Hi everyone! I'm new and trying to figure all this out. Has anyone tried mixing homeopathic and allopathic (ie. met and Synthroid)? I would rarely get AF then I got on 500mg of met and it was working beautifully until I switched at my Dr. request from Armour Thyroid to Synthroid so that we could control it better when ttc. Anyway, long story short, I saw a homeopath and she blatantly said that she has had success strengthening and straightening out PCO patients with homeopathic wheras the allopathic would treat symptoms for sure but could affect other functions later on (ie. liver). SHe suggested starting homeopathic and then gradually ramping down the met & synthroid if tests were OK. I'm just worried about my thyroid going out of whack and the off-chance that I get pregnant. I've posted on the fertility board too, but wanted to consult the medications board too.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I've heard a lot of good things about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) being able to treat PCOS. I believe it is the difference in outlook.

Alliopathic medicine tends to look at the human body more in terms of a malfunctioning robot (ok... fix this, and you should be perfect!), as opposed to the way that TCM looks at it, more holistically. I believe that this is essential when dealing with a whole-body dis-ease such as PCOS.

Did you also know that one of the ingredients naturopaths use in their herbal concoctions to treat PCOS is Cinnamon? Clinical studies have been done which show that it acts similarly to Met, but doesn't seem to have the same side effects. :D

Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks for your response! I had actually started using a long time ago cinnamon in my tea seasonings just because I liked the taste, but I've now started using sticks instead of the powder. We'll see what happens, I'm hoping!

I saw a homeopathic Dr. and am thinking about going that route because she said that we need to work on strengthening your own body instead of fixing symptoms and supplementing. SHe was fairly convincing and sounded quite knowledgeable on both the english medicine and the homeopathic regarding pcos. I guess I have an underlying fear of everything shutting down one by one...first the reproductive system... then my thyroid...then....

I'm ttc right now and we'll give that a go for a bit, but if no go, then I'm going to start the regimen and put off ttc. I don't want to ttc on homeopathic until I know my thyroid is OK because of the brain defects in early pregnancy.
