Porkchop will be 11mths in a few days.
She has a 'baby'..this squishy beany like thing that she falls asleep with. She loves it. But we ahve to wait till she falls asleep so we can take it out of her crib. I was wondering..if it would be alright to keep it in there even though its a month early.
Isnt it 1 yr old before they can have a blanket and animal in their bed? She already uses the blankie..but was just wondering about the baby.

Bakc when were kids Lisa people didn't care about this stuff...lol...I've caught my mum leaving plush toys in Cohen's cot from the get go. I freaked! But when I've only found it in the morning he's been ok.
Best to be safe...but...I'd say do it then I'd sneak in to get it out...lol

I hear ya. I think A will be five before he is allowed. But I have started letting him have a small pillow for naps and I swear I check on him all time. I think the pediatric association says 2 years old for pillows, heavy blankets and stuffed animals. light blankets are okay once they can hold their heads up.

I'm bad then. I cover A up with a blanket (not heavy) every night and she snuggles with her teddy bear. I do check on her before I go to bed and then she's usually up a couple hours later anyway.
huh??? i cover tyler with a blanket... (although i guess it knitted with big holes... but it's pretty big and he allows smothers his face in it....) and then i put a huge blanket over that?? am i not supposed too... i can't believe i've never heard this!!

I heard as long as they can roll over you can leave things in there because the suffocation chances decrease since they can roll away... I dunno, I guess I'm wrong... Glad Dylan doesn't have a snuggly, yet that is.. lol

I'm probably a bad mommy too. Arianna was born at the end of September 2005. Once it got cold I used a receiving blanket on her. I would tuck it tightly in the sides of her cradle. She never managed to get it close to her face. I gave her a flat pillow after she turned a year old, and she sleeps with a light weight blanket. She doesn't have a security blanket, animal or doll, but I think that's because she is a thumb sucker. Her thumb is her security for now.
The really are not supposed to have anything in their bed at Tylers age, but like I said... I did use a receiving blanket when Arianna was that young.

Tiera - It's a SIDS risk to have anything in the crib/cradle at that age. We kept A in blanket sleepers instead. They als have the blanket bags - we used those for a long time too.

Put me on the bad mommy list too. I've used a blanket (they're lightwieght) on Mason for months now. And when it's cold I'd use 2. I have those sleep sacks, and used them when he was younger, but when he'd sleep in our bed he'd wind up way too hot. This kid holds the heat!

I also use 2 fleece blankets with Ruby, but I bring them up under her armpits and then tuck snugly into both sides of her co-sleeper. She likes to have her arms out and over the blankets anyway. I had the same issue with blanket-bags as Michelle...Ruby would get hot in the night and wake up, whereas with the blankets, she can wiggle upwards and get out of them in her sleep if she gets too warm.

We have always used a crochet blanket for A - it's lightweight.

We have been afraid to give her a blanket, but she wears a warm sleeper and we use a radiator type spaceheater http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-11/qid=1169481157/ref=sr_1_11/601-6858783-3992925?ie=UTF8&asin=B000GUNBYQ which hopefully is a safe kind -- we turn it off if the room gets really warm (it's our room, too, so we know). So I don't know if I'm trading one risk for another.

Mason's blankets are a lightweight cotton blanket and then a fleece blanket. He does not like his arms covered up, never has, when I'd swadle him he'd wriggle his arms out, he sleeps with his arms up by his head. If he gets hot he kicks his covers off.

Matt has a blanket -- he absolutely loves it and has been sleeping with it for his entire life!! It's knit, so it has holes. We started him with tucking it in really tight. Now, we just throw it on him. I don't think he'd sleep without it.
Confession time -- I still have a blanket. It's blue knit with that silky material around the top and bottom edge, and it's name is Woobie. I go NOWHERE without it!!
Like mother...like son

Tracy - too funny! i went to Paris with a colleague when were in Germany on a business trip and shared a room. In the evening she pulled out tatters of what once was a blanket and put it under her pillow! I was shocked!

I guess I'm part of the bad mommies club too.. I've cover Samantha with a blanket from day 1... first I wrapped her, then started leaving it lose.. now she reaches for it to cuddle with... but then again I did start puting her to sleep on her tummy at day 2.. yep got yelled at by the nurse's but she slept better..
Then theres Rebecca, now 3 but I've let her sleep with a baby and bean bag pillow from @ age 2?

I swaddled Molly for the first two weeks but she was wiggly and managed to get out of it every time - and sometimes she'd end up UNDER the blankets so I stopped using them. And I'm a good swaddler, too - I work in the NICU after all, and everyone says my babies at work look like little burritos!
I started using the velcro "Swaddle Me" sleep sacks at two weeks and she's been sleeping 4-6 hours at a stretch every night since! I wasn't used to swaddling with her arms down - developmentally, you're supposed to swaddle babies with their hands near their face so they can comfort themselves like they did in the womb - so I wasn't sure about the sacks at first. By my gosh they work! I have two microfleece ones, a cotton jersey knit one, and a cotton flannel one. We were keeping her in a sleeper and then wrapping her but she's getting bigger so she got hot. Now we just put her in a onesie and swaddle her up - much easier for middle of the night feedings too. The way the sacks are made, you don't have to unswaddle their arms to change diapers. Molly knows that once she's in her swaddler, that it's nighttime and we mean business - eating, sleeping and THAT'S IT!!!

Eventually we'll start using the HALO sleep sacks we got at the shower, but right now she startles herself awake unless her arms are swaddled...
