Anyone else in SC? Any good docs around the Columbia/Camden area who aren't complete idiots when it comes to PCOS/IR?

Hi! I'm in Greenville. Don't know any docs in Columbia, but have a wonderful Dr. in Greenville at the Greenville Hospital System's Center for Women's Medicine.

Hello!
Just wondering if anyone visiting this site lives near Myrtle Beach? I would love to chat and see if there are any support groups, doctors, etc. in our area. I was diagnosed last November 2004.

Hi!
I just logged in here. I am newly diagnosed in the Summerville area. My Doc apparently knew what he was doing but he is here in Summerville.

Hi guys--

I was diagnosed in January by my OB/GYN here in Summerville. Have been on 750 mg of metformin, but alas still no luck in conceiving. Am thinking of being referred to someone at MUSC.

Are you ovulating since you went on the 750mg Met? If not, you probably need to up your dose. All the studies I've read have the therapeutic dose for PCOS at least 1500mg per day.

Well, I have one of those tricky PCOS diagnoses. My period has always been regular....28 to 30 days and I have been pregnant before but miscarried at 7 weeks. So I think that is why my doasage of Met/Glucophage has not been upped. Either that or my doctor is taking her sweet time in getting me up to that point. Part of my problem is that I am just impatient. I just turned 34. I have this mental block of not being a spring chicken anymore! :D

Well don't let your doc walk all over you. I'm one of the "thin" PCOSers, and a lot of docs probably wouldn't have even give PCOS a thought for me at first.

Who is your Dr. in Greenville? I'm looking for one. Not trying to get pg, just trying to control symptoms & lose weight.

Hi I have been diagnosed with PCOS since @2002. At that time I went on a diet with the help of a nutritionist and lost 45 pounds. I recently moved to Myrtle Beach and saw a new dr. He put me on prometrium for the periods. I didn't do so well on it. I got dizzy and nearly fainted at work. Now I am back on proverra every other month.. What is Metform? I have never been on that. It has either been progesterone or BCP. I have all the symptoms..Non existent period... sudden weight gain. (which I am now on a diet again to lose about 15 pounds) facial hair had all the blood tests with high androsene testoserone in hi normal limts etc... Anyone in the MB area I would appreciate the name of a dr. The doc I saw was good but I didn't feel that he took me very seriously

Hi! I am in Laurens. Just found out I had PCOS last week. :x Turns out my Ob/Gyn knew it for years he just didn't tell me there was a name for it or that I may experience other symptoms besides missed periods and infertility. :? I wasn't trying to get pregnant so wasn't concerned so much with ovulating. I was just grateful for free and natural birth control. I never guessed that all my little problems, (hair loss, hair growth where it wasn't wanted, acne, weight gain...ect....) could all be tied to my Gyn. problems.
Anyway, I am now looking for a new doctor. I have an appointment with my GP this week and will speak to her about PCOS. I have confidence in her and am hoping she will be able to treat me but it would be nice to have other options if I need them. Greenville itsn't that far so if anyone can give me some names I would trully appreciate it.
Thanks!!
