Hello fellow Louisianians!! Just wondering who is where and what you're hanging around the boards for these days! I'm here for advice and support for TTC mainly. The people on this board are so knowledgeable!! I'm waiting for my 1st RE appointment and it seems like it will never get here! Good luck to all!! :D

Hello, I am from Deville, LA which is about 10-20 miles from Alexandria,LA. I am here for support and advice for ttc with PCOS. I went to Dr. Storment in Laf.,LA and he is an excellent doctor but my job will not allow me to take the time off I would need to do a OI cycle through him. So right now I am using my obgyn and a endocronologist in Alexandria. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 7/02 and still praying and waiting for a baby. what treatments have you been through so far? Hope everything goes great in your journey to ttc.
yeah! I'm glad you replied! I'm going to see the RE on June 20. I have not had any treatment so far. I have not been officially diagnosed yet. I'm hoping he will do that when I go if possible. I know that my FSH and LH levels are not right, but I think my insulin levels are normal. I was on bcp for the past 11+ years. Stopped them in November, but my periods are not regular (they weren't before the pill either) and at this point I'm not really sure that I'm ovulating. My gyn always said I would probably have to "take a pill to ovulate". I just took her word for it until last summer when I finally asked what pill and she said I would probably need low dose fertility. ?? I have suspected that I had pcos for years due to irregular periods, hair issues, etc. Now I wish I had been dealing with the problem instead of ignoring it. Now we are in TTC mode. Do you have any advice or information about what to expect from the upcoming RE visit?

Tino,
With my first appointment with Dr. Storment he did not do a pelvic exam or anything requiring me to take my clothes off thank goodness. He put me on prenatal vitamins and did alot of bloodwork to check my FSH, LH Androgens, Prolactin and Thyroid levels to see pretty much what he would be dealing with and hed checked my husband's sperm count. He prescribed me Metformin XR 1500 mg/day. He told me that with having PCOS that metformin will help my body to being having close to normal cycles and possibly ovulate. However, I am not currently seeing him b/c my job will not let me off as much as I would need to be for a ovulation induction cycle. Also, Dr. Storment told me that he does have studies from time to time for poeople with PCOS that will offer free medication and other services that are required with a ovulation induction cycle if patients hormones are in the range he requires for these studies. I hope you have great success with him, he is an excellent and very intellegent doctor. Jess

Hey Jess and Tino,
I am on and off the board all of the time. This is definetly the place for support when ttc. I have been trying for almost 2 years with 2 miscarriages. I know it will happen one day but I don't think I would have made it through this without the support of the board.
Brandi,
I didn't realize you had recently had a m/c. I'm so sorry! (((HUGS))) Don't give up hope, you are right, it will happen in time! Do they know what caused your m/c's?

No they don't know why I have had two miscarriages but my doctor is beginning to do test. She took blood on Friday and then she will do the chromosome testing. I hope they find something that they can treat.
