Happy New Year Mommies!!
I am looking forward to joining you in the very near future. Hopefully not too near, but close enough.
This weekend I had my Gestational Diabetes test at 26 weeks. I got my results this morning and they were at 196!!! According to all the research I have done, that seems to be pretty high.
My questions are this...
Did any of you have GD?
How did you manage your GD?
How much did your babies weigh?
Were there any complications with the baby or yourself?
Were you able to deliver vaginally?
Do you currently have diabetes?
I know that is a lot of questions for someone that has not even been diagnosed. I have my next appointment on Monday and I want to make sure that I go in with as much information as possible. Thanks ladies!!

I had GD.
I managed my gd with met and diet. It did the trick. My blood sugars were under control with only that and at the end I went off met because I had it so well controlled with diet and would occasionally have a low blood sugar.
My dd weighed 7lbs 1 oz three weeks early. She would have likely been 10 lbs if she had been to term.
I ended up with preeclampsia which the doctors attribute to the GD but I think it is due to the fact that I have antiphospholipid syndrome and they took me off of the heparin at the end when they thought I didn't have it but I did.
I delivered vaginally. I was induced three weeks early but I had been having real contractins for 3 weeks before I was induced so my labor and delivery were quick and fairly easy as labor and delivery go. I was on pitocin only 4 hours before my daughter was born.
I do not have diabetes now as far as I know. I tested for it before I was pregnant and it was negative but once you have had gd there is a 90% you will have it with other pregnancies. I think it is very likely I will have it again this time.
GD wasn't too bad for me. Before I was diagnosed and treated it I felt miserable but eating the way I was told to really worked well for me but htat isn't always the case.

Did any of you have GD? Yes
How did you manage your GD? First with diet, that did not help, then with diet and insulin shots.
How much did your babies weigh? 7lb 8.8 oz at 37 weeks and 6 days (induced labor)
Were there any complications with the baby or yourself? None
Were you able to deliver vaginally? Yes
Do you currently have diabetes? Went away right after delivery numbers were back to normal

Thank you ladies!! I am really nervous about this. I know this is managable and not the worst thing that could happen. All of the research I have done is so dramatic and makes it sound so horrible.

My case was very bad but I had to take terbutraline because she was trying to come early from 20 weeks on. By the end I was taking 600units of insulin a day and then went on a drip. Trust me not the norm at all. I was getting about 10 shots a day, I ate like a saint...well I was in the hospital I couldn't really be bad  Anyways like I said my case is very rare it did go away after I had her they gave me a 90% chance I'd be TYPE II diabetic permanently. I was psyched that it didn't stick around last A1C was 5.8.
Ireland was born at 32 weeks and she weighed 6 lbs. 0.7oz. she would've been over 12lbs. if she went full term but the doc said that's part of why she came early is she'd outgrown her "living" space. She came by emergency C-Section but only because she was in distress otherwise I would've had her vaginally.

I think my doctor gave me an 80% chance of developing type II diabetes because I had GD and PCOS.

Thank you Mara!! That was very helpful!!
I now have a lot of notes to take to my appointment on Monday and better understanding of what may lay ahead. According to my numbers and that article, I have a 67% chance of needing insulin therapy. YIKES!!
Shaylalyn: WOW!! That is quite the tale to tell. I am glad all is well now and thank you very much for sharing with me.

I see your in CA we had an awsome Repo Endo who started our PCOS clinic here in Miwaukee move to your area (not sure where) his name is DR GUVEN a nice guy.. Perhaps if in your area he can help with the after birth control.
I was GD with all 3 and delieverd 7lb 12oz 4wks early, 7lb 13oz3wks and 8lb 14oz 3wks early. My A1c are always normal but just for fun after 9mo of not testing I did a finger stick and it was 295 (fasting) so I'm thinking the type II has kicked in.... But it did take 8years and 3 pregancies to do it!
at 26wks maybe you could do it diet controlled till 36-37 weeks and deliver earily? keep us posted on what doc says
