
sorry not more help to you.

Hiya Laurie - I go to an endocrinologist: Dr. Mary Griffin at St. Luke's South. She is WONDERFUL! I can't sing her praises enough. After getting the "brush off" or worse, being made to feel like a hypocondriac over the years, I finally jsut called my insurance to find an endo on my plan, called around, got in to her the quickest, turns out her like, specialty or main interest or whatever it is is PCOS! SHe did her graduate studies on it, was offered a job after med school to teach about it somewhere on teh east coast! She spent over an hour with me, explaining things, answering questions, it was amazing.
I was put on Spiro for the unwanted hair by my endo, taken off of it by my gyno when she put me on Yaz because supposedly that has the anti-androgens similar to Spiro. I called my endo and got a message back that going off the spiro was fine, but i too am still plucking unwanteds. I've only been on the yaz for 2 months, so we'll see if it gets better. I hope so! If not i'll be asking if I can go back on the Spiro as I've seen someone around on these boards taking both.

Hi, slightly.... so glad you have found someone. I too have had the brushoff for so many years. I am having good luck so far with my gyn, even though she is 80 miles away. If I should ever need an endo, I will keep your Dr. in mind. I dont see her again till June, but if plucking is still such a problem, I will also ask about the spiro. I have lost 13 pounds since starting the meds, and have to admit my excersing plan is not what it needs to be. I should really work on it more !!!
