Hello everyone,
I have recently had someone suggest an acupuncturist or an herbalist to see if there is something they can possibly do to help with PCOS. I am not currently on any meds but am supposed to be on BCP. I cannot tolerate what the pill does to me. I am 34 and have two very young little boys. My life on the pill is unbearable for myself and my family. I am in search of an alternative. Obviously if I cannot find anything I will somehow learn to tolerate it. The whole natural healing thing is new to me. I've always taken everything I've been prescribed and have belief in medical science. However, I am looking for just about any way to help my symptoms and try to gain some kind of control. Just curious if anyone knows anything or has had any experiences with acupuncture or herbal remedies.
Thanks- Dally 2 u

Hi Dally 2 U,
I am currently on the pill and it is the only thing that seems to work for me. I started on it when I was 15 years old primarily for acne. As soon as I get off the pill, all the horrible pcos symptoms come back.
Metformin makes me really ill, and seems to make things worse. I think I might be the very small % of people that can't take Metformin, Because my doctor was surprised I didnt lose weight or feel better. (I have tried it two different times in my life, 2 yrs apart)
I have looked into herbal remedies a little, and found a few things that have worked for ME. I'm not sure if they work for everyone, but it might be worth a try!
When I wasn't on the pill, I used to get hot flashes and night sweats really bad. I started taking "Estroven" OTC. It has natural ingredients like Black Cohosh, etc. Try the one that contains only natural herbs/ingredients.
To deal with anxiety/depression/mood I use St. John's Wort. My mom & sister use it also. I had all my woman co-workers try it one day and now they are in love with it. Especially for that time of the month when you might get a little overwelmed and grouchy.
Just recently, I was surfing the net regarding PCOS. I found this website. http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/index.php I have yet to discuss it with my Endocrinologist, but Im thinking about looking further into it. Only because it is all natural.
I firmly believe in herbal remedies because they have worked for me. They don't eliminate PCOS, but they sure do help relieve the symptoms and make life more tolerable!
I also have heard wonderful things about acupuncture, but just haven't had the time to actually GO.
I am still searching for new things and will message you if I find anything new regarding herbs or natural remedies.
Good luck!

Hi there, I have been doing both acupuncture and herbs since I was dx in July. It brought my AF back (after 6 months), and has made my cycle more regular. I also got pregnant, although I miscarried at 8 weeks. I think it is a great alternative, and is more gentle on the system. My main drawback is that it is starting to get quite pricey!

Thank you ladies so much for your insight. Some of my symptoms are still mild, but I fear not getting things under control now. I am planning to start seeing the acupuncturist and herbalist this month, had to catch up those after Christmas bills first!! I am hoping to see a noticable difference before returning to my GYN in May. I know he will not be too happy that I've gone off the BCP, but I had to have my life back. Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes !!

I go to a GREAT acupuncture specialist and I was seeing an improvement when I was going. (I am starting again on wed so I will fill you in). She really helped my stomach problems. BUT I have to tell you that she also did something called a "mayan massage" which is supposed to help fertility and PCOS and such. I did not have it but I did refer a friend that was having problems concieving. She had 7 IVF and kept having miscarriages. Well she went to her and after only 2 sessions, she was pregnant natuarally and just gave birth last week to a healthy baby boy. Both her and I know it was the acupunture and the mayan massage. What is the harm in trying it out. The worst that can happen is you have a relaxing hour to your self!
Good luck and God bless!
(any questions, just let me know! )

I have been seeing a herbalist for the last 3 months and she gets me to drink 10mls of this mixture with water twice a day (morning and evening) and so far I have had really good results, usually I would have a bit of spotting every 6 months (blink and you will miss it) but I have had 2 proper periods since being on the drink, my first period was a 69 day cycle and then the 2nd was a 42 day cycle with breast tenderness 4/5 days prior to my period starting. I am really hoping that it is balancing my hormones.
I did acupuncture, previously but it didn't work for me. Good luck with what every you decide.
