Congrats to those who have made it through the 1st trimester, found out what you're having (or keeping it a surprise!), or moving on to the 3rd trimester!!

I had a bad night last night and cried myself to sleep, but I'm feeling better this morning. From everything I've read they say if you feel like crying you should, so I didn't feel too bad.

Now to the fun part. My stomach has been slowing rounding out this past week and feels bigger every morning I feel it when laying in bed. Right now sitting here, I was looking at it, and thought the left sure looks like it is sticking out more than the right, so I started poking it. The left is so much harder than the right! This only leaves me to believe that the baby is currently hanging out on the left side, I just thought that was so awesome.

Nothing else baby related to report. I wish I could hire someone to come in and clean and organize the house, I'm terrible at it and hate doing it. I've been putting it off since my husband left, maybe I'll get to it today...

so, my pregnancy brain is going haywire. i JUST realized that i posted my update on the 1st trimester thread yesterday instead of posting here. lol
here it is....

can't believe it's july (in a few hrs)! just announced the pregnancy on facebook. i had an OB appt today and thought i was having an u/s (although i wasn't sure why since i just had an NTS two weeks ago), but they said there was a mix-up with the scheduling and i indeed did not have an u/s. but we did get to hear the babies heartbeats--159 and 152. yay! we get to find out the sexes in 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!! sooooo excited!!!

i wonder if it scares the babies when i sneeze? lol
i totally want to watch Look Who's Talking this weekend!!!! so realistic, i know. haha
Haha, I've wondered that myself. I probably sneeze 50 times a day. For some reason my allergies have been really bad lately. I don't know if there is just a lot of stuff outside or if it's just because I haven't cleaned house in a while to get the cat dander cleaned up. I may have to do a thorough cleaning just so I can breathe easy again!

Tiffany - I wish I could have someone come in and do mine to. I am not good at organizing. Glad you are feeling better today!

prasies - Glad you had a good appt. Wish they would have went ahead and done the ultrasound since they had it scheduled but still glad the heartbeats were good!

afm - Just hanging around. Can not believe in a little over 2 weeks I will be in the third trimester! It has gone so fast! So ready to get to meet her!

Hi everyone!

Praises - so excited you get to learn the sexes in 4 weeks! I think I have about 5 weeks to go before we learn the sex of our little one.

Tiffany - sorry you had a rough night. Can't wait until I start to feel the baby move! I just can't imagine how amazing that must feel!

Jamie - time is flying by! Congrats on your upcoming graduation to the third trimester!

AFM: I'm including the ultrasound picture I got last week. All is well as far as I know. I think (AND HOPE AND PRAY) the m/s is easing up a bit. Though, I've experienced heartburn a couple of times recently. That was a first for me! So, I'm trying to tone down my preferred spicy diet. Oh, and I think I read something about sore hips in the June postings. I get that too - especially when I first wake up in the morning.

tiffany-just got my house cleaned yesterday, i hate it too and it's seems so much worse while pregnant. that is awesome you could tell where the baby was, are you feeling more movement now?

praises-sounds like they are doing great! finding out the sex was so much fun, that is exciting.

i'm just hanging around too. thinking about going shopping for maternity shirts, my shirts are starting to get a little short in the front. i've held off as long as i can, time to spend the money! hope everyone has a great weekend!

jth-aww how cute! i have heartburn all the time no matter what i eat! it's horrible. i have hip pain too, it's bad at night while laying on my side. it keeps me up at night sometimes.

I'm not feeling much more movement than before. I don't feel it every day and when I do, it is very brief and questionable that it isn't gas :) I've been slightly nauseous the past couple of days, I don't know what to think of that. I have been telling myself that my stomach must just be feeling a little off and hopefully it isn't m/s coming back or anything! Today I have a somewhat relaxing day planned. I'm going to work on school for a couple of hours. Then I'm going to make some rice krispie bars(my husband doesn't like them, so I finally have my chance!). Then I'm going to play some video games tonight. I plan on doing schoolwork through the weekend, I know it is a holiday weekend, but I don't have anything planned and I don't have friends and family out here and I am going home for a whole week starting on the 6th, so I figure working isn't so bad :) It's going to be a hot weekend, upper 90's and high humidity, yuck! I am really excited about going home to visit family, I can't wait to show them my little bump :)

Here is a slight selfish part of me. My brother works for the state of MN. The state of MN went on gov't shutdown today so he is out of work until they come back, meaning he is not getting paid. Him, his wife, and my niece were going to come out and visit in August if the shutdown didn't happen, but now that he is out of work, he will have to use his savings for everyday things. This makes me a little sad and mad that the state of MN couldn't get their **** together. I can't imagine all the people trying to make ends meet and aren't getting paid starting today! Also, this means that all the state parks are closed, which is an activity I was planning on doing with my family during my visit, so boo to that!

On a positive, my husband finally got a phone and a computer in his 10 person office. This means that he can make free calls to me, 15 minutes at a time through some kind of roundabout service and not have to wait an hour or 2 in line! This also means he can chat with me on messenger without have to wait in line for internet. He is incredibly lucky because not many soldiers have this option. He is hoping to get the internet working on his own computer soon so we can start skyping, but it may be a month or 2 before everything gets settled with that. Also, I can't believe that the next time I see him there will be a little baby in the house! He gets 2 week R&R, and he is taking it around when the baby should be here, it's like 2 great things in 1! I get a baby and a husband, and then deployment is almost 1/2 way over! I'm not a religious person, but I just feel so blessed. Now if I could somehow get that nesting thing this weekend, ha! so that the house could get tidied up and cleaned, yeah right. My pleasure this weekend is me getting my eyebrows threaded(they severely need it, it has been over 12 weeks!). I have a coupon for free $10 game play and Dave and Busters. I'm also finally going to get that cheesecake I promised myself when I paid off all of my debt, but was too sick before to get, so Cheesecake Factory it is!

I wonder what's going on with the boards...I posted a reply quite a while ago to Praises last post and it isn't there...oh well I guess.

My minor complaint/sadness for the night that has nothing to do with my husband! This is the 1st year I'm not going to see fireworks for the 4th of July :( I can't believe it took me until year 29 to not see fireworks. I have to work 5-8 on the 4th, and I really don't want to go down to DC to watch them there and there aren't any others close by :( I love fireworks so much, it's just making me bummed. Here's to hoping next year my husband is back in time for the 4th and we can go back to MN and watch them there with the baby!

Alright, totally different question. I don't even know how to phrase this. Does anyone else get weird when they start thinking about bringing their baby to see the inlaws? I will have to do this on my own, which isn't a big deal, even if my husband were there I would still feel weird. I don't even know why I feel weird. It's just a weird thing. I have no problem imagining my family with the baby, it's just his family, like I don't want them touching the baby, weird, I know. Maybe it's some weird motherly thing, I don't know.

Tiffany--the site was down for a little while this afternoon, so your post probably didn't go through. Remember what u said?
Well considering my parents live 2 states away and my in-laws live 15 mins from us, I can't afford to feel weird. Haha. But I like my in-laws, so I feel comfortable with them. I am more concerned about my SIL getting on my nerves...I.can already see her rolling her eyes when I say I'm going to breastfeed twins.

Tiffany -- yay for having your stomach become more defined! I am sure that's nice. I'm still in the "is she getting fat??" stage, even though my stomach is clearly quite large for me at this point, and people who know I'm pregnant think it's rather obvious that I'm pregnant, but I bet strangers have no idea.

Praises -- I'm glad the heartbeats are great! That's exciting to be close to finding out the sexes. We find out on August 15. Do you have any opinions/hopes regarding what you're having? I always think having a boy and girl would be amazing, but I also think having healthy babies would be amazing, so I've learned to change my attitude thanks to PCOS :)

Kate -- Have you bought maternity pants/skirts yet? I'm wondering how long I can hold off, too. The longer the better, I assume. I was at the mall yesterday and our Baby Gap has a maternity section in the back, and I was pleasantly surprised to see reasonable prices (plus everyone is having sales now, so that probably helps).

JTH -- Great u/s pic! Glad things are going well for you.

Jamie -- Congrats on being so close to third tri. Milestones are very exciting!

AFM -- It's 3:30 a.m. over here and I cannot for the life of me sleep. Here's the thing: I can always fall asleep pretty quickly no problem. It's staying asleep that really gets to me. I could really use advice on this one. My belly is not huge yet or anything, but probably part of it is finding a comfortable position. I can really sleep in any position, but I have been trying the side sleeping more, and that's mostly comfortable. But then I just can't stop tossing and turning. I'm hardly ever drinking caffeine (and only in the rare morning), I'm not drinking a lot of water at night (I always get up once to pee), our room is dark and quiet with a fan as our "white noise" machine, I'm sleeping with my arms/legs around a bigger pillow, so I'm not sure what else I can do. Advice appreciated!!

Oh, regarding sneezing, I've noticed that ever since I got pregnant my sneezes have been more intense and I almost always feel it in my stomach. I'm guessing it wakes up the baby...my doctor had me cough during my most recent u/s to get the baby to change positions.

readytogo-yeah i bought a couple pair of maternity jeans a few weeks ago at old navy. they have a really good maternity section, with clothes for each stage of the pregnancy, which i thought was cool. it was a little expensive for me. but they are so comfortable is was worth it. i've been wearing my longer shirts up til now, but my belly is sticking out more and they're getting short so i think it's time to go shopping! i didn't think about baby gap having maternity, i'll have to look there. i'm having trouble sleeping too, i just can't get comfortable. so i'm afraid i have no advice!

Ready--I.wake up several times to pee. Last night at one point I woke up because my hips hurt so bad, so I turned on my back which felt immediately better and i guess i fell asleep. I probably need to get a pillow soon.
We are hoping for a boy and girl...that's what I've always pictured myself having--before the Pcos dx of course. But now that I know its twins and this could be my only pregnancy, that hope is back again pretty strong. there is a good chance since that accounts for 45% of fraternal twins. Before we conceived we prayed for a boy and girl if we did happen to have twins (and that they were healthy), since we knew that was a possibility. I am so in suspense to find out!! I have an aunt and uncle that are twins so I know they would be super excited--well they already are!

Thanks for checking out my little one!

Do you think it alarms the baby when your tummy growls?! If so then I guess I'll have a flighty baby:/ I didn't think about sneezing until Praises brought it up!

I pee at minimum 2x each night. It's a chain reaction. It wakes the dog and then the dog thinks he needs to go out. Since I had issues early on with spotting, DH insists on taking over dog walking duties (sweet, but I do feel kind of bad about it). So, then DH gets up to take the dog out! I guess all this getting up in the night is good practice.

Ready - like you, I fall asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow each night. But, after the first time I get up to pee, I have a really hard time going back to sleep. Sometimes because of discomfort (including intense nausea), but lately I've not been able to turn my mind off.

I worry about things in the wee hours - some silly, some not! I was wide awake the other night when I started thinking about how much I'm going to weigh when all is said and done. I've never seen that number attached to my name! I want to be healthy, but I don't want to blow up like a balloon. As a result, I really want to be careful about how much weight I gain. That was silly, but it kept me up for a while. Then, another night I started fretting over SIDS. I was an at-risk SIDS baby and was hooked up to monitors for quite a while after they almost lost me a few times. I don't have a close relationship with my mom. I wish I did b/c I want to ask her about the details. I plan to keep trying to get her to tell me the details, but i just can't get her to respond to me right now. And, DH lost a brother to SIDS. I lost two cousins as well on my mother's side to SIDS.

Anyway, I usually am good about not fretting over things, but around 1 a.m., my mind just won't calm down! I guess the worry train left the building the moment I conceived. I watch my friends and family members who have kids and you can just see that they are constantly worrying about their offspring. I guess it comes with the territory.

praises1139
07-02-2011, 02:38 PM
jth--don't worry...(although i will too!) there are many ways you can try to prevent SIDS. have you checked out some websites about it? here is a good one: http://www.sidsfamilies.com/index.php?sec=sidsrecommendations
http://www.sidsfamilies.com/index.php?sec=sidsrisks
you want to make sure you put on enough weight so your baby is not underweight.

Praises - thanks for the links. I have read up on it some. My dad called me today and I asked him about how long I was on a monitor. He said from 4-weeks-old to 12 months. So, that makes me feel better - the fact that something can be done so early. I plan on asking for testing as soon as possible. Knowing that technology (in terms of testing and monitors, etc) is probably even better at this point is a comfort. And, of course prayer is a huge comfort. It's just starting to become real to me. We're really going to have a baby! I just want to be prepared.

As far as weight gain - I worked too hard for this baby to not be healthy about weight gain! That's my thing though - I want to be extra careful about being healthy. I think it would be easy to just eat whatever and make excuses about it at this point. So, I want to be diligent about what I put in my mouth and how much I put in my mouth as well as exercise!

Breast pump question - I was all geared up to get a Medela breast pump when I realized that there is another brand that is getting good reviews as well - Ameda. Any experience with either? Would any of you recommend one over the other? I'm looking at the Medela Pump In Style and the Ameda Purely Yours. Thanks!

07-02-2011, 03:51 PM
Jth--I would ask on the mom boards. My friends all used the Medela and said its supposed to be the best. Then I found out we can get a discount on Ameda through DH's work, so i checked the reviews and they seemed pretty good as well. I believe Ameda made the first electric breast pump or something like that. I am planning to rent a hospital breast pump at first since those are obviously the fastest/most effective and that was recommended to me for the twins.

Hi Ladies!!! Long time no see!! I can't make up for all the time I missed, so personals will have to wait.

I'm finally starting to get settled in the new place. Have a friend down this weekend helping DH redo the kitchen, putting in new faucets in the kitchen and master bathroom, rewiring some lights in the kitchen, etc. I love it, but I feel guilty for not being able to help more.

I look like I've eaten one too many pizzas or drank one too many beers right now. People who know me and know I'm pregnant think it's cute, but I can only imagine that people I pass think I should lay off the Krispy Kreme...lol. It's reassuring and yet scary because I've always been fairly slim and athletic, and it's hard to watch yourself get bigger, regardless of the fact that it's for a great cause. Treadmill is set up though, and as soon as things calm down a bit, I'm on it. I also need to get a new scale since I had to pitch our old one. Any suggestions on good digital scales?

Yay Lauren! You are back, I had forgotten where you had gone!

Great news ladies, my husband finally got his internet working on his computer(he had to reboot the whole computer, oh well) and I believe we get to talk on Skype tomorrow, with video hopefully! I'm so glad it worked, he was really down in the dumps when we talked earlier today and I could tell he just wanted to see me and just missed me, which was so sad :'( He told me that he already has the red, painful, itchy feet that he was warned about that everyone gets over there from wearing their boots 16+ hours a day and sharing showers, not happy to hear about that, I hate that he is in pain. I'm going to send him some Tinacin(sp?) through Amazon tonight, can you believe they don't sell it over there for the troops!???

I have been incredibly tired lately and have had a hard time doing anything, it is really frustrating. I have been sleeping decent also, so go figure. I get to see my family in 3 days, I'm so excited! It is even better now that my husband has his own internet, only problem is that it is an hour earlier at my parent's, which means he'll want to talk an hour earlier, so early! On that note, I promised myself I would work on my test for school tonight and clean up the living room, I better get to it, it's already almost 8!

Hello all.

Tiffany - Yay for being able to talk to DH on Skype. My little girl is laying upside down on my left side as well. After you said about your left side being bigger I had a look and realised my stomach does feel harder on that side than the left, so it looks like your baby could be there as well.

Just with the sneezing thing, In pregnancy allergies like hayfever tend to get worse and even some ladies who don't normally get allergies get them..I find i sneeze and get a sniffly nose quite a bit and its not even hayfever season here. (Its winter here in Australia.)
----
On the breast pump topic also, I don't think we can get those brands here in Australia. Well I havn't seen them anyway...I got a Breast Feeding starter Kit from Avant which has a manual breast pump, bottles, nursing pads, newborn teats, i think it has a bottle sterilizer as well and also pacifiers. Thought was a great deal for $12AUD. We have been taking advantage of End of financial year sales lol.

AFM - Since my initial 7kg weight loss in the first trimester I have only put back on 3kg since. My mum seems to think its fine since she never put on any weight with me or my younger sister and we were both healthy weights (Actually I was the heaviest out of all her kids at 7lb 11oz)...She put on heaps of weight with my older sister and ended up being induced because of high blood pressure.

After DTD the other night DH puts his hand on my stomach and apologised to baby for disturbing her...LOL...Thought was cute....Although it probably more likely rocked her to sleep.

As I said earlier in my post, we have been taking advantage of Sales. We have our Cot now and its all set up...Just need to get a change table/bath now and a few minor things and then we are all set.

praises and jth - I just rented a hospital-grade Ameda pump. So far, I like it. I used Ameda in the hospital, so it was something I already knew. Plus, it was $10 less/month to rent compared to the Medela. What I didn't know, was that I could have taken the tubing I used with the Ameda at the hospital. It would have saved me $50 for a new kit. Oh well. Not sure if I will buy a pump -- that will depend on if I go back to work or not.

Thanks EJ! I really wanted the Medela and found it cheaper on amazon.com. I was prepared to spend $250 on a pump because I have no choice in the matter when it comes to going back to work. The Medela is $237 on Amazon. I signed up for flexible spending through my work this year and received a Visa card to use for approved purchases and co-pays (to include a breast pump!). When I tried to use the Visa on Amazon, it would not work. So, I think I'm stuck buying a pump from one of the online places approved by my insurance. It turns out the Ameda is the most popular on the approved sites; however, it costs about $60 more than the Medela. The Ameda is $299. It's a use it or lose it flexible spending account - at least I don't have to worry about losing any funds if I have to overspend on a pump! I'll just miss out on it covering a few co-pays to compensate.

I love the name Eli!! If we have another child one day and it's a boy, we plan on naming him Jackson Eli. If it's a boy this time, we will name him after DH.

So my husband informed me today that he kind of wants to find out what we are having. I really don't, but I also have to think of how he feels. We finally decided that we will have the tech write what it is on a slip of paper and put it in a sealed envelope, that way we have the option to look if we want. I think if we do decide to look, I will put the envelope in a care package so my husband can tell me what we are having. I know my family will be disappointed if we end up finding out and so will I in a way, but sometimes I have to remember that this isn't just my pregnancy.

I was feeling down for a couple of days, but after talking to my husband this morning I've managed to cheer back up. We finally got to Skype a little today, the quality isn't perfect, and the connection is barely there, but come on, he's in Afghanistan, at least we have something.

The baby has been kicking a lot more lately. Yesterday a storm came through with lots of thunder and the baby was really moving around a lot. I wonder if they can sense when we are happy and excited? I love storms, so I wonder if it sensed that. Then, when talking to my husband, it started to move around a lot again, so I wonder if it could feel my happiness?

I think babies in the womb sense our emotions. Keep in mind that if DH knows, he might spill the beans but since he is overseas, that should definitely help!!

Happy 4th!! Went to a block party and a cook out so far this wknd, so today we are just going over to the in-laws to eat. DH and I worked on getting more of our office crap out of the future baby room. It's almost empty!! We had already sold the furniture so mostly its papers left. last fall we had painted the room bright green (Behr's bamboo leaf). Our parents hate it but we don't care, lol. I registered at Target and Babies R Us, so I started comparing prices and finding stuff we need. Most stuff is cheaper at Target. Someone told me she lived by the Itzbeen baby timer and now gifts one at every shower.

Tiffany - just check ahead of time that the u/s technician is allowed to write the baby's sex on a piece of paper. A couple here wanted to do the same thing but the technician refused to write it down - they will only tell you verbally because if they put it in writing then there are fears that parents can come back and complain to (or even go so far as to sue) the hospital if the technician is wrong. Even verbally, they will only give you their "best guess" and will NOT say 100% either way, even if they show you a clearly identifiable bit of anatomy on the screen!

Hi guys, happy 4th!

Tiffany -- that's interesting about wondering what causes your baby to move. I haven't gotten to that stage yet of pregnancy, but it is fun to think about.

Praises -- glad you get flexibility in deciding about your work situation. As a teacher I am definitely taking off from January through the end of August (right before reporting back to work for the next year). My DH and I spent some time playing with financial numbers yesterday, and it looks like we can definitely swing me not working the following year as well (through Sept. 2013), but we're leaving our options open. i think it's important to know what your options are and to be open to possibilities.

Today we just made our first baby purchase. I've been starting with changing tables. We knew we were going to use a dresser with a secured changing pad to it. Then it came down to wanting a dresser made out of real wood rather than composite for sturdiness. So, I looked at a bunch of stores online and also searched through hundreds of craigslist posts. Wound up going with a $40 three-drawer older wooden dresser from craigslist that's in perfect condition, just needs to be refinished. With the summer off, I'm excited to tackle this project (something I've never done before but seems within my DIY skill set :) I'm really pleased with the quality of the piece of how hefty it is. I feel like now I can really start making some plans for the baby!

That is something I'll have to check. I guess if they can't write it down, then I'll just tell them I'll wait. I go to a Navy hospital and so far everyone there has been more than nice, so we shall see.

Praises, if they do write it down and my husband decides he really does want to know, I will send it to him in the mail and have him tell me. I wouldn't go along with just him knowing. I thought it might be a fun way for him to be involved, to be able to tell me what we are having, instead of the other way around.

1 more full day until vacation, YAY!!!!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Hope everyone's having a good weekend thus far.

Tiff - I think our little ones can definitely tell how we're feeling. When I'm excited he moves like crazy, and when I'm tired, or stressed, he seems to move less. I can also feel him move from one side to another. It's so strange sometimes! Have you gotten more energy now? I sure haven't. When does that come?

praises - can't believe your little ones are the size of oranges already - haha! btw, I completely envy your super supportive boss. Since we just moved to a new area, and I got a job, I have to work, which I'm not looking forward to. Being a teacher makes it a little easier, but I'm not looking forward to working. Since I'm due Thanksgiving, I'll miss most of November, all of December (which is only a couple of weeks due to Christmas break), and I'll go back in January. Really not happy about that.

afm - We are still getting settled. got our kitchen cabinets almost completely refinished. Still need to paint it, and work on counter tops, but we're waiting on those for a little bit. Our closet is a mess because it's a weird layout, but that's our project for next weekend. I'm definitely showing now. It's not exactly a baby bump yet, but we're getting closer. But in the 20th week now, so we're almost halfway there!

Tiffany - is your m/s behind you? I thought it was getting better last week for me - but it was rough this past weekend. Had a hard time keeping food down again. I'm just trying to figure out how much longer I might have to go like this. This morning I woke up dry heaving. I definitely thought those days were behind me. It's not the end of the world - I just miss food!

I won't say the m/s is completely behind me, but on the most part it is. I still wake up feeling a little sick if I wake up hungry I've noticed. I still dry heave sometimes also, but it is nothing like it was and I feel like I can tolerate most foods now, which is nice. I also still gag when I brush my teeth and sometimes throw up when brushing my teeth. I was actually going to get my teeth cleaned next week when visiting home(I really like the dentist there), but I decided against it because I'm still afraid I might throw up with them in my mouth for so long, so I will probably for sure get the cleaning done when I go visit home in mid-August, because I thought I read somewhere that it is important to get at least 1 cleaning during pregnancy.

Nothing else to report for me. My stomach feels like it gets bigger every day. When I get up in the morning, I feel it while I'm laying on my back, it is so fun! I think my uterus is just starting to push up to mid-belly button range, and the bump is so hard! I am absolutely loving pregnancy, even though there are some aspects that suck. My husband told me today that when he saw me on skype yesterday, that I'm looking obviously pregnant. I guess we shall see when I take the 20 week picture on Friday :)

Thank goodness the holiday is over, it was seriously bringing me down. At least I'll be having this little one around the next big holiday, and then my parents will be around for a couple weeks in December, and my husband will be home for 2 weeks probably at the end of November/beginning December. Maybe we will celebrate Christmas early?

Now that my husband sort of wants to find out what the baby is, I've been getting a little excited myself. Of course I would love to stay team green, but hopefully we will have at least 1 more and then the next one we can do it my way, marriage is all about compromise, right? Thankfully my husband and I are pretty good about compromise. According to my countdown, we are approximately 5% done with this deployment already, I feel like the percentage sure is building quickly!

Alright, must go shower. I have a lot to do today. I need to clean the kitchen(I hate coming home to a dirty kitchen from vacation), run the vacuum, pack for the week, get all the cat stuff out so he isn't bored out of his mind the week I'm gone since I already feel terrible that I'm leaving him for a week, work on school work, check into my flight, and figure out when I need to leave tomorrow. I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

praises - I'll probably make my decision about work shortly before I'm due to return. My boss is pregnant and due in August, so she'll be on leave. My company's HR department is wacky. So I have no idea who or how I will tell my intentions. I'm not going to worry about it too much yet.

Ok. So, I got my hair cut last week since the hormones have pretty much wreaked havoc on it. It looks much better now, minus the GRAY HAIRS!!! No idea where they came from, but I can't stand them!! I'm too young for that! I asked my hairdresser (a family friend) about what I can do and she said that the non permanent Natural Instincts hair color is acceptable to use during pregnancy because it doesn't have the peroxides in it. I've been debating it since they seem to multiply daily. UGH! Anyone else having this problem??

Also - I need an opinion on names. We have it narrowed down to two: Michael Bryson and Michael James. (We have to name him Michael because it's a family tradition - my husband would be the 7th, but they all have different middle names). I really like both. Bryson is a family name from my family, and Michael James I love because I could call him "MJ". What do you all think?

r6bikerchick
07-06-2011, 11:16 AM
Whenever I hear MJ, I think of Michael Jackson. Depends on whether that is a good association for you or not...it also depends on how it flows with the baby's last name. You don't have to share, but just sound it out. Definitely different because in one case you have a two-syllable middle name and in the other case you have a one-syllable middle name.

DH and I still haven't finalized the name. We're waiting to meet the baby to see what suits. Originally, I thought that whichever name we DIDN'T pick to be the first name would be the middle name, but now I'm not sure that it "flows" and am considering completely different middle names!

lmaguire--i too immediately thought of michael jackson. sorry!! i like both middle names but Bryson is not as common, which i tend to lean towards.i read the same thing too about the newer hair dyes.

afm, not much going on with me. not sure if i updated before the weekend that my best friend and i resolved the fight and we are still friends but we cut way back on our contact because we need our space. we were updating each other on every detail of our lives every day and it was just too much. we are meeting for dinner next week and she still wants to throw my baby shower. so after that fiasco was over, i was able to enjoy my holiday weekend and have been a whole lot less stressed since.
i feel really spoiled because this is my first time going a whole month without hearing the babies' heartbeats and 6wks without an u/s!!! now i know how everyone else feels--it is hard to feel like everything is a-ok even though i don't have any bleeding or anything.

Thanks ladies! We had pretty much already decided on that one, but we like the way Michael James flows. Maybe we could call him by his first and middle name? I think we'll go with Michael Bryson though - it's a good combination of both our families.

He was kicking me like crazy today! Feels kinda like a heartbeat, but once, and more intense than a normal heartbeat. Very cool! DH was actually able to feel it before he left for work yesterday. =)

Had to break down and order some more maternity clothes from Old Navy yesterday. Have one pair of maternity pants, and they are the only things that are comfortable. I borrowed some stuff from a friend, but since she's 5'9" and I'm 5'3", the pants are WAY too long on me. Don't want to hem them since they are hers, so I ordered a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts. Gotta have something to wear! I weighed myself at Target on one of their scales and I look to be up to 128-130, which brings me to about 10 pounds. Not bad for halfway through! Hoping to keep it to 15 more in the next 4 months.

Have an appt with my new OB on Monday. DH is coming with me even though there won't be an u/s because he wants to met her too. I love how involved he is! He really wants to go to every appt and learn as much as he can. =)

Imaguire - I definately like the Michael Bryson better. I think you should choose the one you and DH like the most and feel fits the best.
Not sure about the hair dye thing...I was told to avoid it mainly in the 1st trimester because its the main development stage, but afterwards only if you really have to..Unfortunately pregnancy takes all the goodness out of hair so thats possibly why your suddenly getting greys. I have the odd grey hair as well...My main problem is my hair has gone really dry and brittle..Had to get it cut as well to help with tangles.

AFM - I have officially started a case of leaky nipple aka lactating. HAd my top off the other day while DH gave me a massage, next minute hes carrying on saying "Ewwww thats gross." Im like "whats wrong?" He goes "Your tits leaking". Explains why my breasts have suddenly started aching more and gotten more tender.

Finally grew out my jeans that were way to big for me..Now they are just uncomfortable to do up, so if i do wear them its only at home and undone. Looks like im getting the sewing machine out and making an extension so i can stil wear them. (Much cheaper than buying one)

As for baby. She has officially been nick named Wiggle Monster. DH hasnt felt her yet but im sure before long he will as her kicks are getting stronger everyday. She usually stops moving when he puts his hand on my stomach.

Imaguire - If you felt steady, rhythmic movement, it might be hiccups! My little guy gets them at least once a day now, and has for the past few weeks.

Megzy - I have the opposite problem with my hair: now it's very oily and I have to shampoo it at least once a day. Other than that, it hasn't really changed but some women actually have the texture of their hair change during pregnancy (i.e. straight to curly or vice versa).

Halfway there today!! Start my 21st week tomorrow! Can't believe there's a little more than 4 months left! He'll be here before we know it!! Hope I like the new doctor on Monday. I liked my other one so much, that I'm a little nervous about a new doctor halfway through, but really don't have a choice.

MegzyAngel,my nipples aren't leaking really, but something is going on. I've noticed some kind of yellowish stuff. i read that was normal, but it is kinda gross! anybody else had that?

Land - You always crack me up. I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with supersized nips.

The crusty yellowish stuff is dried colostrum, fyi. It has a different nutritional makeup than breastmilk but it's very beneficial for babies in the beginning before the milk really gets flowing.

YUMMY!!!!!!!!

My sister was putting on her bathing suit in front of me the other day and I saw her boobs- They look like teeny little mosquito bites compared to what the F*ck I've been dealing with here. I mean thank God I have a ginormous belly to hold them up. Wouldn't it be nice if tehy were this size AND perky? They have THE most beautiful "rays" of sunshine stretchmarks around THE BIGGEST nips I've ever laid my eyes on. And seriously..... the middle most tips stick appx. an entire inch out. I feel so Austin Powers.... When the milk arrives, people better watch the hell out & stay on my good side or a shot of milk to the eye they shall get! I ain't skeeered!!!!!

LOL!!! Liz, I haven't laughed that hard in a while!! Thank you for that! And I completely understand! Mine were a good size beforehand, so now they are just ridiculous! And they don't really make many bras in my size (32F or maybe G by the end). In fact, I have yet to find one that fits and is comfortable. And I can't stand them since they are pornstar-esque. (Of course DH loves them...but they are too sore to be touched at all). I've also had the crusty crap. Really grossed me out.

He's really been kicking the last couple of days. Had some ice cream last night and he went crazy after that! So much so that is was difficult to sleep.

Oh, when is everyone having their baby showers? I've got a friend that wants to throw us one Labor Day weekend. Is that too early for a Thanksgiving due date?

LMAO...You ladies crack me up. Laughing so hard here even the dog was looking at me strange.
My leaky nipples are more clear and sticky. Goes white when it dies and goes crusty. My nipples havn't really grown much maybe a little darker and stand erect more. Told DH the other day. "See men arn't the only ones who can get an erection."

Selo - Welcome to the second Trimester :)

Imaguire - We arn't having a baby shower since we have no family or friends here so figured nobody would come. We have had DH's parents give us a hamper thing they made up full of goodies for us and they got the car seat/capsule for us as well. Theres a few others who said they are going to send us things as well. So in a way its a baby shower without the get together.

AFM - Baby has been moving a lot more...I think DH could have felt her last night if she didn't stop moving every time he put his hand on my tummy. Shes having a good kick as i type this out...Unfortunately DH is out doing a motorcycle course so he can go for his licence so misses out again.

lmaguire---wait, 36F????????????? when did you get to that size?? labor day--not too early IMO. well, mine is Sep 24th with EDD Dec 31--wanted to make sure it was early because of the twins but also it was hard to find a date that worked for me and my friend that is throwing it. i realized it really doesn't matter that much as long as you have a decent baby bump to show off and you're well past the first trimester. :)

selo-glad you made it here, welcome!

my nipples are also quite large, and erect. these things could poke somebody's eye out! and you can see them through my bra, i constantly look a little cold. and my bra is getting a little small. i moved up from a D to a DD in first tri, i'm not even sure what comes next! i'm really hoping they don't get too much bigger, dh loves them but i'm afraid they're gonna end up hanging around my knees eventually.

lmaguire-my shower will be in aug when i'm about 27w. i live away from my family, so that was the only time we could work it out. i'm glad it's early, so i won't have to travel later, and i'll have plenty of time to get whatever else i need

Selo - Welcome!!! Hope you're feeling good these days!

praises - it's 32F, and yes, it's obnoxious. I was a 32C/D before. Put on 1 cup in the first trimester - up to 32DD, and I no longer fit in any of those bra cups. Width wise, I'm pretty much the same, but need bigger cups. Oh, and my sports bras no longer fit comfortably. Can't contain these coconuts! Just plain sad. When I take a side profile picture, they rival my baby bump - lol!! Even my mom has made comments about how big they've gotten. Ugh.

Megzy - I didn't realize that you were away from family. Now that we've moved we are only 2 hours away from them. I'm a little worried about an Everybody Loves Raymond issue once DH's brother goes to college in August - lol. Let's hope not!

Kate - thanks for the help. We decided to have our family one that weekend since Labor Day is also my little brother's 16th b-day. Then we can celebrate that too. The friends one, I'm not sure about. Probably later in September - who knows.

shan--that's a great name!

afm, i ended up returning the 34C i had gotten and got two 36C's instead so i'll have some room to grow. i found maternity jeans at Target for $14 on clearance--they're the cropped ones and didn't look that great on the rack but i tried them on and they are cute!! i did some craigslist shopping and got a Snoogle pillow and two Snugli carriers for $50--way cheaper than brand new! and i'm buying someone's My Brest Friend Twins nursing pillow--she is asking $50 or best offer--i think i'll offer $45. i could get it brand new for $58 on Amazon but this lady said she only used it for two weeks and then switched to pumping/bottles. the other things i bought were only used 2-3 times for some reason or another.
re: the nipple talk, i'm worried that i have one not-so-good nipple (inverted maybe?). i guess i'll find out when the lactation consultant helps me out, or maybe they'll talk about it in my breastfeeding class. i heard nipple shields can affect milk supply or something.

p.s. oh so when i scheduled my anatomy scan, the specialist's office said according to my OB, i would be 18wks on June 30th (i thought it was June 25th). well, they are going by my EDD 12/31 but i've been going by the babies' measurements at my 1st trimester ultrasounds (there were 4 of them and the babies were pretty much measuring consistently) even though they told me they were not changing my due date, so my ticker is 5 days ahead. tried to fix it to get it to match up with the official due date but i couldn't figure out how. i'll have to try again. not that anyone cares i'm sure, but it just sucks to go back 5 days. lol it does kinda bother me that it doesn't line up with my due date.

jlbroyes--thanks!! from what i read, the explanation was that since the shields protect the nipple, they decrease stimulation and can therefore decrease supply but i guess that is only in some cases.

Praises - I wouldn't worry too much about your EDD. It is just an estimate, afterall, and especially with twins you are likely to go at least two weeks earlier.

As for inverted or flat nipples, I can't say enough good things about the Avent Niplette. It's like a little suction cup that helps to draw out your nipple and loosen the tissue. You wear it before birth (preferably BEFORE the third tri) to coax out the nipple. You might want to look into it. The best price I found online was at http://www.motheringfromtheheart.com.

praises- It sounds like you got a bunch of great deals! I too think I may have 1 bad nipple. DH tells me I don't. I guess time will tell. I think it's flat. I'm glad you slept well with the new pillow.

Jamie- It sounds like you do have a lot of changes going on. I will say some prayers for you.

Imaguire- I'm glad you like your new OB! It sound like you had a very cool u/s!

AFM- I have an appointment with my OB. I'm hoping to hear the heartbeat this time. It was too soon last time. I'm also hoping that she will tell me when to schedule my anatomy scan. I got some new clothing yesterday. I tried on bras but it seems like I'm really between cup sizes. I have 42 DD's at home that are too tight. The next size up is too big. I figure a few more weeks and I will try again and see if the next size up fits.

So excited...tomorrow we have our u/s scheduled to find out what we are having! We were able to move it up a few days so DH could be here. His work travel was delayed by 10 days and there was no way I wanted him to miss it by 2 days! Our appointment is at 12:50 so I am hoping since we both have a 1/2 day off we can go do some shopping since he will be gone for up to two months.

Selo - Thanks! Hope you get to hear the hb and they get you set up!

Babydreams - Glad they let you move it up so dh could be there! Can't wait to hear what team you are on!

Tiffany - I hope you are doing well! Hope you are enjoying your trip!

afm - 3rd trimester starts today! I can not believe it! I am trying to wear my belly band today that I had gotten with Bean. Hope it helps out.

Team Pink!! She was already a little stinker...first crossed her feet, then decided to sit crisscross apple sauce style!

We already have her name picked out....Alyson Alyn Marie. She is getting two middle names, after both our moms.

So excited, we were looking in Babies R Us for almost 2 hours! Very overwhelming and amazing in the same!!

Yay...Cant wait to find out what team you are all on.

Praises - Lol at the snoogle looking like a giant turd...I have crazy visions in my head now LOL.

Imaguire - Cute ultrasound pic.

Jamie - Congrats on the 3rd Trimester. I can't wait until I can join you as well..Just over 4 weeks to go.

AFM - Managed to get another UTI. So am on antibiotics again. (I had one earlier in the pregnancy) DH was trying to work out why I keep getting them. People are higher risk during pregnancy anyway..But i'm high risk due to recurrent UTI's in the past. YAY.
Been getting some bad heart burn as well which I can't work out what the offending foods are so got some antacid tablets to chew on if i get it again.

LO is still practicing her kung fu, but still wont let DH feel her. She likes to argue with my stomach...My stomach will growl so she will start kicking as if telling it to be quiet or something....So then it will growl again and she will kick more...Its quite funny.

Megzy - Have you tried adding cranberry juice to your diet? Just a glass a day seems to keep UTIs at bay for me.

Babydreams--yay for team pink!

Megzy--I have been having horrible heartburn too. So bad lately that I almost puke! I had it with my other kids, but not this bad. Tums do not help me, but zantac has been helping. Hope the antacids work for you.

Baby has been very active this week. Dh has been able to feel her once, faintly. Seems like by the time he goes to feel she stops and starts as soon as he moves his hand off. I remember that with my last pregnancy too...lol. My one yr old has been sooooo clingy this week, I think he senses his baby time will soon b over. He has been blowing on my belly alot too, like we do to him to make him laugh, I wonder what little Sophia thinks of that in there...lol

Hi all!

Just checking in:)

BabyDreams - congrats on team pink! That's a beautiful name:) I'm sure your moms love that you are naming the baby after them!

Though I really LOVE spicy foods, I've tried to avoid them and the heartburn is barely there now - correlation?! I believe it is for me anyway, I know everyone is different. It probably doesn't matter what some of your eat - you get heartburn regardless and for that I am sorry.

Jamie - congrats on moving on to the third trimester!

afm: I think I had the grand finale of m/s this weekend!!! Woohoo! Sunday, I hugged the toiled all.day.long. It was miserable. However, I've not been green since Monday and I have been able to eat throughout the day yesterday and today! It's AMAZING! I MISSED FOOD A LOT! Oh, and I ordered my breast pump. It should arrive by Saturday. This thing better be amazing considering how much it cost!

Baby dreams, congrats on the little lady! How exciting! We find out in one month at my 20 week u/s.

Jth, that is awesome about being done with m/s. I can only imagine how happy you are. Getting back to normal eating habits is amazing.

Megzy, sorry about the UTI. Has your doc recommended anything you could do to prevent them?

Afm, still feeling fine, although I actually threw up for the first time over the weekend. Of course, I was traveling in California visiting family, so maybe my body was just off. We spent about five days with my family and my niece who just turned two, and I can only hope our baby will be half as sweet and cute as she is. She's such a joy, and I feel so fortunate to get to have one in January. Glad everyone sounds like they're holding up well!

babydreams--yay!!! congrats!!

megzy--sorry about your UTI and heartburn..that is sucky!!!

shan--same to you about the heartburn!!

jth--i hope your m/s is really gone for good

ready--boo to throwing up!

afm, not much to report. i have broken out in two rashes today--one near my shoulder and one near my belly button on the right side. they get really itchy and red but they go away fairly quickly. not sure if it's something i'm eating or what. last time it happened it was after i had tuna so i blamed it on that because my mom said it gave her the same reaction. today i haven't eaten anything that would make me suspicious though, so i guess it's just weird pregnancy stuff.
i found someone on craigslist who is selling her twins nursing pillow for $30!! half the price of amazon! so i'm going to buy it from her instead of the other lady that wanted $50 (i was going to offer $45). both were barely used so the price is the only difference.

Thanks ladies....The doctor recommended Ural which is supposed to flush out the urinary tract...But tastes disgusting...I'm going to try that for a bit to see if that helps...I remember it helped a bit when I was a kid but they mainly had me on antibiotics to prevent them at one stage. I'm hoping that helps if not may try the cranberry juice.

Babydreams - Sorry about your mum. Naming baby after her is a wonderful way to remember her by. I'm sure she would be very happy and proud. Congrats on Team pink also. Love the name. :)

Praises - Sorry about your grandmother not doing well. I hope she hangs in there. My pop has terminal prostate cancer which hes actually not going to bad with...Hes lasted longer than we all thought he would but not sure if he will make it to christmas. I told him he has to be still here to meet baby.

The rash on your stomach could be something to do with your stomach stretching or Possibly from elastic rubbing? I got a bit of a rash the other week from elastic on my track pants rubbing on there. Not sure about the one on your shoulder...I hope your not throwing an allergic reaction to something.

Shan - Yay For DH being able to feel baby moving...DH still hasnt felt our LO yet. We are having the same issues...She stops as soon as he puts his hand there. Or doesnt kick as hard.

jth - Im glad the m/s has gone for you..I hope it doesnt come back.

It was so fun to read the pages and pages of stuff that was going on while I was gone! I'll do a quick update since it is late and I'm tired and I just got home.

Last Thursday I was watching tv while my parents were out, and I felt the baby kicking, which I've been feeling a lot lately, especially on the bladder :) Anyway, I put my hand on my low stomach, pelvic area, and felt it kick! I was so excited I wanted to call my husband, but of course, can't. I have been able to feel it a couple more times after that.

My vacation was good. I guess I really look pregnant now, as I was looking at pictures we took and I am very obviously showing, to the point where strangers aren't afraid to ask when I'm due! Nothing else new with the pregnancy. My anatomy scan is on the 20th, so the tech should hopefully be writing what we are having(though I would still prefer not to know) and I will send it in the mail to my husband, and he will likely tell me about 2-3 weeks after that, which is also around the time of our 3 year wedding anniversary :)

My husband has had a rough couple of days feeling homesick and plain just missing me and the cat. I try my best to make him feel better, but there is only so much I can do. I know he will be fine though and this is just a phase. I do get really emotional and sad when I think about the birth and how he won't be there, but I just try to remind myself that it is okay and hopefully there will be a next time so he can experience it.

I'll write more tomorrow, my brain is so scattered right now, I need sleep!

Rachel--welcome to the second trimester!!

Tiffany--glad u had a nice vacay :)

Afm--feeling super emotional today. I had a nightmare last night, I think I need to stop watching the news. I am naturally a worrier but pregnancy maximizes it. So I think I'll only watch the weather and turn the channel.

MegzyAngel-hope that works for you! i've had problems with UTI's, but i'm able to keep it under control drinking lots of water and cranberry juice.

rachelttc-congrats on moving to 2nd tri!

Tiffany1-glad your vacation was good, and that you are feeling baby move more. that's so fun, to sit and feel the kicks

i had an appt today, measuring perfectly, heart rate was 160. mentioned to my doc that i was experiencing what i thought was braxton hicks contractions, and he said that i was right. but that it is really too early for me to be feeling these, especially 3 times and hour. he checked my cervix and it was closed and firm so he said nothing to worry about, that i am extra sensitive to what's going on in my body, feeling things that most wouldn't. i was told to go to the hospital if i feel more than 5 or 6 in an hour. what do you guys think, anyone else have braxton hicks this early?

Baby- Congratulations on team pink! I love the name! What a great way to honor both grandmothers.

Megzy- I also drink cranberry juice with breakfast every day. My DR told me to avoid a lot of juice because when I was there Tuesday I had sugar in my urine. I read the bottle when I got home and there is 39g sugar in my "no sugar added" cranberry juice. I'm not sure if you are watching your sugar intake or not. AZO does sell cranberry pills that you can take. I got UTIs all the time in college and used to take them. I'm sorry about your Pop.

jth- I'm glad you are feeling better!

Praises- I'm sorry to hear your grandmother isn't doing well.

Rachel- Welcome!

Tiffany- I'm glad your vacation was good. I'm sorry DH is feeling homesick.

shan- I'm sorry you had a nightmare. If the news bothers you then don't watch it. You can always watch/look up the weather online.

AFM- Sorry I haven't been around. My laptop power cord bit the dust again. My DR appointment went well. My OB did find the heartbeat after some looking which made me nervous but once I heard it I felt a lot better. My anatomy scan is 8/16 and I can't wait! I threw up for the first time Tuesday night while making dinner...yuck. I found out I will be moving to a new classroom the first week of August! I'm excited and sad all at the same time.

I randomly threw up this morning. It just feels like my stomach feels iffy, not necessarily m/s. I think it is very much linked with heartburn and it just feels like food doesn't go down properly. Anyway, that is a small problem.

The past couple of days I've felt very lonely, but I just try not to think about it and continue to do what I need to do. Last night the cat would not let me sleep at all, he was all over my face and jumping on me like every 10 minutes. I have a feeling tonight isn't going to be much better, that what I get for leaving him for 7 days, argh. The funny things about feeling lonely, when I was home with my parents, I just felt irritated and wanted to be by myself, go figure, grass is always greener, right? Overall, I am doing fine though, time sometimes feels like it moves so slow. I know it is going to pass very fast though, between baby preparation and then the baby, woah.

Also, I never realized how tiring a long distance relationship is! We have done it before, but never with a year looming over our heads, thank goodness we have a loving solid relationship.

Enough about that stuff though. Still feeling the baby move. I'll be meeting with my doula in about 7 weeks for my 1st meeting after the initial one. I am looking forward to it, she is going to go over things like exercise to make myself more comfortable as the pregnancy continues and other general stuff. I'll have to post a belly picture, it popped very suddenly while I was at home visiting my family.

Oh, I almost forgot the most exciting news! My sister came to visit while I was home and announced her pregnancy! I know she told me they were going to start trying, but I'm so excited. She is only about 7 weeks along, but she wanted to tell family. She doesn't have any fertility problems, but is 34, and this is her 1st. I asked my parents after she left if they minded that she wasn't married, and they said heck no, she's been with the same guy for like 10 years, he isn't going anywhere and it was planned. Also, she is due about 3 months after mine, so we will have cousins close in age! Her even more cool thing about her pregnancy, she is due the same day she was due when my mom was pregnant! My mom had her 5 weeks early and I guess my mom and grandma had all of their children between 3-5 weeks early, so I'm willing to bet I'll go early.

I think I have pinpointed my nausea. It's my sinuses draining. They didn't drain at all while visiting family and I felt pretty good. I think I'll have to start irrigating my nose twice a day to try to beat all the mucus. I'm considering going to watch the last Harry Potter movie tonight. I'm looking forward to finding out how it ends, since I haven't read the books.

megzy--thanks..i hope my grandmother gets to meet these babies..she is so excited about them. but she can't really travel and it's going to be a while before we can do a 6hr car ride with two babies! i hope your pop gets to meet your little one too!!

Hey ladies. Not doing too great today. Feeling pretty terrible. Nauseated, diarrhea, headache (sorry if TMI). Wasn't feeling well after eating homemade taco salad last night, but figured a good night's sleep would help it. No such luck. I've slept most of the day, haven't eaten anything but crackers, and water tastes terrible to me to today. Been able to keep down pink lemonade. DH is bringing me some gatorade and sprite zero when he gets off work. A little worried since I don't want to be dehydrated for little one. I'm supposed to cook tonight, but that's not happening. DH is on his own.
I don't think he's noticed though since he's been kicking and punching up a storm. Woke me up this morning punching me on my left side by my hip, and kicking me on my right side by my hip. Must have been laying transverse. He's getting stronger though because it's noticeable through the skin now. I'd enjoy it more if I didn't feel so yucky. Sorry for the personal vent, I'll do personals later though.

Hi. This is my first post over here. How exciting!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone on the 2nd trimester thread, and to leaving some of the angst of my first trimester behind.

I had a high nuchal fold on the scan so had a CVS last week. Still hobbling a bit and wincing when I sneeze, but the important bit ios that the baby is fine and I am having a little girl on or around 19 January.

It all starts to feel real once you get through the first 13 weeks. I am starting to believe it will really happen and have finally done a Facebook announcement as well as telling work.

Congrats, Lorna! I'm glad you've made it over here, and I hope your second tri will be completely uneventful!

Lauren, sorry you haven't been doing well. I hope you're recovering nicely now, though.

I have started a prenatal yoga class, so I'll be going to that soon. It's only once a week, but it's nice to do a little group exercise and to be surrounded by pregnant women. Everyone looks so beautiful and happy, it's great. I also ordered some prenatal (and postpartum) yoga DVDs my midwife friend recommended. She is a huge proponent of prenatal yoga because she believes it helps with aches and pains of pregnancy, eases labor/improve flexibility, and helps with the recovery period as well. I just need to motivate myself to start doing my DVDs in addition to my once-a-week class. Off to eat breakfast and get ready! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

lorna - congrats on joining us!! I had been keeping an eye on you in the 1st tri boards, and I'm so glad your CVS test went well. Hope you're feeling better.

praises - can't believe you have little avocados now!!

ready - that's great about the prenatal yoga! I really want to try to find a class here, not only for the health benefits, but to meet some people in this area since we still don't really know anyone. Which DVDs did you get? Will you let me know if you'd recommend them? I've been debating ordering some, but didn't know which ones to get.

tiff - glad your trip went well!! can't wait to see your bump!!

debating putting the crib together today to try to figure out how to lay out the room, and possibly picking up the bedding so i can figure out what paint color I want. Also have to go to Frederick's or somewhere to find me some bras that fit. A friend recommended Frederick's so that's where I'm headed first. Hope everyone has a good weekend!!

Lorna--so happy for you...just try to enjoy this 'honeymoon trimester' or whatever they call it. Ha

Call me a sucker. A girly toddler bed set with owls was at Target today for only $7.48! I have been eyeing this set for quite some time, so I couldn't pass it up! I figure if we don't have a girl, I can still use the fitted sheet and the flat sheet, and the crib mattress is the same size as a toddler mattress, so $7.48 for a fitted and flat sheet if nothing else isn't bad. Yeah, I'm a sucker. I already have bedding for the crib, but I figure some of this stuff I might need more than 1 of, also, I can always use the comforter for the floor to play on, right?

I have also pretty much decided to buy a backpack for a diaper bag instead of a diaper bag. My reasoning, I really don't want to be carrying a bag on my shoulder, I just imagine the frustration of trying to carry a child and then the bag on one shoulder, no thanks. Now I just need to figure out where to get a nice backpack that will do that job that doesn't cost a fortune.

Lately I've been having a lot of anxiety about getting everything done in time. I've been really focusing on finishing school, so not much else is getting done right now. I probably won't finish that until sometime in September, which only gives me a little over a month to prepare for baby! Ack! I think I will do a baby registry at Target after we find out what it is at the beginning of August, that might help with some stuff. I have considered actually scheduling my day so I can get everything done, I think a schedule might help with the situation. On a happy note, my husband finally got his own computer in his office which has much faster internet than what he is paying for, the only downside, he can't download anything on it, so no Skype, BUT gmail also has a Skype like function where nothing needs to be downloaded and that works great!

Better eat some supper so I can get started in on that schoolwork. I have also set a bedtime for myself now. I have been finding myself staying up until past midnight, which makes me sleep in until at least 9, which is way too late and makes it so I can't go to Jazzercise. My new bedtime is 10:30pm.

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm actually starting to get really excited about finding out what we are having. I told my husband this morning to open the envelope on our anniversary. I also still need to make that video for him, I better get on that tomorrow, it might take a bit of time since I plan on involving the cat with it and I still don't have a storyline.

Welcome Rachel and Lorna - Congrats on moving onto the second trimester!

Lauren - glad you are feeling better.

Afm: The good new is we found out it's a boy while at the ER yesterday. For me to go to the ER is huge. I'm not the type of person to run to the doctor, esp the ER. At any rate. I felt kind of crapy Friday and ended up throwing up again Friday evening violently (so much for m/s being over!). At least it's not as rough. I felt weak on Saturday, but better. Then, apparently during DTD on Saturday afternoon I had the worst bleeding I've ever had - it was dripping down my legs - just horrible. Worse than any period I've ever had. Our bed looked like a crime scene, as did our floor and bathroom. It was scary - can't even put into words. DH felt horrible b/c I had laid down to take a nap and he decided he wanted to join me, which led to more than I bargained for. He just kept saying, I wish I'd just let you take a nap over and over during the agonizing drive to the ER and then in the waiting room. I kept telling him that DTD doesn't cause m/c. But, he's already made up his mind that we will not attempt to DTD again until at least February! Poor guy. We are both a little traumatized. At any rate, they ran a bunch of tests and did thorough exams and can't find out why it happened, but they suggested pelvic rest (ya think?!) and to stay off my feet for a few days. The baby looks really good! However, my uterus is super tilted. The tech said she'd been doing this for over a decade and had never seen anything like it. My inards are just really screwy. This baby is such a blessing - hard to believe my body cooperated enough for me to even get pregnant - it's really a miracle! While the tech was doing the ultrasounds (had to do a vaginal one also to really get a good picture b/c things are just so screwy in there), she asked if we planned on finding out the gender. DH had already spotted it, but didn't want to say anything until she confirmed. And there it was clear as day - he really wanted us to see!!! The relief that came over both of us when we saw the heartbeat - I just can't describe it. Then, to get to find out that it was a boy - amazing! The emotions we went through yesterday were ridiculous! At any rate, the bleeding has nearly stopped now. So, my goal is to keep it that way. And, Luke Daniel is going to make sure I have a head full of gray hair before he arrives! DH says he's not going to have any hair by the time our little Luke gets here!

Sorry for the book - I just knew this was the one place where I could share all the details.

jth - so glad YOU'RE feeling better!! I can't imagine how scary that must have been! And don't apologize! We all lean on each other for the support we can't quite get elsewhere. No one understands how nervous and overjoyed cysters are to conceive and carry and baby, other than other cysters. Just SO happy you and Luke are OK!! (And that you got to find out the sex!! Yay!) Poor DH. Even though we know intercourse can't cause m/c, they just don't, and my DH has said numerous times that he would feel horrible, and he does everytime we DTD and I cramp afterwards (although not bad enough to not DTD - lol).

afm - we put the crib together yesterday and we're trying to figure out how to arrange the room. It's smaller than what I thought, so it's going to be tight. we'll figure it out though. Frederick's of Hollywood doesn't have maternity stuff per-say, but they do carry larger cups and smaller bands. I got a 34F and a 32F bra (to allow for the coconuts to get bigger...ugh). The 32 fits perfectly right now, so I know if I grow at all, it's over - lol. Not sure what I'm going to do about nursing bras later, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I'm getting really tired of people telling me how hard it's going to be to have this baby on my own for 6-7 months. It makes me so frustrated. Yes, I know it will be challenging, duh! I just want to say to them, you know what, single moms do it all the time and they have to work and worry about money, all I have to worry about it taking care of a baby every day. I'm sorry, I just really needed to vent about this. I am a capable human being. Yes, I know I'll be tired, yes I know I may get frustrated, but oh well. This is life and I plan on living it, even if that means experiencing all the ups and downs it includes. Ugh, I'm just so frustrated with strangers telling me this that I don't even know how to put it into words. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm told my uterus is "severely retroverted." They couldn't even find my cervix during the vag ultrasound. Finally, the tech found it and was surprised at its location. Basically, I'm a case and should donate my body to science! Btw, b/c of the amount of blood they had to put in a catheter to get a clean urine sample - that was a first for me. The nurse informed me that the one they will insert when it comes time for me to deliver the baby is larger. umm...thanks for telling me that?! :) It was an emotional day and we are so relieved to be home and know our little Luke is safe!

Jth--did they say anything about manually moving your uterus into the correct position? There is a serious condition during pregnancy that can develop from a retroverted uterus. Usually the uterus corrects itself by 12 wks of pregnancy but if not it can lead to trapping/suffocating the baby (incarcerated uterus)---a symptom at that point can be not being able to urinate--have to use a catheter. I only know about it because my uterus is normally retroverted so I read some horror stories but my OB said she has never seen a case of it. You should ask if you are at risk for it, maybe even see a specialist, since you are 16wks. Sorry if I've worried you, I just don't want anything bad to happen to you or baby.

Praises - thanks for the information and concern. I plan on talking with my OB tomorrow about it. The ER peeps said that it is supposed to correct itself. I believe that it usually corrects itself by about 12 weeks, but it can take up to 20. The ER doc said that they think I should be fine and that I will probably have more back labor as a result of the positioning. No one said anything about harm to the baby. However, I do plan on triple checking with my OB. It's too important to ignore it.

Jth-that is scary, but glad you are doing better and congrats on the boy!

Tiffany- I hate people like that! Try to tell you what it's going to be. You will be fine! You make the best of a not great situation. Of course you wish you weren't alone, but it is what it is.

I had a great day....finally picked out baby bedding that I love!! The colors are two shades of pink and two shades of grey. It was a little more than I expected to spend....but DH was fine with it, so I got it! He is so cute, he is out of town now for work and had a free day today. Free day for him means I got 10 pictures via text of baby girl shoes, clothes, tiny pink arm chair, diapers, and the list goes on and on. It was really cute!! I think he is as bad as me, I spent hours yesterday looking forth perfect baby bedding!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

BabyDreams - it's amazing how many crib bedding set options are out there! I don't even want to know how many hours I've spent looking at all the options. I had the perfect set picked out if it was a girl, but was torn between three if it was a boy. However, I think we decided on a theme today as well. We had thought about doing sports, but I wasn't sold on it. Then, we found this adorable set, which like you was more than we intended to spend. It's called Forest Friends by Carter's. It's cute and I think it's unique. So, that makes me happy:) I figure when he's old enough Luke can decide to decorate his room in sports if he wants to do so. For now, he's going to have to live with forest critters!

Good morning ya'll.

jth - Omg that would have been scary..I'm glad everything is ok with you and Luke (Love the name by the way and congrats on Team Blue). You definately did the right thing going up the hospital though.

Babydreams - Thats cute that DH is out taking photos of things in his spare time. I love it when the guys get involved like that and not just leave it up to us ladies. My husband is more crazy about getting stuff than I am and seems to be able to spot bargains more.

Tiffany - I hate it when people say that to us as well. And most of them don't even have kids so don't know what its like. Hang in there hun..You have us all for support.

AFM - Nearly have the nursery sorted out. Got the change table/bath unit on Thursday night which took about an hour and a half to assemble. Thought we should grab that since it was on special and that was all we needed for big furniture. Just need to put a shelf up and do a bit of decorating etc and its all ready to go. I'm sure it will get changed around about 10 times before little Sophie is here though.
Think I done to much though since my back and hips are sore now. Having a relaxing day today...Going to get some embroidery done and get started on some spew rags.

I have some patterns of ducks and different animals that im going to embroider and then frame so we can put them on the walls in the nursery. Rather than going out and buying pictures that cost a fortune.

JTH - OMG how scary! I am so sorry this happened. I'm glad the u/s showed everything was okay though. Definitely adhere to the pelvic rest like you said, lol, and try to take it easy if you can. When I had my bleed I hadn't even DTD, it wasn't as large of a bleed as yours, but they found a subchorionic hemorrhage. It's good they didn't find anything like that on you, but in doing research it is the most common cause of bleeding besides m/c. But, yours came DTD so as you know it could be caused by that. I'm thinking of you! So glad your baby boy is ok!

:) Thanks! We picked out the name Luke about 7 years ago when we thought our journey to starting a family would be much shorter than it has been! Being able to finally call our baby by the name we picked out so many years ago is a wonderful feeling. We just can't wait to meet him!

I've been knitting today. I want to hurry up and finish my current project (infinity scarf) so I can start knitting a blue blanket and a few blue bibs! I knitted a yellow bib with a duck pattern in it and a green blanket a while ago, but now I want to personalize some things for Luke.

I love the idea of framing your embroidery work and putting it in the nursery!

And Sophie is a beautiful name!

Thanks Jillybn:) After speaking with my doctor's office today, they seem to think the bleeding was from my cervix. They said based on what I told them about the u/s at the ER, where my cervix was and the amount of blood, it makes the most sense. I'm going to my OB on Thursday for a regularly scheduled appointment. I love my doctor's nurse and she was great about giving details - so much better than the ER peeps. I'm sorry for your scary experience. Seeing blood, even a little spotting during pregnancy, is scary. Seeing heavy bleeding is extremely frightening. I hope DH can get over this b/c I think it will be ok to DTD before February, but he's super gun shy now - poor guy! To be honest, I'm a little nervous about it as well. Doc's office said to wait until at least my next u/s (late Aug) before there is an pelvic activity. I don't think that will be a problem!

Thanks again Praises! I told my doc's nurse about what the ER peeps said and she said that I should be fine to wait until my August u/s - prob the week of 8/15. When I go to my scheduled appointment this Thursday I plan to tell the doctor again about what the ER peeps said about how tilted my uterus is. And, my guess is they won't be able to hear the heartbeat with the doppler again (they couldn't at 13 weeks).

Did I understand that your uterus is tilted as well? I take it your uterus is tilting/has tilted forward?

Tiff - good for you no letting anyone get you down! you are one of the strongest women I have ever "met"!! =) when do you find out the sex of the baby? Do you have names picked out?

jth- How scary! I'm glad you and baby Luke are doing well! Keep resting.

Imaguire- I'm glad that you found some bras that fit you. I'm still having a hard time finding something comfortable. How exciting to have the crib set up! We are going to wait until we find out if the bean is a boy or girl so we can paint first. Then we will order the crib.

Tiffany- I'm sorry that people are giving you a hard time. Parenting is hard in general. Don't worry about them. Just take care of your self and your baby.

Babydreams- Your bedding sounds cute! I'm thinking about making my own and just buying fitted sheets, but I'm not sure yet.

Megzy- How exciting to have the nursery set up! You have lots of time to decide where everything should go. I'm glad you are having a restful day.

AFM- It's a busy week here before I go on vacation next week. We put an arm chair that rocks into the nursery this weekend. I cleaned off the book shelf yesterday and left a few picture books out for the baby and my nephews, but packed up a lot of older chapter books that my stepson isn't interested in any more. The rest of the week will be spend getting out camper ready for 9 days in the Adirondack mountains.

Imaguire - I dont have any suggestions for Acne sorry...I been having problems with it on my back. Thought the antibiotics i was on for my UTI would have helped but seems to have made it worse lol. Must be another boost in hormones or something. Keep getting really dry flackey skin on my face too which i been putting moisturiser on..Seems to help for a bit.

jth - Yeah we have had our names picked since we started TTC. I think both DH and I like to have things pre-organised rather than wait last minute. I know a few friends that waited until their baby was born to name him/her and they picked aweful names. One of them is even regretting naming their kid what they did now too.

AFM - Sorry in advance for this vent...But im sick of the hospital st**fing us around...Since we are gooing through the public system here in Australia because our private health insurance isnt covering us until September and we couldnt afford private health costs up front. Went to their antenatal clinic for an appointment..That was fine..They referred me to their Birthing Centre which is more laid back and for lower risk pregnancies/births etc. They decided they wouldnt take me because my BMI is too high (What a load of c**p i recon since i lost weight since my BFP which is what the BMI is worked off), therefore im too high risk for the birthing centre.

Anyway they said they would get back in the next few days about an appointment with the Antenatal clinic..This was 4.5 weeks ago and never heard back from them..Not even a letter. I called the antenatal clinic yesterday about it who said they new nothing about me being referred back a there was nothing on my records about it..So said they would contact the birthing centre to find out what is going on and call me straight back...Needless to say i never heard from them. I'm starting to think they just don't want me there.
Now im getting really annoyed since i'm due for an antenatal checkup and also still waiting on the report back from my morphology scan 4 weeks ago.
Anyway sorry about the vent and the novel. Just had to get it out since nobody else seems to listen or care...DH cares but doesnt seem to understand the importance of these checkups. He thinks that if baby is still moving and my tummy is growing then everything is fine.

jth--well mine is normally tilted back so during TTC it was a little hard for them to find both ovaries at times--apparently mine are far away from my uterus--and during my HSG, my RE tried to manually move my uterus forward so i could see it better but i started cramping up so he said nevermind. at one point i asked an u/s tech about it and she said mine is not very retroverted and it's pretty common. it seems like after getting pregnant it's been easier to see things on u/s and they never had a problem finding a heartbeat so i assume it has corrected itself.

lauren--omg my acne is annoying!!! sorry i really don't have any tips. i've been using acne wash daily but only used the overnight lotion a couple times since being pregnant. i don't know if it's helping--i don't want to find out if i stop using it! lately it's mainly my forehead that is breaking out and the other day i thought, well at least my chin has been clear and--kid you not--the next day my chin starting breaking out and it was really painful. so much for that glowing pregnant skin i'm supposed to have right now!!! unfortunately, if i'm not on BCP, i've got acne.

afm, trying to get through the next two weeks till they finally check my cervix. every little thing i feel down there freaks me out. the past couple days i've had random little pains, probably stuff stretching again. it's been quite a while since i've had these pains..they're way down in my va-jay-jay! but no pressure or spotting so trying to ignore it. i love these little avocados--can't wait to meet them! (but enjoying the peace and quiet for now..haha)

praises - at least i'm not the only one. mine is mainly on my jawline, but it's starting to expand up my cheeks. ew!! planning on going to walmart tonight to try to find something, ANYTHING that will work! But i've read several places to avoid salicylic acid during pregnancy. have you heard of this?

afm - i really enjoyed my prenatal class last night. planning on going every week now. tried to walk on the treadmill this morning, but it's in our sunroom, and it's super hot in there. didn't make it very long. gonna have to walk in the evenings i guess. also, we ordered the bedding last night (see picture)!! it's backordered and isn't supposed to be here until August, but that's ok. just hoping it gets here before the school year starts so that we can paint the room before craziness ensues. i also went to pick up my books from the school yesterday. got to see my new classroom, which is still in transition, and isn't conducive to science labs, so i'm going to have to move around more than i wanted to, but i figure exercise is always good. still not excited to have to work, but there's nothing i can do about it, so i'm making the best of it!

Selo - thanks, will do! My office is begging me to start working from home at least one day per week (twist my arm!). I had planned on asking to start working from home some next month due to my commute (one hour each way), but I didn't want to push them. Our big boss called me in her office this morning to ask me if I'd please consider working from home at least one day per week. I love where I work! It's really amazing - so family-friendly! I hope you have a great vacation and enjoy the mountains!

Meagan - I'm really sorry you're having issues with the hospital. I hope they straighten it out for you soon. How frustrating!

Lauren - sorry about the acne. I really like your bedding set!!! A sailboats theme (something similar to what you picked out) was on our short list!

Praises - was it painful when your RE tried to manually move your uterus? Sounds super uncomfortable. I can't believe you've been blessed with twins! I'm so excited for you:) I hope your prayers are answered and you do indeed get one of each. Do you have a feeling about what they might be? In my heart of hearts I knew my little one was a boy, as did both our moms. In fact, last week I apologized to my belly b/c I've been talking to the baby and referring to it as a him/he and I told it I was sorry if it really was a girl! At least now, I know I was correct in referring to "him" all this time!

afm - back at work today and worn out! I got used to being off my feet after just 2.5 days of rest. And, I'm not showing, which kind of bums me out a little. In a way, I'm glad that I'm not gaining a ton of weight yet. However, I still wish it was more evident that I was pregnant. People keep coming up to me and telling me that my belly is too flat to be 4 months pregnant. Oh, and I did score a pair of maternity jeans at a local thrift shop for $4. That's all the random little bits that are floating around my head right now, preventing me from being productive at work!

I had an appointment this afternoon. I have gained 8 pounds in the last 6 weeks, they tell me that is completely fine. It seemed like a lot to me though, oh well. The heartbeat sounded good, but they never say what the rate is, oh well. They gave me another ultrasound just for fun, which I'm slightly disappointed about. My NP is a novice at the ultrasound machine, and I swear she gave me a potty shot but said she didn't. The picture I'm questioning is a face on of the legs with something between them. I keep telling myself that I'm sure there is something between the legs if it is a boy or a girl, and it doesn't particularly look like boy or girl parts, argh. At least I have my anatomy scan tomorrow morning and in a few weeks I'll know for certain what this baby is. I'm thinking I must want a girl, because I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed when I thought I saw boy parts. I know that is silly, because I am really happy with either, so I'm not sure where that feeling is coming from.

Otherwise things are fine here, I've been tired and starting to think I should start eating a bit healthier. Oh, my next appointment is in 5 weeks, they will be having me take that 1 hour glucose test. Anything special I should know about it? All she said is that I didn't need to fast. Should I avoid eating right before the appointment though?

lauren--that bed set is very cute! yeah i read about the salicylic acid but they said as long as you're not keeping it on your skin for long periods of time it should be ok. so i use the face wash sometimes but not the lotion. i also switch it up with my benzoyl peroxide face wash and lotion, which they say are safe. definitely don't use anything with retinol because of possible vitamin A overload.

jth--it was not painful, just really uncomfortable because at the same time the dye fluid was in my system and everything started to cramp up. not sure if you had an HSG done but it's not the most fun thing. i was fine about 15 mins after the test though.

tiffany--my glucose test is next Tues--i'll let you know how it goes. Dr said you don't HAVE to fast the night before but she recommends it so that i don't fail it unnecessarily and have to retest with the longer test so i am going to fast (while i'm sleeping, not hard!) and do the test first thing in the AM. i will be doing the test again between 24 and 28 wks, she's just testing me now because she said i'm more at risk with PCOS (even though i don't normally have problems). and i read that with twins you are more at risk but she said she's doing it early because of PCOS so who knows.

I haven't touched benzoyl peroxide since trying to become pregnant. I was told by my doctor that it is dangerous to use when pregnant and everything I can find says it is a class C drug. Not a good thing when pregnant.

Tiffany: Maybe the thing between the legs is just a piece of umbilical cord? I would avoid anything sugary right before the glucose test, but I've heard eating protein before the test can actually help you pass!

Praises: Good luck on the GTT. I hope you pass!

Megzy: I would call once a day, calmly and respectfully, until they get their sh*t together.

AFM: I stopped progesterone suppositories one week ago yesterday, and they tested my progesterone Friday. They called today with the notes, and it was only 14. :( Isn't that really bad for the 2nd trimester? I feel like that means my placenta isn't making enough progesterone either, just like my ovary wasn't. The lab said it's in "normal range". To which I said, "It was 13.2 8 weeks ago and you put me on suppositories. How can 14 be normal?" So I don't know what the deal is with that. Anyone have low progesterone in the 2nd tri?

Update: They called back. She said she told the nurse wrong that it was normal. It's supposed to be at least 20, most women are higher than that even. So 14 is low. But she also said there's nothing we can really do about that. And that I should be reassured about the heartbeat.

Another question: Anyone here stay on metformin past 12 weeks? I'm thinking about staying on it until 28 or 30 weeks, because I'm pretty convinced by the studies that say it prevents gestational diabetes. Anyone here have any opinions?

Yeah, I'm just not sure. Oh well, it is all speculation until I find out for sure. I was debating sending my husband the picture, but I know he wants a boy and I don't want him to get his hopes up and then have it end up being a girl, so I think since my appt tomorrow is at 8am, I'll just wait until I get those ultrasound pictures, since I wasn't even supposed to get an ultrasound today. I am speculating boy though. I was so relieved to hear the heartbeat and see it move more than anything though! I don't know why I worry about these things, but I do. Oh, and when the guy first took my BP, it was very high, I asked him if I could relax for a second and have it taken again, he had no problem with that. After relaxing and him making me laugh and forget about it, my blood pressure was a very healthy range, thank goodness. I think what caused it was many reasons, there was a baby crying, I was anxious about the appt, I had a headache, and I was feeling uneasy after finding out how much I weighed.

I'm not sure about progesterone, they didn't test mine again after that 1st beta. If you are concerned though, I would definitely talk to the doctor about it.

Edit: After looking at the picture some more, I have decided it could be the umbilical cord, because what I'm seeing looks like it shifts from one picture to the next. At least I'm getting the excitement I wanted before finding out what it is! And gosh darn, this is one of those times I wish I could call the husband, oh well, I'll just have to talk to him tomorrow morning. Back to schoolwork I go!

thanks Rachel! per the American Pregnancy Association:
Guideline to Progesterone levels during pregnancy:
ē 1-28 ng/ml Mid Luteal Phase (Average is over 10 for un-medicated cycles and over 15 with medication use)
ē 9-47 ng/ml First trimester
ē 17-146 ng/ml Second Trimester
ē 49-300 ng/ml Third Trimester

Tiffany--i haven't asked my OB but i've read multiple sources that say benzoyl peroxide is fine--as far as we can tell, because it hasn't been studied so it is category C. category C drugs are prescribed often for pregnant women, usually when the benefit outweighs the risk (like severe nausea). obviously with acne, you could say the benefit does not outweigh the risk since we can survive just fine with acne. but the way i see it, if i'm using a low dose and usually washing it off my face in 5 seconds, it's probably fine. however, you can never go wrong with avoiding something completely, so i'm not saying anyone SHOULD use it.

Hi guys, my husband and I are getting ready for a week-long trip to Argentina, so I figured I would share this information before I left because several of you were wondering. Regarding prenatal yoga, my county's rec center program offers weekly classes, which I've been attending and enjoying. The classes don't feel difficult in the slightest while I'm there, but then afterwards I always feel sore in a new place, so I take that as a good sign.

My friend who is a midwife (not my midwife, I only have an OB) recommended several prenatal yoga DVDs to me. I looked them up on Amazon and chose the two that seemed the most personally appealing. I settled on Suzanne Bowen's Long and Lean Prenatal Workout because it got a lot of positive reviews and it sounds like it could be moderately challenging. I also went with Element: Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga because each session lasts only 20-30 minutes, and I thought that was ideal especially for the postpartum portion, when I figure if I can get myself back to exercising relatively early on that the most I'll be able to do at a time would be 30 minutes. Any more than that seems unreasonable. Anyway, I haven't been home enough lately to try either DVD yet (we are just traveling pretty much the entire month of July) so I'll have to report back in August when I have a sense of the pros and cons of each. I imagine, though, that they will be fine since they've come highly recommended by a professional.

My update on my 20-week anatomy scan. All in all, everything looks fine and the fetus is measuring where it should be which is great! For some reason I thought the anatomy scan would be a magical time with a lot of excitement, it was the complete opposite. I drank my water beforehand. The tech greeted me, he seemed like a Seinfeld character, awkward, foreign, just strange. Anyway, I told him my situation, and asked if he would write down the gender and put it in an envelope. He said he wasn't supposed to but he guessed he will. Argh. So for about a good 5 minutes he was going on and on about how I can't blame him or the hospital if he predicts the gender wrong. I told him not to worry about it, I know he is just making his best guess and that is all he can do. Anyway, the 1st 1/2 hour it just involved me laying on a table staring at the ceiling while he took all the measurements. Then he had me empty my bladder, he did some more measurements. Then he showed me the baby for like 30 seconds, gave me 4 pictures(all of pretty much the same thing). I asked him if he was able to tell the gender, so he went looking for that, printed off the picture and put it in the envelope for me. Then he left while he talked to the doctor and then he came back and told me the doctor said everything looks fine and healthy and he told me to have a good day. I sure am glad I didn't have my husband there! It would have been such a waste. Anyway, still nice to know the baby looks healthy and there isn't anything glaring wrong with it. I have the ultrasound with the gender sealed in an envelope that I so want to open!

Other than that, has anyone had any problems leaking urine? It seems like when I sneeze and sometimes just standing up makes it happen. I was going to look up ways to help with this. I generally don't have problems in this area except sometimes right after sex.

Tiffany - I am so sorry at the way he handled his self. Not very professional at all. I would be going crazy too! Yes urine leakage is common. They say Kegels help. I had bladder problems before, but I wear a panty liner every day now.

Tiffany--sorry about your bummer of a tech. what a way to be a drag! i'm glad your u/s went fine though.
my friend told me that after having a baby her bladder "is shot", because she leaks pee when she sneezes. some women have problems with it, some don't. like Jamie said, kegels are supposed to help prevent that. i really don't want permanent bladder issues, so i need to do more kegels! i haven't had any leakage yet during pregnancy.

ready--have a fun trip!!

Thanks ladies. I've tried doing kegals, but ahem, I'm not sure if what I'm really doing is kegels. Anyway, luckily I'm not bummed about the ultrasound, I'm just so happy that everything looks good and is healthy :) I got to video chat with my husband this morning, so that was a lot of fun. I don't know how to attach pictures, so I'll just attach the links to where you can see some pictures. Two of them are ultrasound pictures from yesterday and today. You might see why I thought one of the ultrasounds could have been a gender shot, but they reassured me that it was not. The other picture is my 20 week profile picture, though I will be taking the 22 week one this Friday :)

Tiffany--sorry about the jerky u/s tech. So when r u going to send the gender to ur husband?

Ready--have a fun and safe trip.

Afm--just been trying to stay out of the heat! We have had dangerously high heat indexes here in iowa this week. I'm sure some of you are experiencing them too. Heat seems so much worse being pregnant so we have been inside all week. Can't wait to get outside! Of course the kids are starting to get very bored.

Hey all,

Tiffany - I had a look at those pics you posted...I wasnt sure what I was looking at in the first one. Assuming thats the one you thought might be a gender one. The profile one is cute though :). Sorry about the tech.
Sorry about the bladder leakage as well. I found pelvic floor exercises(Im assuming thats what kegels are) to help strengthen my pelvic floor. Havn't had much leakage for a while...Just mainly CM. Ewww. They also help for pelvic strength during labor as well.

Shan - You can send some of that heat here if you like....Its winter here in Australia so its rather cold....On top of that its raining too which makes it worse. Hope it cools down for you soon.

AFM - Finally got an antenatal appointment...They called Tuesday afternoon after I posted on here about their issues and told me to come in Thursday (Today). So went in.
Fundal height is measuring about 25cm which is good being about 24 weeks.
Babies heart rate was 140bpm.
Baby is going fine...She was moving around a lot while they were using the doppler. Don't think she liked it much.
Blood Pressure has gone back to normal now since it was low earlier on.
The report from my ultrasound did confirm that I have a low lying placenta which is parcially covering my cervix :(. So they need to do another scan later on in the 3rd tri' to see if its moved up otherwise I will be getting a Caesarian which I don't want.
Also getting me in for a Glucose test with my next appointment in 4 weeks. Unfortunately DH will be missing that one since he's off to Thailand on the same day for 2 weeks.

Megzy - no reason to worry about the placenta yet. i have the same thing, although mine isn't quite covering the placenta. we still have plenty of time for the uterus to grow and the placenta to move up. I've already prepared myself for the possibility of a c-section. If it happens, it happens. I'm just glad you were able to get an appt and they stopped giving you the run around.

ready - thanks for the yoga DVD suggestions. have fun on your trip!!

tiff - sorry the u/s tech was so weird! =( I LOVED your pictures though! I have about the same size bump you do! and how cute is the profile one of the little one with his/her hands over his/her head!? i don't think i've had urine leakage, but def major cm leakage...gross! been slacking with my kegels, and i need to get my butt in gear and get back to it.

shan - sorry about the heat! it's hotter where you are than here in FL! RIDICULOUS!! Hope it lets up soon!

jamie - glad to see you on here every now and then!! How are you doing?? How are things going? Still thinking of you! =)

Hi ladies, I just wanted to introduce myself! I hit the 13 week mark yesterday, so I think it's safe to join you over here! I'm pregnant with twins and so far, everything is going well. I'm glad to say the extreme tiredness seems to have passed and I'm getting much more of an appetite.

It is definitely hot here in PA too! I'm meeting a friend at the mall today just to get a break from the heat so I can walk around in the air conditioning a little bit. I'm a teacher, so I'm lucky enough to get the summers off. I usually teach summer school, but this summer I was finishing up grad classes and writing my master's paper. I'm glad to say that all is officially done and I graduate next month, so now I can relax and enjoy the rest of my summer. I've already been into school several days organizing my classroom, at least it's air conditioned at school too!

Also, I wanted to chime in about the bladder issues. My SIL is getting her doctorate in physical therapy, and she works with women and has exercises that they can do to help with incontinence. I'm not sure what they are, it probably does include kegels, but maybe you could look into seeing a women's health physical therapist if it continues to be a problem.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

jamie--so glad things are going better for you!

tiffany--i realized i will only be 17 wks next wk and my OB had said i should get my glucose test at 20wks, so i called her and asked if we should move it and she agreed. she already gave me the drink at the last appt, so it's just sitting in my fridge. so my test will be at the following OB appt.

i cancelled my AFP that was scheduled for next week (i'm guessing it was a quad screen). i read that it's not really reliable with twins so they will just end up recommending an amnio (if positive), which i don't want. plus i already had the NT and they checked my AFP at that point and i think that is supposed to be more reliable with twins because they factor that in.
11 days till our anatomy scan!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meagan - so glad you finally got an appointment. I hope you don't end up having to have a c-section. I can relate, I've been told I might be heading that way as well, and I really want to avoid it if at all possible. I hope they do a better job of getting you in and responding to you from here on out.

Tiffany - love the belly pics!

Praises - you are carrying twins - no doubt you have an adorable baby bump! I would think your bump would grow faster because there are two in there taking up space, but that's just my uneducated thought! I don't really have a bump yet - and I've been able to where most of my normal clothes so far. Though I did score a pair of maternity jeans at a thrift store for $4 last week (sorry if I'm repeating myself, my brain is mush these days).

Lucy - welcome to the second trimester!!

Afm: I had a regularly scheduled appointment today. The best news: they were able to pick up the heartbeat right away with the doppler! That means that my innards are beginning to shift! All I can say is that I believe in prayer. On Saturday I was hearing how serious this could be if things didn't start to shift and how I might end up needing a catheter during my pregnancy because I'd eventually not be able to pee on my own the way things are positioned, etc. I was trying not to worry about it all, but I was definitely praying my innards would begin to shift into place by themselves. We will know more when I go for the anatomy ultrasound on August 16. Also, as of today, I've gained 3.5 pounds with this pregnancy. Believe me, I've not been trying to not gain weight (as evidenced by my McDonald's breakfast - couldn't help myself today!). I figure I'm due to blow up like a whale in the third trimester. And, the m/s is still there a little so that probably is contributing to the slow weight gain. I'm starting to get hungry and actually want to eat more now. That makes me feel normal! I really missed food:) On the flip side, I don't leave home without my tums! Heartburn is part of the daily routine now. This is my first experience with heartburn and I pity those who have to deal with it often. At least I can eat some tums and get past it most of the time.

Hi Ladies, Just thought I would check in as I havent been around for a while. Glad to see everyone is doing well.

I am doing OK. Am going to a wedding tomorrow and had this afternoon off to go shopping for presents and the finishing bits of my outfit. Luckily the dress taht I bought before I knew I was pregnant still fits.

The post CVS pain seems to have cleared up now and TBH I dont really feel pregnant at all. I am sill a bit tired but even that is easing off a bit.

Eve is at my parents today and tomorrow as the wedding is no kids. She is very excited about her new baby sister and wants to call her either Eve or Fairy Princess. I planned to spenmd the afternoon watching crap telly and luxuriating in the quiet. Which I sort of did. I fell asleep ;-) Bit of a waste but I obviously needed it.

Here is a bare belly picture of me at 22 weeks. It is funny how when I look in the mirror, I don'tn see that belly, but it always shows in the picture.

Today has been pretty good, except for the horrid heat. I went to the post office and consignment shop just for 1/2 an hour and seriously thought I had made a mistake leaving the house.

I didn't get a chance to talk to the husband too much today, he has been really busy with patients, so it's not a big deal, he is over there to do a very important job. Plus, I think we've almost been talking too much lately. I sent off his care package today, which means hopefully, we will know what we are having by August 2nd, our 3rd wedding anniversary!

I went to the consignment shop today after I dropped off the package. I tried on some maternity clothes and actually found 3 things I like! I think I might start making a trip there every 2 weeks just to see what they have. I also bought a mobile, it was $7, but I only bought it for the parts. I am making my own owls to go on it so I just needed the mechanics.

Yesterday I managed to fit the non-matching, bookshelf that I didn't want in the baby room but didn't have anywhere else to put it, in the baby's closet :D It will provide great storage space in there and that also means that I need to find the baby a dresser. This is the one I'm considering : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H8J6EM/ref=s9_simh_gw_p201_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0M6WB0K8TSEREE74D8N2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846

My husband is worried about me getting it in the house and putting it together. To get it in the house, I'll just open the box outside and take it in piece by piece. I am a little concerned myself about putting it together. The description says it is 80 pounds and I'm not sure how assembly will be done. This might be an instance where I will have to call my husband's old supervisor that has offered his help if I need it, we shall see. Does anyone else have any other websites they visit to find reasonably priced things, such as dressers? I really don't want to spend any more than $150 and would prefer to spend less if possible, but I do want something that will last at least 5-10 years.

I've been practicing kegels, but not nearly as much as they say to do them. Some days I have problems, other days I don't have any problems. I ordered a maternity pillow and it came yesterday. I tried it last night and I really like it, I am really glad I spent the money on it. I have been struggling to eat healthy. For some reason it is really hard to eat regularly when I'm living by myself. I am concerned about gaining too much weight, as I've already gained about 15 pounds in the 22 weeks. I am considering counting calories and eating up until I reach whatever it is a pregnant woman is supposed to eat(need to look that up) and if I'm still hungry then I'll eat fruits and vegetables and I won't count those calories. I worry about gaining too much for the baby and my health. I really want to be able to drop the weight after the baby is born, and I know how hard it is for me to lose weight. I'm not letting this consume me or anything though, just something I'm keeping in mind.

I hope everyone is well. Hard to believe I'm only 5 weeks from the 3rd trimester!

Aww...what a sweet man I have. I got my anniversary gift a bit early today delivered by Fed-x, he was thinking it wouldn't come for a week. He adopted a species, the Red Panda to be exact, at the National Zoo. The red panda is both of ours favorite animal to visit when we go to any zoo. It came with a cute stuffed animal. For some reason this gift just made me cry and I haven't cried in a long time! The significance of zoos in our relationship is when we lived in Cincinnati, we bought a 1-year membership and visited the zoo every weekend for that year, sometimes twice. We didn't discover the red panda exhibit there until maybe after going for 1/2 a year. He said he will have to explain it on the phone the gift, so I'm curious if there is something else yet too...

I think I have gained about the same amount you have. I don't have a scale right now, but I really need to get one. I'm almost afraid of getting one though. I really need to get back on the healthy bandwagon. It'll be easier once I'm working and not sitting at home all day. I highly recommend the Special K cracker chips! My new favorites!

Ewwww @ pregnancy brain. I think my brain has turned to mush. Not just forgetting everything but go to say something and say something completely different that has nothing to do with what I was thinking lol.

Rach - No ghost images here...But im sure that would be creepy. I hope they go away for you.

AFM - DH is definately feeling baby move now. Shes getting a good kick on her and getting very active. She has a habit of kicking me in the vag too :o
I'm glad we can relax a little now since we have reached 24 weeks. I know theres still a long way to go and a lot of risks but at least we know if she does happen to decide to come early then theres a change that she can survive. Rachel--no vision problems here. You're not having any glucose or blood pressure issues right? I saw spots earlier in the pregnancy, kinda like when you stand up too quickly or whatever, but nothing major.
About memory-- they think that the brain shrinkage could possibly be a reason for memory loss but they don't really know why it shrinks. It takes about 6mos after for your brain to go back to normal. Oh and they say it could have to do with the new mother's heightened sense of awareness in caring for her young baby, but i dunno.

The rest of the anniversary gift goes as this. First, we both know that by "adopting a species" isn't literally owning that animal, but it is fun to pretend that is the truth, so we are going with the red panda is ours for the next year :) The 2nd part of the gift is for me to go down to the National Zoo(when the heat calms down) and take some pictures by them with the stuffed animal. The 3rd part is all of us, including the baby, will go down and visit after my husband gets back. For some reason I find this incredibly sweet.

I bought some diapers for the 1st time today. I took one out of the newborn package and they are so tiny! I'm still on the hunt for a dresser for the baby's room. There just aren't any good cheap stores out there. My husband ahem "lectured" me yesterday about eating better, meaning more meat, fruits, and veggies. Today, I ate some steak and a baked potato. I can't remember the last time I ate meat, so it was good. I'm going to have strawberries as a snack this afternoon. I managed to buy barely any crap on this last grocery shopping trip, I was very proud of myself. I know I'm supposed to be gaining weight, but after research, I was gaining too quickly, so I'm just taking the healthier eating habits approach. On that note, I'm going to go look at K-mart, because there is still one around in this area, and see if they have anything for a dresser and see what they have for maternity wear.

DH and I went to out to lunch today and there was a guy with his toddler triplets, getting lunch with them by himself!! It surprisingly went well, we were impressed for sure!

Anyone have armpit pain? I feel like I pulled muscles in both of them. I was doing a lot of chores last night but I didn't think I did anything crazy. I don't think its lymph nodes because I've had a swollen one before and this is different, and my temperature is fine.
Update: Ummmm ok, I think it might be acne??? Like under the skin??? There is one little spot on each underarm ( in different places though) that hurt like heck when I press on them but I can't really see anything. Kinda makes sense though because I think I have one on my vajayjay too!! Hurts like heck. Gotta love hormones.

Tiffany Ė your husband sounds so sweet! What a thoughtful anniversary gift! That will be so fun to take your first trip as a family to see your red pandas!

Praises Ė Iíve had issues with forgetting little things. We went to a party the other night and I made brownies to take along, but left them sitting on the kitchen counter. I realized when we were halfway there and I had to turn around. Another day I left my cell phone at home, another day I left coupons at home even after sitting them by my purse. Thatís a lot of forgetting in a short period of time so I will blame it on the pregnancy! I like to call it Momnesia! No armpit pain hereÖbut glad you may have found the cause.

Rachel Ė no vision problems here. Iíd let your doctor know if it keeps happening though. Even if it just happened once, it would be interesting to know if they can tell you what would cause that.

AFM - DH and I finally agreed on which room to use for the nursery today. We have 2 spare rooms, one is smaller and the other is a little bigger. We always planned that the small one would be the nursery, but now with twins I don't see why we wouldn't use the bigger room. DH said the smaller one is easier to heat, but he caved today and agreed we could use the bigger one. We found a crib we really like online and got out the tape measure to see how they would fit in each room, and they just fit nicer in the bigger one. :) We moved the guest bed to the smaller room and moved some other things to the basement. I can't wait to get the nursery set up! I think a lot of people only use one crib for the first couple of months with twins, and then split them up. That's probably what we'll end up doing too. Anyone have twins and know what works well?

Omg I am officially complaining right now!!! My armpits are so painful, you never realize how much you use them!!!! This is my worst symptom by far. Guess I was lucky to skip the m/s but got something random! I can't raise my left arm all the way--ridiculous!!!! I wonder if its just hormones or if this flipping heat is contributing.

Update..well the pain has eased off a little. I drove to work with an ice pack and switched it back and forth under my arms...lol. I haven't put my deo on yet but if I have to go outside at some point I will have to. I had been using Tom's deo but when these blazin temps started, I had to switch back to the Dove deo i used to use because I got so sick of smelling myself at the end of the day. TMI sorry!! I've never had problems with my underarms so I don't know what the hey is going on. No one else having this issue? Armpit acne, that is. I know some women get it in general, pregnant of not---I feel so bad for them!!

so I just have to ask....

Has anyone else not really seen the changes outside to their body but everyone else seems to notice?

For example, I am a bigger girl, but everyone around me says they can see the baby belly when all I see is fat :)

Also, my husband has made comments about how large my breasts are. I already had a big chest, and knew that I had to buy a few larger bras, but I didn't think they had grown that much, DH says they are much larger.

Tiffany1
07-25-2011, 05:09 PM
I don't see my baby bump much when I look in the mirror, I just see fat, but when I take a picture, I'm just shocked at the baby bump. I haven't noticed many other changes though. My boobs really haven't gotten any bigger, maybe slightly tighter in my bra, but not bad. I am small chested though, a 34A. I was obsessing quite a bit over weight this morning and my husband told me to stop obsessing and just accept the fact that I'm going to gain weight and that I'll have the chance to lose it after the baby gets here. I thought it was sweet of him to say. I just spent the past 3 hours cleaning the basement and boy is my body paying for it now! Even though it's 5pm already, yikes! Where did the day go. I'm off to go work on schoolwork and have a late supper later. I won't let myself work any later than 8 tonight though, I need at least 2 hours for myself just to sit back and relax.

My husband's buddy texted me this morning saying he is leaving for his deployment on Friday and asked if he could store some stuff in the basement, I told him sure. Now I'm wondering what and how much stuff he needs stored, considering I'm assuming he is moving out of his place...Oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll have a dresser I can borrow, ha! Oh, my poor poor body. Better get to that school now. Hope everyone is doing well!

Rebecca--I don't know, I never get ingrown hairs so I cant imagine why I would have so many all of a sudden! And it hurts just like the painful acne I had on my chin last week. Ugh!!!
I read your post on the other thread--I hope your pregnancy is fine!!!

Elle--not really, I seemed to notice the changes before anyone else. DH definitely noticed the boob changes right away though..lol. and he can tell they look painful/irritated.

Praises - I hope your underarms heal quickly. I had a pimple like thing down stairs a couple of months ago but havnt had anything like that under my arms. Only rashes which i get from deodorant allergies.

Elle - I find i see fat more than baby still. I can tell i have baby there but its still mainly fat. DH noticed my boobs bigger before I did.

AFM - Didnt realise Antenatal Classes where so expensive. 2 x 6 hour classes $155AUD. Thank goodness my private health insurance kicks in just before i go to them.
Thats about all to report here...Baby is still kickin like a trooper especially when i get into bed lol.

Megzy--yeah I have one downstairs right now!!! Lol TMI. But that's another reason I think the arm stuff is acne.
Our prenatal classes start next week! This week we are taking the tour at the hospital. I know it sounds early but I have to take the multiples class and they only offer it in Aug and Oct, so they said Oct is too late for me.

Less than 7 days now!!!!! (Gender countdown...Hehe)

tiff - be careful! don't push yourself too hard! i wish i had your drive though! need my nesting to kick in, and the energy that comes with it!

afm - i just don't have the energy anymore. i have to nap around 1 or 2pm everyday. it's hard to motivate myself to get up and do things. i stopped taking my iron for a bit (maybe a week or week and a half) b/c of intestinal issues. i'm assuming that's the cause, even though my last round of bloodwork showed my iron levels were great. been back on it for a few days now, but haven't noticed an increase in energy. anyone else had this problem? should i be worried?? little one still seems to be moving around a good amount (especially at night when i'm trying to sleep).

Lauren--maybe it's just a growth spurt??

Just had my check-up..heart rates were 154 and 147 I think. I'm such a dork with this pregnancy brain! I got my specimen cup and went in the bathroom and only when I was done peeing did I remember I was supposed to use the cup!! So now I'm in the waiting room drinking water. Lol. The nurse said that happens a lot so I felt better.
My OB recommends going on leave from work at 32 wks for me. I am so excited about next wk's appt. My OB said the peri will spend about an hour on each baby and ask me tons of questions about my medical history. I intend to ask several questions!!
My belly is really showing now! I finally look pregnant to people who don't already know. Must be that Ensure I drank last wk...haha

praises - I think you're right. woke up this morning, and had the worst, what I can only assume was round ligament pain. so painful it nearly took my breath away. getting down the stairs was a chore to say the least. Feels much better now, but if i move wrong, it comes back, so I'm just resting on the couch. I also think that my not sleeping well at night is contributing to my all day sleepiness as well. Sleeping on my side sucks - makes my hips hurt something terrible! gotta get used to it though.
Yay for getting to hear the heartbeats!! I wanna see the preggo belly!!

praises - Yay for finally showing..Can't wait to see your bump :). Those scans are very thorough. Think mine took about an hour and a half. But thats cause she is a wiggler and made it hard to get decents shots lol. Only down side is having to lay on the bed bursting to pee..Hopefully they let you empty some out half way through.

lmaguire - Omg i know what you mean about the hip thing...I swear mine crunch and move every time i roll over or move the wrong way. Try not to do to much at a time and don't lift anything heavy. I paid for it for a couple of days after helping DH set up the nursery. I am finding it more comfortable at the moment to lay on my right side though. Starting to find it hard to breathe on my back so can't stay that way for too long.

Pregnancy brain does not go away once the baby is born. It just turns into mommy brain. At least that has been my experience, and seems to get worse with each child. Often I find myself driving aimlessly and don't realize it until my ten yr old says "mom, where are we going?" I just pretend we are taking the 'scenic' route.....lol

I have been having lots of hip pain too. I think I have seriously 'popped' in a day. My belly is huge!

I've been loving the consignment shop that I shop at here. I just bought 6 tops for $34! I am starting to panic because it seems like suddenly all my "normal" clothes no longer fit at all. Some have become way too short, some have become too tight to be comfortable. So I am trying to build up my maternity wardrobe, which is difficult because maternity clothes are so expensive! At least I'm able to find some stuff at the consignment shop. I am finding that even maternity clothes are going to become too short soon. I wonder why they make maternity stuff so short, they have to know our stomachs are going to get huge and I really don't want to just wear oversized tshirts for the last trimester. I have a gray belly band, but I think I'm going to make a trip down to DC this weekend and go to the Forever 21 there(they have a maternity section at the one in DC). Forever 21 has cheap belly bands, and that way I can wear a lot more of my stuff longer. I'll probably get a black and a white one if they have them.

I think I might be constipated or something, my lower front stomach is kind of crampy like it could be, it is so uncomfortable!

I had a wonderful talk with my husband this morning, we were on skype and just laughed and laughed the whole time. I told him I think it is a little strange how I am doing so well this deployment(and him for that matter). I find my days going by so quickly I don't know where they went. I'm laughing and having fun, even if most days it is just me and the cat. I'm getting out and doing things. Sure, I wish he was here, but I think I'm doing rather well doing this on my own :) I try not to think about what he is missing, like feeling the baby kick, which I can feel at least once a day now. He gets to see my stomach on skype, so that is nice.

Nothing else new to report on my end. I'm getting excited to find out what we are having, but at the same time, I feel kind of sad we are finding out, I so didn't want to know...Still looking for a dresser. At least I finally picked out a travel system, I just need to buy it.

have you felt the baby kick yet and, if so, when did you feel it? i'm 17 1/2 wks and i don't think i've felt anything yet. a few days ago i felt a lot of stretching and whatnot and then my belly seemed bigger after that. i just heard the heartbeats yesterday so i know they're ok. today i've been feeling little cramps here and there. i lifted a few boxes off a shelf at work (which i will NOT be doing anymore!) and it worried me because i felt more crampy after that. i thought i'd feel something earlier since there are two in there!!

praises, it doesn't matter how many are in there, it depends on the strength of the baby(ies), location of placenta, and whether or not your uterus is tilted. Most 1st time moms feel it between 20-24 weeks. Some feel flutters earlier, but "for sure" baby movement is a bit later.

jilly - congrats on making it to the 2nd trimester!! hope things are going better for you now. (I've been lurking on the 1st tri boards for a little bit, adn I know you were having some trouble).

shan - I had heard that pregnancy brain doesn't go away. not reassuring - lol. my friend with two kids said she gave half her brain to her son and the other half to her daughter...lol. how are you?? haven't seen much of you lately.

tiff - yay for cheap maternity clothes! I have such a hard time because I'm so short (5'3"). Usually once I factor in the cost of getting pants hemmed, it's not worth it, so I've gotten all of my maternity pants, shorts, & capris from Old Navy since they sell "short" lengths. Lucky you though!! Hope you find a dresser soon. Have you tried IKEA? Is there one near you? When do you get to find out the sex of the baby?

praises - I didn't really feel the baby moving until a couple weeks ago. maybe 19 weeks? At least that's when I knew it was him and there was no doubt. I think i remember you saying you have a tilted uterus though, so that may hinder it for a bit.

afm - started taping off the nursery today so I can paint it next week. (we already have the paint). Picked out a bookshelf and dresser (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10153790) from IKEA. Very excited to get it together already!
I'm feeling better, still tired, but I'm making myself get up and do things since I'm running out of time before school starts back up. Trying to get my glucose test before school starts since it takes a bit, and I don't want to miss a bunch early on since I'll be missing a couple of months for maternity leave. So I'm calling tomorrow to see if that can be done since I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow, I assumed they can do it the 11th when I'll be 25 weeks. I sure hope so.

thanks ladies, well i am sure i will feel one or more of the babies soon. an older lady told me when she was pregnant with twins (but thought it was a singleton because it was back in the day), she said it felt like an octopus..haha. i'm so glad we found out way early!!!!!!!

just bought the car seats!!!!!!!! yay. we bought them from my SIL's next door neighbors who had their twins at 27wks!!! so they were in the hospital for 3 mos. man i really do not want to go through that! they couldn't even hold them for a while, i can't imagine. but their babies are 14 mos now and doing great, the doctors are impressed. they told us they swear by that Baby Wise book and followed it religiously when the babies came home. i'm kinda skeptical but i might as well check it out if i'm researching methods.

I think I started feeling kicks in the 19th week. Then the day before the 20th week I felt the kick from the outside! It is so cool to feel it from the outside and I was surprised how quickly I went from just feeling it move/kick a little to feeling it on the outside with my hand!

I was going to run to Ikea sometime this week, maybe. It would be nice to see the dresser before I commit to buying it. I need to stay away from any stores right now though. The lady I work for ended up not needing me tonight so I went shopping instead at Ross for maternity shirts. I bought 4 for $38! I also have a confession, I bought 3 shirts off of Destination Maternity and will be getting them next week. So for this week, I've spent like $120 just on maternity shirts. I feel so incredibly guilty. I keep telling myself that I will wear the heck out of them, I'm just not used to spending this much money. And all the baby stuff I need to buy yet!!!

The baby's gender is somewhere between DC and Afghanistan right now. We should know sometime next week what it is, that is, if the tech actually wrote it out on the ultrasound picture and just didn't print the picture.

I'm so stuck on this spending money bit. We, as a couple, are not money spenders, so it just feels really awkward for me. Then I start thinking of everything I need to buy yet and I get overwhelmed. Alright, I'm going to work on school now to get my mind off of it.

jilly - congrats on making it to the 2nd trimester!! hope things are going better for you now. (I've been lurking on the 1st tri boards for a little bit, adn I know you were having some trouble).

tiffany--you could always return some of the shirts if it would make you feel better. if you can afford it and DH is cool with it, don't feel bad! enjoy wearing some cute stuff, but i would agree that you shouldn't go crazy. it's kinda hard for me to buy maternity stuff because i have no idea how big i'm gonna be and i don't know if we'll TTC again later. so far i bought two tops, a sweater (for the fall of course--it's open in front so it will fit any size) and cropped jeans, all off the clearance rack at target and kohl's. curious to see how far my belly band gets me. i will probably spend the most on whatever outfit i get for the baby shower--gotta look cute for that!!

Tiffany - I'm glad you and DH are coping well with his deployment. I know what you mean with maternity tops....Mine keep riding up. I find it ok at home but not good while out and about. My main problem is finding pants that fit...I have 3 pairs of maternity pairs and theres only one pair i can wear since the others are uncomfortable after a while. I have some baggy pants that sit low down on my hips that a sit around at home in though. I wish it was summer here since it would be easier to get some nice dresses to wear.

Praises - I started feeling butterflies at aroun 15-16 weeks which i was surprised...Wasnt sure to begin with but my MW assured me that it was baby since where i was feeling flutters was around where babies legs were....Now its unmistakable kicks....She kicks me in the cervix so i swear she wants out.
She also said that if you feel bubbles or butterfly like feelings below the belly button then its most likely baby. If its above then most likely gas. Unless its later on of course..But earlier on its more than likely. It also depends on where the placenta is positioned and how baby/s is positioned to how early you will feel movements.

Welcome to those joining the 2nd Tri :) Yay.

AFM - My tummy has definately popped out more in the past couple of days. For some reason i'm finding it more comfortable now to sleep without pillows and wedges under my stomach. I can handle it for a while but since cant roll over i get cramped up and have to throw the wedges away anyway.
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks until im in the 3rd Trimester.....OMG its gone so fast..Kind of freaking me out a bit that in 15 weeks or so we will have our little girl here. Think i'm just worried that we won't be able to cope or that i'll end up with Postnatal Depression or something since I suffer with depression anyway...Hasnt been as bad since been pregnant but im thinking thats the hormones helping there.

I suppose I should say that I've only been buying things at the consignment shop, which is cheap, and the stuff I bought off of Destination Maternity was all on clearance. I'm not one to spend full price on things unless I have to. My husband is fine with it, because he knows that I do need to dress my growing body since none of my old clothes are fitting. But you are right, I'm staying away from maternity shopping for at least 2 weeks :)

I haven't started shopping for maternity clothes yet because I'm not sure what size I'll need. The first one I've been close to getting is a shirt I found online. I'm a big Steelers football fan and I'm trying to talk DH into going to their training camp in August because you can watch them practice, get pictures, and sometimes autographs. I found a maternity shirt that says "Brewing a Future Steelers Fan" with an arrow pointing at the belly. I showed it to DH and he said, "But you have fans in your belly, not just a fan!" lol It's $28 though plus shipping so I don't know if I'll get it or not...plus I don't know if it'll even fit, a small might still be too big cause I just have a little bump started. We'll see...

As far as feeling kicks, I don't know if it was definitely kicks or not I felt, but last night when I was laying on the couch I felt something going on in my belly. I told DH and he came over and put his head on my belly (he likes to listen to them, even though he's probably just hearing my food digesting!) Anyways, right when I felt something he said he felt like he got kicked in the face! I was just 14 weeks yesterday, which seems too early to be feeling kicks, especially since this is my first pregnancy. But then I felt the exact same feeling first thing when I woke up today. We'll see if it keeps happening. It was in the same spot below my belly button and a little to the left. My sister said she felt her baby kicking at 13 weeks, but that was with her 3rd pregnancy. She said if it keeps happening it may be the babies, if it doesn't keep happening it was probably just gas. Time will tell.

Ahh...I finally have all of my prenatal classes scheduled. There is even one I'm going to that they give you loads of free stuff, crib sheets, onesies, a homemade blanket, books, etc. The only one I have left is the tour of the hospital, but I'll make that one while I'm at my next appointment. I really need a calendar. I put them all on my calendar on my computer, but I like paper a lot more, I think I'll be printing out the next few months today and writing everything down. Now I just need my doula to confirm the next appt with her, around 28 weeks and I'll be good to go for a little bit.

I worked on school last night until about midnight and I am happy to finally say, I believe I am only a month a half away from finishing! I'm actually so close I'm going to try to finish up in a month, which is probably pushing it, but no reason I can't try!

My husband's friend came over to drop off some of his stuff to store while he is on deployment. After he left, I had all those old feelings I thought I had gotten rid of when my husband deployed. It left me feeling a little sad, and even though I don't see this guy that often, it makes me sad that he won't be around, strange.

Alright, husband just messaged me that he received THE package. Going to try to gmail video chat. I'll be back with any news...

tonight is our tour of the hospital. DH and i need to figure out our crib situation now that the car seats are out of the way.

anyone have this happen??? about 5:30 in the morning, i woke up because i couldn't get comfortable and then i realized i probably needed to pee. so i got up and i felt like i needed to go so i did. it took forever to empty my bladder--i must've been holding it for several hrs--and when i was done, my lower back started throbbing so bad! i got back in bed and just tried to breathe comfortably and it went away after a few mins. i was worried there was something wrong with my kidneys or something but i didn't have any other symptoms of infection. so i googled it and other pregnant women said that has happened to them when they wait too long to pee.

I get cramping in my kidneys if I wait too long to pee, especially when getting up in the morning. I always wondered if it was normal. I thought maybe it had something to do with scarring from 2 kidney stones or maybe the cyst on my left kidney. It's good to know other peopel get the same thing happening to them. I haven't had it happen in a while though.

Tiffany--congrats!! that is awesome!

Tiffany, congratulations on your news about your beautiful boy. It's a lovely way to involve your husband even though he is away. I bet he was thrilled to be able to tell you some news about the baby for once.

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Things hvae just been so busy here. First my laptop broke, then I had a couple of days break from the boards after the CVS was over (I think I just needed to forget all about it for a while) and then we had a friend's wedding last weekend, followed by visiting family. It's been lovely but tiring as I have also had a night visiting a friend this week so am flagging a little bit.

Not much else happening here, but it is lovely to read everyone else's news. I have the heart scan on 8 August but I'm just carrying on as normal for the moment.

For those of you who have asked about the baby moving, I am fairly sure that I felt Eve move when I was about 14 weeks. I was lying quietly in bed and thought I felt something but that I was imagining it. But then when I got to know what movement really felt like later I realised that it was a jumping baby I was feeling so early.

Has anyone got any ideas for getting rid of water retention? I put 2lb on overnight recently and thenanother two a few nights later, but as my wedding ring doesn't want to move and i have sock marks round my ankles I assume it is mostly fluid.

Thanks ladies for the welcome! It is weird to graduate to a new thread, even though I know most of you anyways :)

Imaguire - I am doing better, hopefully my complications are behind me. I'm looking forward to my next doctor's visit in a week and a half. Cute dresser, I love ikea!

Tiffany - Congrats on the baby boy. I agree it is special to have dh involved and be able to tell you something about the pregnancy when he is so far away. You are holding up great, I can only imagine how hard it is without him around.

Lorna - Wow that is early to feel movement! I can't wait until I feel movement but know I have a ways to go before then. About the fluid retention, I think I get it too. By the end of the day my stomach is way bigger than it is in the morning. I think drinking lots of fluid, keeping off your feet as much as possible will help.

Praises - You are so organized, you have so much done already. Have fun on the hospital tour, I bet it makes it so much more real. I don't know about the peeing thing. I am up like 3 times a night to pee, but I notice sometimes it is hard for me to completely empty my bladder.

Lucy - I have some maternity clothes now that are small that fit. I can already tell though I am going to grow out of them and need larger sizes as I progress. I think it is common to need more than one size at different stages, especially with multiples. Maybe try to buy just a few inexpensive things now, knowing you may have to buy more in a bigger size later.

Megzy - I can't believe you are almost to the 3rd tri. I had just started clomid I think when you got your bfp on the fertility board I remember. Sorry sleeping is uncomfortable, but at least you can sleep some! Maybe it's nature's way of getting us ready for babies by keeping us up at night being uncomfortable, and having to pee.

AFM - I am eating like a pig today! Wow. I'm like an endless pit. Let's see, I had two pieces of toast, a glass of milk with protein powder, a banana, and peanut butter for breakfast. Then snack was a luna bar, whole milk yogurt, and a cup of superfood juice. Then lunch was a chicken tamale, small serving of rice and beans with sour cream, and carrots, and then I was STILL hungry and ate two small quesadillas and an egg! Oh my. All for the babies, right? :)

Tiffany--Congrats on the boy!!

I feel that soreness sometimes too in my back if I wait too long to pee.

Just popping in to say "hi"!

Praises - I had that back pain too if I waited too long to pee. Never asked the doctor about it since I figured it out on my own.

Jilly - Toward the end, I would move around in different positions to get all of the pee out (hope that wasn't TMI). Eli was definitely pressing on my bladder and depending on how I moved, I could relieve the pressure.

Tiffany - Congrats on a boy! It's so much fun to buy the first gender-specific item. I have been silently following your story. I admire your strength. You and your DH make a great team, far or away.

Re: maternity clothes -- don't forget you'll be in a completely different season by the end of your pregnancy. You'll need to buy season-appropriate clothes by the third trimester, so you can shop for a larger size while replacing your tank tops with sweaters (I had the opposite problem). I know people have mentioned Old Navy. I got a lot of my maternity clothes from The Gap and Old Navy. I much preferred The Gap and watched the website for sales (they have them frequently). Some of my Old Navy stuff started to fall apart, and I had only worn it for a month or two at that point. I shopped ON online and had to return a t-shirt because it was see through! Read the reviews -- I should have for that one.

tiffany - Congrats on team Blue. :)

I had the soreness in my back before i was preggo when busting for a pee. Think its because of the Scar tissue on my kidneys from multiple infections growing up.

Went shopping last night and got my first maternity bra...Decided it was time to get one. I can't beleive how comfortable it is. I got one that i could do up on the first hook so theres plenty of room to expand. Actually DH picked that one out said it looks like it will be good support and is nice and soft to touch.
Baby was having a good kick last night. Was going pretty much all night up into i went to bed then finally settled down. Oh and i still think shes trying to kick her way out my cervix.

Congrats Tiffany!! I think it is amazing how far away you and DH are...yet so connected! What did you get shopping?? I was overwhelmed looking for my "first" girl thing to buy!

I need to catch up on the boards...congrats to you new comers!

Went and bought the paint for baby girl's room! Hard to believe but three pink sample and 3 grey samples on walls and I finally picked 2. Got a call that my glider is in today. I got such a great deal a babies r us! It was normally $450.00 (for both pcs) on sale for 225.00! It is the kind that looks like a chair not the rocker kind. I love it, so comfy! Now just have to get someone to help me get it home since my hubby is still working out of town. So, have to share a cute story....last Friday night I got free tickets to a Kenny Chesney concert, so I was there with my brother, sis in law and my uncle. (who is more like a bro) He was texting with my DH. Well, my DH sent him a text with a picture thAt said "while you guys are out partying and having fun, I am here working and doing all the shopping" the picture was of his hotel closet with TONS of clothes he has been out buying! I started crying when I saw it! I thought nit was the cutest darn thing! I think he was going to surprise me all with them....but couldn't wait to show me! One of those moments when you fall in love with him all over again!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! We finally got ours here in Seattle!

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I've been having to do a lot of online postings at work, and it kind of makes writing other posts less fun!

I have a quick question though: I have read all about how you should NEVER use someone else's breast pump unless it's the hospital kind that's made for multiple users. But I just got given one by a woman at my office, and here's what I'm thinking:

1)I'll buy new tubes, which won't make it completely sterile, but a little bit better.
2)It's not like I bought it used on ebay or something, I know this person doesn't have HIV or whatever.
3)It's been a year since it's been used, so wouldn't any bad germs or whatever that might be inside have died by now?
4)I'd be saving $200 by just buying new tubes instead of a new pump.

Anyone else been in a similar situation, or want to tell me how risky or safe they think it is for me to use this one?

Thank you, and congratulations to all who've found out cool info about their fruit babies this week!

Thanks everybody! You sure know how to make a girl feel good :) My poor back, just whole midtorso is so sore today. I bought a dresser at Ikea yesterday and even though I had people put it on the cart and put it in my car, I still had to bring it in the house, piece by piece, I wasn't about to push myself. I got half of it up yesterday, and I still need to finish the rest today if I feel like it :)

Breast pumps, I haven't looked at them at all. I was going to ask at my next appointment to find out if the hospital provides them, rents, them, or maybe what my doula suggests getting. It will be me and the baby for 6-7 months and I won't be going out without baby, so I don't know how much I'll use it.

I went shopping at Babies R Us. They are expensive! I did end up buying a cute outfit though, only because I had a 15% off coupon. It has pants and a long sleeved shirt with 2 owls on the front, so cute :) I don't like super boyish stuff, so I thought it was nice.

Last night I went to bed with a very hurting body and a lot of, not cramping, but pains in my lower stomach. It kept me up half the night. I knew inside that I'm just constipated because that is exactly what it feels like, but I couldn't help but worry all night. The baby didn't move a lot yesterday, at least from what I felt(it moves a lot more than I think if I pay attention and put my hand on my stomach), so of course I was sort of freaked out. I am so sore and stiff it hurt to roll over last night! I'm 99.9% sure though now that I'm up this morning, that I am indeed constipated. I'll be drinking fruit juice, eating apples, and finding fiber today.

My lovely husband did manage to hurt my feelings a little bit yesterday, but I think part of it was because I was overemotional yesterday. So, I sent him a bunch of pictures in the package, and out of the 15, he was like, I hate 5 of them. It made me sad, I had tried so hard and put the time and thought into which pictures I choose. I of course, see why he doesn't like the pictures he doesn't like, but I thought they brought back really fun moments in our life. I could tell that he realized his error after about 5 minutes and tried to make up for it, so I do appreciate that. I also figure, if our biggest problem is him not like 5 out of 15 pictures I send him, then we don't really have problems. But of course, it was a great conversation, we got to find out what we are having!

My pregnancy brain is getting worse and I was meaning to respond to more people, but I swear my brain is turning to mush. I must go eat breakfast!

Oh yeah, my sister is about 9 weeks pregnant and I talked to her last night to tell her the news, she is in that terrible m/s all day sickness stage I so remember having. I really feel for her because it wasn't all that long ago that was me! I just kept telling her that I promise she'll get past it. She also told me they will probably find out what they are having, she thinks she is an older 1st time mom(35 when she has the baby, EYE ROLL), and so she is worried about all that other stuff and says she doesn't want to have to be thinking about gender. I'm pretty excited to find out what she is having.

YAY tiff!!!! Congrats on joining team blue!! Very happy for you!! What dresser did you end up getting at IKEA?

praises - def understand the back hurting, late night bladder busting. it's weird, i don't often feel the same need to pee that i used to. i just know if it's been a while, i should try to go, and i can feel pressure, but not the same response as pre-pregnancy.

babydreams - congrats on the paint! we have ours too, and i'm in the process of taping off the baseboards & door frames. we'll paint it next week sometime. (Or i'll paint it myself wall by wall sometime soon since it's driving me crazy!)

afm - went to the beach with DH's cousin yesterday since she was in town. (we also asked her to be our LO's godmother- she was thrilled to say the least). I tried on a bathing suit since it was made for those with larger bbs. it fit perfectly!! (and didn't make me look like I have huge boobs). BUT it was $130!!! WHAT?!? So I walked away because who can afford to spend money on that when I need to get a changing table, bookshelf, etc. for the nursery. Was a little sad that it was so expensive since it fit me perfectly, and not to brag, but I rocked it even with a preggo belly...lol. we are going to Delray Beach this weekend to visit some friends, and i'm not terribly excited since I feel like we have so much to do here before school starts and I'm running out of time.

lmaguire--yeah it does feel different...like sometimes i don't even know i have to pee until i stand up. if i'm not sitting/lying down, that is another story. like last night i peed right before we left for the hospital (we were like 10 mins away at the time), then when we were waiting in the lobby for the tour to start, i went to the bathroom again, and STILL during the tour (because we were walking the whole time) i had to pee! and i had the smallest belly in the group--some of those ladies were about to pop those babies out!--so i don't know how they felt walking around. one dad came by himself because his wife was on bedrest (but 36wks though, so that's good)

rachel--i was wondering where you were! i'm not sure about the used breast pump. i did hear the same thing about not sharing. i'd say at least get your own tubes and whatnot (that's what you do when you rent a hospital one--you get to keep your tubes). i have a friend that got a used one from a friend and i'm not sure what she did but i assume she bought new tubes.

tiffany--i can tell when i'm constipated too. it is not fun. yesterday i ate a whole bag of popcorn and i think it gave me a giant gas bubble that really hurt! it was above my belly button, so i knew it didn't have to do with the babies. but it was a lot of fiber so it helped moved things along! haha TMI

jill--i must confess i am not the most organized person. however, when it comes to huge life events, somehow i kick into high gear and plan WAY ahead!! i think it's because i know i will get all stressed out if i wait till the last second and i don't want to forget a major detail! and i'm trying to get as much done in the 2nd trimester as possible since i don't know how the 3rd is gonna go.

the tour was exciting last night. i was about to tear up seeing the warming station in the hospital room because it made me think, omg this is for real! i was glad to hear that they are open to what the mother wants and they very much support rooming-in and breastfeeding, etc. they gave us a birth plan questionnaire to fill out and bring back on the big day. of course our situation might not allow us so many choices as far as delivery goes but it still made me feel comfortable. the lady that led our tour happens to be the instructor for our labor & birth classes for multiples. i can't wait to start!

Hi everyone!

Wow, so much goes on over here when you leave the country for nine days!

We got home from our long trip and long flight to Buenos Aires super late last night. It was a ton of fun, but I am still happy to be back.

Tiff -- congrats on the boy! So exciting for you to know for sure!

Jilly -- congrats on second tri!

Re: kicking -- I definitely have been feeling the baby move for the past week and a half. It started on exactly the first day of week 16. At first I thought it was gas, though it definitely felt a little different. Then I started noticing patterns -- the movements would usually be when I am laying still and/or approximately 30 minutes after eating. I am totally making this part up, but I sort of imagine I'm feeling movement after eating because my food is making its way across the placenta to the baby. Who knows!

As for me, I've brought back a cold from my trip to the southern hemisphere, which shouldn't be surprising seeing as it's winter there and I have a tendency to develop colds on long plane rides. I called my doctor who said she is only concerned if I develop a fever. So far all I have is a slight cough and a throat that is more sore at night. Also, in other weird news, I've thrown up twice in the past two weeks, which is bizarre seeing as I had no vomiting during the first tri. But, this is also not something of concern to my doctor, so that's fine. It might also be travel related since I've been on three trips in two weeks.

I have a question for the group: Where will you/have you registered? I'm making my way through parts of the Baby Bargains book and I've been contemplating a place to register. Babies R Us seems convenient but a little expensive. Amazon is great except for the whole having to ship things back piece which is causing me to probably not register there. Buy Buy Baby is nearby, so that's an option. I don't know about a pricier place, like Pottery Barn Kids, because I would rather go with something that has greater variety, but I also suppose we'll probably have two registries. I'd love to hear what you did and why!

Ready--welcome back! I just started skimming through Baby Bargains myself. I had already chosen Target and BRU. Target because its cheaper and they are everywhere. BRU because they have more available in the store and we just got one closer to our house, which is great since I'm reading they have a better return policy than Target. Amazon and Walmart are cheaper but an online-only registry doesn't sound appealing to me and Walmart's selection in-store sucks. I heard BBB is great but ours is far away and they are just now building one closer. I'm not even attempting to register at a fancy place because I wouldn't spend that much personally, so I can't imagine others would but I'm sure some people do! I think having 2 registeries is manageable, that's what we did for our wedding.

Ow, ow and ow. Couldn't sleep in like I was hoping to because my hips, tailbone and knees hurt like crazy. Feels like growing pains! Tried changing position because that usually helps but not today. So I tried lying on my back for a few mins to see if I could feel movement. Still nothing yet. I can't wait to see them Monday!!! Feels like forever since my NT scan, which DH didn't get to go to, so I'm really excited for him to see them again!!

Praises, poor you for the Ouches! Sounds like your ligaments are busy softening away, which is good news for the birth but is sore while its happening.

Not much news here but thought I would check in. I took eve swimming today and although I could just about squeeze into my swimsuit with my new, even mroe ample boobs (I was an F cup before) when my husban suggested I packed a crowbar to get me into it I thought I should consider a maternity suit! I lucked out as I went to Mothercare and got a suit half price in the sale £12.50, and they had buy one get one free on sale items, so I also got some maternity pyjamas. The suit was the last one in the sale left and was in my size and a colour I love. I didnt look great in it but I think thats nore to do with ym body than anything else. Silk purse and sows ears and all that... ;-)

Anyway, I got to the pool pleased with ym bargain only to find that pregnancy brain had struck and I had forgotten Eve's suit. I tried to convince her to go in in her underwear but she was having none of it. So I ended up haring up to the pool shop with eve in just her pants and me in a tankini top and linen trousers to buy her an £8 suit, almost wiping out my earlier savings. It was an expensive swim ;-)

Other mroe exciting news is that I think we have decided on a name. We aren't telling anyone here as we think it is enough that they know the sex so early, but I am almost certain she is going to be Anna. We don't have a middle name yet but we are looking at our great grandmother's names as Eve is Eve Elizabeth and we both had great grandmas with that name. We have Frances Mae, Emma Eleanor (although my SIL is Emma), Polly and Annie Margaret to choose from (my middle name is Margaret).

I quite liked Eleanor anyway and Eleanor/Ellen was on my list but not DHs so seemed like the obvious choice, but DH doesn't think it flows. Anna Mae also sounds nice. We were thinking of using Linda as a middle name as DH lost an aunt a few years ago with that name and her son isnt planning children, but it really doesn't go with Anna I don't think.

Any ideas welcome, but if hubby doesn't like any of those names then maybe we will have to go back to the drawing board. I quite fancy a longish classic name (Francesca and Catherine were in my head but I have an aunty catherine) as it will go with eve Elizabeth but think a one syllable option would also go nicely. Decoisions decisions. It's nice to be able to tell our secret somewhere!

Also, I think it's pretty cool that both of our girls will have names that are spelt the same backwards as forwards. The palindrome sisters doen't have much of a ring to it though...

Hope everyone else is well. Im afraid I can't help with registries because we obviously have different shops here and also we don't tend to do registries in the UK. Not sure why, it sound slike a great way to get kitted out for the baby's arrival. Maybe I should start a trend ;-) When Eve was born I got about 20 bunches of flowers and a bunch of cuddly toys. They were lovely but my house looked like a cross between a toy shop and a florists. I got hardly any clothes or useful stuff.

Lorna--I really want a maternity swimsuit too! I've been dying to go swimming, but its been too hot to even do that!! 104 degrees- sorry, I don't know what that is in celsius! I like Anna. With Linda you could shorten it to Lynn so it could work, but might not have the same sentimental value to it.

Update on my armpits-because I know you're dying to know, lol- I switched back to the Tom's Natural deo in case the Dove made me break out for some reason, and the acne cleared up! Now I'm afraid to use the Dove again even though its so freakin hot outside and that stuff works really well.
I am in clean-out mode...trashed a bunch of stuff from the bathroom cabinets, getting rid of papers we don't need from our filing, and I'm going to donate some clothes. As usual I'm in the mood for some kind of frozen chocolate drink.

Praises - I dont know what 104 degrees is in celcius either, but I do know it is hot! In that weather I would buy a maternity swimsuit and would just wear it around the house and just pop outside every now and then to douse myself under a hosepipe ;). In fact, in that weather I may even wear it to work and the supermarket.

Sounds like you have had a productive day despite the heat.

Rita - congrats on joining the second trimester board. I am fairly new here too and just getting my head around the fact that I am officially in the easiest trimester.

Tiffany1
07-30-2011, 06:34 PM
Lorna-If this is the easiest trimester, than boy am I in trouble! My back constantly hurts. When I get up in the morning I can barely move my whole hip/back area is so sore and stiff, and is most of the day too. I hate to find out what it will be like once I get bigger!

Nothing else to report, just tired as always, and achy. Oh, and the heartburn, how could I forget that. Regardless, I am enjoying the fact that I'm pregnant and that there is a little boy growing stronger every day inside of me :)

I am so ready to be done with school, I just want to do what I want every day! Ha! This is really my last chance, I am husband free and child free and here I am wasting, well not wasting, my days away working on school, ugh. Maybe if I actually just worked on it when I was working on it instead of everything else I do when trying to work on it, I might actually finish sooner, huh?

Tiffany, I have backache too, but it comes and goes. Sounds like you are suffering much more. I am thinking about going to see an osteopath. Its a very gentle treatment and apparently perfectly safe in pregnancy as long as you go to someone properly qualified. We have a pregnancy specialist here in Sheffield so I think I will give it a go.

I know what you mean about nto working. I am the queen of procrastination. I find that I do everything right to deadline.

Right, must shoot as it is almost midnight and boy do I need some beauty sleep!

praises: I totally misunderstood you! I thought you were talking about like lymph node pain, you know pain *inside* your armpits. In any case, I'm glad you got it cleared up. Oh the weird things pregnancy does!

Tiffany: Sorry about the backache. The only suggestion I would have is some nice gentle yoga?

ready: That's pretty early to feel kicking. I hope i get to feel my lemon kicking that soon! As for registries, I don't know if I'm going to register, because the things I want (like a co-sleeper, a moby wrap, a bugaloo backpack diaper bag, and fuzzibuns cloth diapers/accesories) are all sold at different places!

lorna and rita: I'm so glad you're both here! The 2nd tri board is starting to look more like the 1st tri board 5 weeks ago, so that makes me more comfortable. :)

AFM: I feel very fortunate that this woman at work is giving me so much stuff! Not just the breast pump, but also a crib, a high chair, and a changing table. I haven't seen any of the stuff, but unless it's unsafe, I'll totally use it! I'll take free and ugly any day over cute and expensive. The only thing I really need to check on is the crib. I know they just outlawed those drop-side cribs, so I wouldn't use it if it's one of those.

In other good news, my headache of three days finally went away. And I slept about 9 hours last night, so that was great. As for sleeping, I wake up with sore shoulders from sleeping on my side several times a night. Any advice? I'm not very comfortable on my back, because it makes my back hurt the whole day afterward. (I used to be a stomach sleeper, but have mostly had to give that up.) I use a body pillow on my side, but the shoulder that gets laid on always hurts, and sometimes my hand falls asleep? Anyone else have the same problem and find a solution?

Edit: Alright, after a little research, I have found that Summer's Eve makes a powder that is supposed to help with this. Is this safe to use, especially during pregnancy? I don't want to risk anything, especially since I don't have problems with UTIs or anything, I don't want to start something I may regret.

I have a strange symptom and I'm hoping you may have some ideas. I've noticed that this pregnancy, especially the last month or more, I sweat through my underwear, no joke. It's kind of embarrassing because sometimes it will reach my pants. If it is bad enough and I'm home I just change my underwear. Is there some kind of powder do you think I could get for this that might help? I've never had this problem before. Of course I've always had the excessive sweating under the pits, but not the groin area.

I've had the crotch sweat- totally gross. But it's a HOT summer so we have to give ourselves a bit of a break. I usually just use baby powder after each pee and change my undies several times a day.

Jillybn32
07-31-2011, 11:39 AM
Tiffany and Land - Lol to the crotch sweat. I haven't had any, but then, I am much earlier on than you two and I live in the great Pacific Northwest so everyone else is sweltering and we are just mild as can be :)

Rachel - I often get a sore shoulder too, just on one side. I haven't found anything to help other than to try to sleep on the other side as much as possible to give it a rest. Great find on the baby stuff from your coworker, anything free is better than buying it!

Rita - Yay for the 2nd tri!!

Praises - I'm thinking of using Tom's deodorant, too. I usually use dove, but don't have any problems with acne from it. I remember using Tom's in the past and it didn't seem to work as well, like you said. I've also tried to research deodorant and pregnancy and nothing seems unsafe about it, but figure why not give Tom's a go again and see how it works? Good luck on your level 2 scan tomorrow! I'll be looking to see how it goes and so fun to find out the gender!

Lorna - Anna is really cute. I tend to like Eve, too. I think that is also a really cute name. I don't blame you for not telling others of your names, some things have to be kept to yourself during pregnancy! I am weird and even though it was exciting to tell everyone I was pregnant, part of me didn't like it because it was our special thing when only dh and I knew.

Ready - I have not registered yet. I think when I do I'll do it at Target and Babies r us since those are really the only two in my area. Not sure when I will register. I am really weird and not wanting to do anything with the babies until I know they are viable. I am really nervous/scared something will go wrong.

Imaguire - Hope you can find a swimsuit more reasonably priced! Wouldn't it be nice to have a ton of money and buy all that stuff, haha.

Megzy - Where did you get your maternity bra? I think I may need some more. I love to hear of good finds!

Babydreams - Glad you got the paint all set up. I want to do things like that so bad, but I need to wait until I get further along.

Hope you are all having a good Sunday!

Jill--thanks!! Well the 12 hr Tom's doesn't work--more like 12 minutes!! I use the 24 hr one and that gets me through the day, but doesn't keep me stink free till the next morning like Dove. The whole aluminum thing is so debatable but with my PCOS dx, I switched to more natural products because I freaked out about chemicals but I've calmed down and just figured it would be most important during pregnancy, so I'm trying to deal with the deo--its just the summertime when its hard to do.

Tiffany--I've been more sweaty down there too, especially with this heat. I wear panty liners every day anyway so that helps. I hate the feeling of wet undies.

Hi all! Mercy, you miss so much around here in a week! My dad came for a visit for the first time since 2006. It was fun:) He hunts, so I made him a hunter's cake (bottom layer had camo and I made antlers to stick in the top layer). We had such a great visit! I had no idea how far behind I'd get on here though!

Welcome to those of you who have jumped over from the first trimester boards!

Crotch sweat - it is GROSS, but it has been a reality for me lately as well. I use panty liners too. That and spotting happens every now and then for me still, which is no fun.

Pains - On Thursday I couldn't stand up straight for a while, I had the worst tugging and pulling pains in my abdomen. But, it's better now. I figure it comes with the territory. Acne under your arms?!?!? That has got to be horrible! I'm so sorry praises.

I think the weather is breaking a bit where I am. I hope it is cooling up a bit for the rest of you as well.

Oh, I think I've been feeling Luke move this last week - could be wishful thinking though:) And speaking of boys, congratulations Tiffany!

Tiffany: I used to get awful crotch sweat. (I think there was something wrong with me, because I used to sweat through all of my shirts as well.) I would sometimes wear not one but TWO panty liners, not one on top of the other, but one all the way to the front, and one all the way to the back, so that it was like one super duper long liner, to catch ALL the sweat. I hate wet undies too.

So that's what I recommend first. But if you are prone to yeast infections, know that wearing a liner everyday can make that more likely. But you can even avoid that, if you just take your underwear off entirely when you get home at night, and wear skirts to air it all out down there. As a bonus, my DH *loved* it that I'd be laying on the couch in a skirt with no undies on and my legs splayed out to either side.

I also use cornstarch sometimes to prevent crotch sweat if it's going to be a hot day or if I'm going to be sitting in a meeting for a long time. That works well too, and it avoids any kind of wetness-induced heat rash. But please, please, make sure you use CORNSTARCH, not TALC POWDER. Talc powder applied in the genital area is associated with increased rates of ovarian cancer. And not that any of them are, but ovarian cancer is really a cancer you do NOT want to mess with.

This also goes for any of you who will be using baby powder on your baby girls' butts. Make sure it's not talc!

But really, Tiffany, between the panty liners and the cornstarch, you should really be able to reduce this problem a LOT. Good luck! Let us know how it works out!

I ended up buying some Vagisil powder, which is talc free. I don't think pantiliners would help my problem. The sweating more starts at the edges of the underwear and works in, like in the creases, not the actual vaginal area. So I guess, to be raw about it, the mid crack from butt to front isn't the problem. So far the Vagisil seems to be working just fine though. I just feel weird using it. I've never used feminine products like this before and in all honesty, I would be a little embarrassed if my husband or any other family member knew I was using it. On the plus side, at least the sweat doesn't smell. Thanks for everyone's suggestions! It really made me not feel alone in this strange pregnancy thing.

praises - Im wondering whether the deodorant you were using caused an allergic reaction...Hence the acne. Pregnancy does do strange things like that. I just hope it doesnt come back.

Rach - I like the idea of no undies when getting home. I generally sleep with no undies on anyway but im sure DH would like if i wandered around the house with no undies on as well.
Also thanks for the heads up on the talc powder...I didn't know that...I hope the baby powder we got doesnt have talc in it. You would think that they would take it out being a risk but ya never know.

AFM - The weather is finally starting to warm up here....The weekend was lovely and actually got to spend some time outside in the sun. I wonder how long it will last....Since theres still another month of winter left im not sure...Either that or spring has hit us early...Which doesnt worry me at all.
For some reason last night i kept waking up in drenched in sweat. So i would throw the covers off and end up freezing cold 5 minutes later so put the covers back on and end up hot again.....Couldn't win either way.
All that in between LO trying to escape through my belly button. I think shes starting to turn.
We actually seen her kicks vibrating on my stomach the other day which was cool. Even DH got to see it. (Sorry if I have posted this I cant remember if i did or not....Damn Pregnancy brain). Also found too if shes awake and have the tv on she kicks harder when theres louder things on...We were watching a movie on Friday night and everytime there was loud she would start kicking...Then when it was on quiet scenes she would stop. Going to see if this works with music too.

Hi ladies! Geez you miss a lot in just 2 days!

Yes, the crotch sweat combined with the lovely discharge is crazy! Not a big fan. Can't wait til it cools down a bit, which in FL won't be until October...ugh.

jth - it's exciting to think you're feeling the baby, and you probably are. i started feeling Michael move about then too. =)

praises - can't wait to hear the genders tomorrow!!! have fun at your level 2 scan! I have another one around 28 weeks to check the placental placement, although I'm not sure my anatomy scan was truly a level 2 scan.

tiff - i feel you on the back, hip, shoulder pain!!! and now it's starting to take some serious effort to flip sides during the night, which i absolutely have to do at least a handful of times every night. i can only imagine what it's going to be like in a few more weeks when we hit the third trimester!! can you believe that??! only 4 more weeks! how's school going??

ALERT!!! - Target is having a huge clearance sale on this past season's baby stuff!! We picked up a changing table for $24 (originally $100)!! Granted it isn't white, but we can paint it and still spend less money than we would have. We also got a rotatable swing for $50 (originally $100). Anyone having girls, they have a TON of car seat/stroller sets on clearance, some for as little as $50. I would def check my local Target.

sorry I couldn't do more personals. Hope everyone had a FANTASTIC weekend!

There is a travel system at Target that I really want. It is from Baby Trend and a jogging stroller. It is $209, and I will get it eventually, I was just hoping it would go on sale :/ I was reading online that Target puts their baby stuff on sale in July, but I haven't had any luck. I was just at Target yesterday and didn't see anything on clearance really. I'm waiting oh so patiently for the Baby Bargains book I ordered off of half.com way back on July 22, ugh. I want to go through it and make a list before I go to Target and make my registry. Is anyone else nervous the the gender scan was wrong? I haven't actually seen the ultrasound, except for what I could see over a webcam, and part of me is staring to get worried that I'll buy all this boy clothes and it will end up being a girl! I just don't know how much I trust that tech guy I had and my doctor can't read the gender from a scan at all. I'll post the ultrasound after my husband sends it back to me.

lmaguire--i read that the anatomy scan=level 2 ultrasound, so it should be the same. thanks for the head's up on Target! i'm definitely going shopping next weekend because our new Babies R Us is having its grand opening sale AND it's tax-free weekend in NC and i just found out diapers and some other baby stuff qualify!!!! we picked out a backpack that we're going to use as a diaper bag so we want to buy that since it's a school supply and will be tax free.

rachel--i heard you should use pure cornstarch on babies because talcum powder is not good for them to breathe in or something too.

tiffany-- that Baby Bargains book is pretty helpful. they come out with a new one every year, so it's great that it's updated.

omg my allergies have been acting up the past two days! i hope this is not going to be a continuous thing. and i always seem to get a bit constipated on the weekends...it's like my body is not on a routine or something..lol. tummy is not happy right now. i really don't want to feel uncomfortable during that scan since it's going to be so long!

Tiffany Ė Congrats on the boy! Thatís exciting, I bet your DH is thrilled! I hope you can find a solution to minimize the aches and pains of pregnancy. Hope school is going well. I am a procrastinator too, but trust me it feels soooo good when youíre done. I graduate with my masters in 2 weeks and I am so thankful that Iím done. Itís so much work when youíre doing it and itís hard to picture the end, but then when itís done you will feel so good about your accomplishment. Keep it up!

Praises Ė Glad you found a solution to the armpit pain! Sounds miserable. Canít wait to hear about your ultrasound!

Lorna Ė Sounds like an expensive trip to the pool! At least you got a good bargain on your suit! Gotta love pregnancy brain, that sounds like something I would do! I like the name Anna Mae. I thought everyone did gift registries, you should definitely start a trend there! Itís so nice to be showered with gifts :)

Rita Ė welcome!

Rachel Ė Thatís wonderful your co-worker is giving you so much baby stuff! Thatís the way to go! Weíve been offered some stuff too, I just need to venture over to a few peopleís houses and go shopping in their attics/basements! One of my co-workers offered to give me her maternity clothes as well which I am so excited about. The only advice I have about sore shoulders when sleeping is switching sides throughout the night. Iím used to sleeping on my sides so it hasnít been a problem for me, but that would be a tough change from sleeping on your stomach.

lmaguire Ė thanks for the Target alert, I will have to check that out this week!

AFM Ė I think Iím still feeling babies moving around. I felt something for the first time when I was 14 weeks, then I felt the exact same feeling the next evening when I was laying down on the couch. Since then, Iíve felt it a little bit every day, usually when laying down at night or first thing in the morning. I notice it most after an evening snack too! I thought it was too early, but Iíve talked with a couple others who felt their baby this early.

We had a graduation party over the weekend to celebrate my upcoming graduation and made our pregnancy announcement to the last few family/friends that didnít know. Then I made the big facebook announcement yesterday! Itís exciting to share the news, but Iím already bombarded with questions about the whole twins thing. Itís okay for now, but I fear it may get old soon! And people keep saying, but youíre so tiny, how are you going to carry twins? I made a bet with my friendís husband that if I gain more than 30 pounds he owes me a pack of diapers. The deal is on, he doesnít think I can do it, but I know I can!
