I've been on 500 mg of Metformin for a week, and have just moved up to 500 mg twice a day. I have been so tired...no energy, moody, I want to sleep all the time. It feels like when I had Mono in high school. Does this go away? Any advice or encouragement would be SO appreciated : ) I'd like to give it a fair shot, but want to make sure that the fatigue is normal. Thanks!

hello-
to answer your question...yes, eventually the fatigue and moodiness does go away. it does take some time of being on the medication for your body to get used to all the changes. just stick it out and you'll be fine. i remember just going on metformin my freshman year of college. all i wanted to do was sleep and rest. it took soo much outta me. i never studied or anything b/c i couldn't focus. but then again my doc. didn't know what she was doing and just threw me on 1500 mg of metformin right away and never told me to work my way up so that probably was a huge contributer to my fatigue. hope this helps some!

Thanks a lot...that gives me some reassurance. Did you lose any weight using it by any chance? That would be a plus! : )

You are mighty welcome! and yes...I lost quite a bit of weight on the metformin. I've lost 30 lbs so far. Granted I've been on it for about 3 years but the first year is when I lost all the weight. And now it's just keeping me at a steady weight. But then again that's my fault for not doing much about it. Hope this helps!

Ive noticed with the fatigue that comes with the met, eating something will a small amount of sugar will offset it. I bough the fudgepops that dont have any added sugar (7 net carbs, 2 g sugar) And I eat one after i take my pill. Hope this helps!

I was very exhausted with 1000 mg a day and even more so with 1500 mg a day. My nurse told me to increase my protein. The met was making my blood sugar levels too low. So, now I eat peanut butter toast for breakfast, almonds for snacks, and cheese with almost every meal. It has helped tremendously! Good luck!
