Do you have a free womens clinic in your area? start by checking the phone book. there are alot of clinics that charge depending on income..that may be helpful. talk to your pharmacist also..they see it all, every day, but dont change anything on anything but a docs advice! hope this helps!

You could also just tell her it's insanely expensive and ask for something else, preferably a generic drug. Right now, it seems Yasmin is the only one with drospirenone, so if she specifically wants you on that, you're stuck with it. But most prescribers will gladly give one of the tons of other birth control pills as an alternative.
I'm paying $45 a month also for Yasmin, but that is because I believe my insurance decided that it didn't need to cover bcp. Also, not all insurance companies will cover 3 months at a time. Mine has never, and when I was on seasonale it was a big pain because I would have to pay for it all myself since it was 3 months worth of bcp at a time. I personally think it is ridiculous but I have no choice but to go along with it.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I did decide to pay the 45 dollars and try it for a month at least and see how it works for me. Then I was told to go to Planned Parenthood with my perscription and just try getting it there. So we'll see...
Thanks again-

I forgot to ask....is it okay to be taking metformin along with the yasmin?? I'm on 1000 mg of metformin a day (one in the morning and one at night). Or should I just take the yasmin in the morning and one metformin at night?! Okay...thanks again! :)

I had a few thought when I saw this post:
Sarah do you have insurance? If you don't sometimes the drug company's themselves have a program to provide the drugs. In that case you would contact the drug co directly. Also ask your dr. about samples. I've been on Estrostep for a few yrs now and have only had to get a script filled once or twice b/c they have given me so many samples. It is covered on my plan but is not a preferred plan which makes it @$40/ mo.
Lots of drs. get tons of meds from drug cos and are great about giving them to patients. Some will say they don't have them but to me thats a sign that they may not be the most helpful. I also use mail order, which is not a choice on my ins plan but that makes my medicines much more affordable.
AKM-My bc wasn't covered on my ins plan either. But I contacted my ins co and found out that my doc could fill out a "Medical Necessity" form in order to get my bc covered. Maybe you could ask @that.

Sara... since my post above my doctor has put me on met and Yasmin. I went to fill them and the met cost me 6.00 and the Yasmin was $25. I was told the reason is because my insurance will only let them fill one month at a time and it is a brand name prescription. My brand name prescription cost is $25. I was told that if I do mail order I could get three months for the price of 2. I'm sure it is fine to take both together, as my doctor just prescribed the same.
This is my first time taking Yasmin. Have others had good experiences with it? I usually don't react well to b/c so hoping this one will be okay. Oh, my doctor did also have a sample pack she gave me of the Yasmin. She really wanted to make sure I was going to be on b/c with the met, because she doesn't want me getting pregnant until after I lose the weight.
Last night I took my first met and i can say that today at the gym my heart rate was up higher, I woke up thirsty and have been thirsty all day. So far no stomache cramping/ or gi problems. I did however need to take a nap, but that could have been from getting up earlier and doing cardio, then taking a cardio kick boxing class, i was beat!
Hi! I did take Yasmin for about 6 months last year and another 3 months this year as contraceptives and as a regulator of my cycle. But I was later put to met (for 3 months) to lose weight and regulate my cycle.
My experiece with Yasmin is that it regulated the arrival of my AF (28-29 days cycle) and some said I lost weight (which I later gained back after off the pill). Unlike the first pack I tried, Meliane, I didn't experience any untoward side effects - back ache, tender breasts or any cravings for carbo-loading and sweets. However, like all b/c, we have to be vigilant of the possible serious side effect like deep vein thrombosis.
I hope you lsoe weight with the combination of met and Yasmin :) My ob gyne gave me met because the after effects of pill wasn't doing what it is supposed to do to my cycle. Yes, I had regular cycles while in the pill but my cycles will go awry five or six months after I get off the pill. Usually, she said, the combination of Yamin and met are given to patients to make sure that the pcos are under control and that the cycles will come on time.
I am off met now after 3 months because my cycles are coming on time and the abdominal pain I experience before my AF comes (due to my pcos acting up) is almost gone. And I had to really beg my ob if it is alright to stop because the side effects of met (bloating, gas, diarrhea) did not subside with me. My ob did not want to put me back on Yasmin since my AF is within the normal cycle (28-35 day cycle) and she had one staff who had deep vein thrombosis from using another brand of b/c. She was afraid that I might react differently if placed too long in the pill.
But I still need to lose the weight like you before TTC said my ob gyne so that I can have a healthy pregnancy weight. I'm trying to make time for exercise and to regulate my food intake (but I just loooove chocolates!!!). Good luck to us!!! :)

Hi girls!
I'd like to thank all of you for the advice. Well it's been a month now that I'm on yasmin. Still costs me 45 bucks but whatever...I'm just gonna live with it I guess. It has helped me to lose weight though which is nice. Question though...for one, when you guys take met with it, do you take them both together or just in the same day? and then two...at what point is it okay to not use another barrier method during s-e-x?
thanks!

hello, i'm new to the list and have been diagnosed with PSOS last year. i came across the insulite system and was able to purchase the 6 month supply. (i'm in my 3rd month) in the first few weeks i noticed a change in energy levels and the craving of carbs. my energy hadnt been so good, feeling tired all the time and now i found i do have more energy. even not having to nap every day. which is rare :o) as for carbs, i still eat them but not as much. for me, this system has been really good. its a lot of pills, but you get used to it. :o) as for weight loss, i have lost a few inches and my clothes are fitting better. im sure with increase in excercise it will be a lot more. oh and before i forget, if you try it (they recommend) 6 months .. if it doesnt help you, you get a full refund. i emailed them and got a reply and it doesnt matter if its 1 month or 6, if it doesnt work for you they will refund your money. :o)

i was wondering, i stopped taking yasmin due to having to pay 47 dollars per box (for some reason my ins. wont cover this prescription anymore). i was wondering, if you stop taking it and then start again, will i get as nauseas as i did before? i dont know if anyone got that really bad, but i did for a full 3 months. thanks so much.
