I have read lots of post where women after mc during their next pg take baby aspirin. Lots of them have the clotting disorder which requires this. But some I couldn't make that same distinction. I asked my ob about this and he told me it is VERY RARE , but with all of the ttc /pg women on this site it seems very common. I just wondered if it could hurt anything by taking it?

Hi Ladies- I have to take baby asprin for my clotting disorder. I asked my RE how common it is and he says it's very common. That's the first thing they test for when you have recurrent m/c's. The type of mutation you have is what determins the course of action. For me, when I get my BFP I will have to keep taking the baby asprin and my RE is going to do additional blood work to see if I need to take daily injections of Lovenox (low molecular Heprin). There are probably a lot of women out there with it but don't know it until they have recurrent m/c's. Hope this helps.

My doctor says it is not common but not as uncommon as you would think either. I go straight to heparin because baby asprin is not enough to prevent miscarriage for me. I take on regular dose asprin a day until I get a bfp and then I start heparin at that point. My doctor said taking the baby asprin wouldn't hurt but your doctor does need to know that you are taking it.

Due to very high hard to control blood pressure I have been taking taking baby asprin for @3 yrs and during my 3rd pregnacy I ask if I should stop and they said no... maybe its because I was taking it for a diffrent reason, not related to clotting.. i took it during my pregnancy when I'd remember to.

Nanners - I would definitely look into this more. My doctor asked me if I wanted to take the test that would look for the clotting mutation. At the time, insurance didn't cover it and it was like $500. I hadn't even gotten a BFP yet, so I didn't want to spend the money on it quite yet. Once I got my BFP, my doctor told me that they can do the test now, but it might be inconclusive. But then he told me that if I didn't want to do the test, they can just put me on 1 baby aspirin a day and that shoud take care of any problems I might have. He is an RE and when I went to my OBGYN, he seemed to be completely fine with that. It sounded like it was a pretty normal thing for people to be on while pregnant. My OBGYN has me continuing to take it until like 32 or 34 weeks...

I hope this helps a little...

I have been thinking about you over the last few weeks and hope you are finding this site supportive for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My Peri had the same attitude as Sarah's it is not very common but not uncommon either. I was told if my tests came back inconclusive that I could still take aspirin because it wont hurt. As it is now I take aspirin all the time and at trigger I start the Heparin. I was diagnosed with Antiphosolipid syndrome.....the last clotting test I was tested for....the other 2 Drs had not order this test but my new RE did. I am thankful for that!

I suspect this might have been my issue. Long story short, I had b/w done when I was a week pg (but we didn't know) and a basic thyroid test came in high... high in the range for a pregnant person. That sends up major red flags to me. I did research online and it looks like that tests is an indicator of Hashimoto's Disease which is the blood clotting disorder.

From what I read, if you have this, you'll just continue to have m/c after m/c until it's dx. So, I'm pushing my doc to give me the full battery of thyroid testing. And, I might still insist she give me the drug to treat this. I read that it doesn't hurt to take it, but can hurt if you need it and don't take it (similar to progesterone).

My best friend had 2 m/c due to Hashimoto's and aspirin was not enough to help her sustain pregnancy. Apparently, the further along in pregnancy she got, her thyroid levels would continue to rise and only increasing the dosage of the drug helped counter the clotting.

The doc sent my tissue from the D&C for genetic testing. I wonder if they can dx you w/ a clotting disorder from that testing... I'm thinking no.

I had two miscarriages before I knew I had factor v leiden. I began taking baby aspirin after 2nd m/c and now that I'm pregnant I am taking baby aspirin plus daily injections of heparin. So, I would be tested first for clotting issues before beginning the aspirin on your own. Get your dr's opinion.

I am just worrying about everything. If in the unfortunate case mc occurs again then I will definitely push the testing with him. thanks for the feedback!
