I've got my first endocrinologist appointment on Monday. I'm starting to get nervous for some reason. I'm afraid I'll forget all the questions I've been thinking of and waste the whole appointment. Does anyone feel like sharing their experiences seeing a specialist for the first time and what all was discussed? I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you may have :)

I haven't seen an endo, but when I go to see my obgyn, I have written down my questions so I don't forget them and also make notes when he's responding so I can remember what he said later. Sometimes it's so intimidating or it all makes sense when you're there, but you doesn't after you've left. Taking notes is the only way I can ever remember things!! Plus, do your research so that when he is talking about some of the things related to PCOS, you have an idea what he's talking about and it's not all greek! Good Luck!!

Hi rnjess - Sounds like you are set with your list and all, but you asked about other's experiences, so I'll share mine.

First, I went to an endo after my gyno did a whopping 3 bloodtests and told me i was fine. I knew I wasn't, and so called my insurance, found an endo and made an appointment. I felt a little guilty going against my gyno, but oh well. Oh, and I'd been off my BC for a month and a half before my gyno blood draw, and so I stayed off it till my endo appointment so she could draw also.

So, I got there and she sat down and we talked all about my "symptoms" and history, mine and my family, and then she did a short physical exam, just checking to rule out other things like cushings, and then she sat down again and gave me a big talk on PCOS and treating it and all that stuff, I was in teh room with her for an hour!!! Needless to say, that is the most attention my PCOS inquiries have ever had from a medical professional!! I was so used to the brush-off and being made to feel like a hypocondriac for all of my "complaints" that I practically fell in love with the woman. It helped that she focuses her research and practice on PCOS!! She was so nice and so knowledgeable and so understanding and everything. So she dx'ed me, gave me scripts, talked about taking the meds and then we were talking about my BC method and i mentioned i was off of it for about 2.5 months and she was thrilled to hear we could do blood draws without the BC affecting the results. So I did that before I left.

All in all it was probably the best doc appointment I've ever had and it was such a relief to talk to someone who knew about PCOS and understood it and knew more about treating it than just putting me on BC. It was great.

I wish you the best!!!! Let us know how it goes!!!!!!
