I quit breastfeeding 4.5 mths ago. Since then if I squeeze my nipple I get a tiny...(not much) milk out. lol I know that sounds crazy doin that..but its fascinating thinkin I still have milk or whatever. Its never been alot when I have doen this. Well a few min ago..I my nipple was itching and I just happned to look down my shirt and my nipples looked big so I squeezed one and it seemed like alot more came out but thicker this time and sticky. But alot more tahn what usually comes out. SO I tried the other one and hte same thing. Is this my milk totally drying up? Usually after I squeeze out and try to squeeze again nothing else will come out..but more keeps comnig out. What is goin on????

I know you think Im a freak squeezing my own nipples! LOL! Im really not. lol

Lisa, I still have occasional discharge (I only know cause I feel the spots on my shirt when I'm not wearing a bra) and my younger ds will be 8 in March. Of course, my breasts still get full and I feel letdown when I hear a baby crying  . Sometimes I get it just looking at a baby. So it will probably be awhile till your boobs settle down!

I read somewhere that the ability to nurse is independent of being pg or nursing your own baby, once you've had a baby of your own -- that you can pretty easily stimulate milk if need be even if you haven't nursed babes in a long time. Evolution's way of making sure we could feed our young if something ever happened to a baby's mom, I guess. Plus, a mom can be on the verge of starving, but still be able to produce milk. Pretty cool stuff!

OK, Lisa, maybe you can appreciate how weird this story is. A woman I know was babysitting a friend's infant once and couldn't get him/her to settle down. The baby was screaming bloody murder so eventually this woman let the baby "nurse" (she had never had a child of her own yet). Apparently the baby calmed right down, but is that not the oddest thing you've ever heard ????

Umm....honestly..that is the nastiest thing Ive ever heard. lol
I would beat senseless someone if they tit fed my kid. We had this big debate over this very same ordeal when I was on the Pregnancy board. lol

That makes me feel better about that thne though on the leakin. It freaked me out! That is so crazy you still get it after it being so long..really interesting.

I was telling Leanna the other day how I wish I could have went long boob feeding Porkchop. But hey..theres always the next baby. lol

Lisa == let's just say that is not the first bizarre behavior this particular woman has oh-so-casually mentioned to me. What's super-weird to me is that she wasn't even feeding the kid, just letting it latch on for comfort! Sometimes I think she says this stuff just to see if she can shock me, cause I'm pretty good at keeping a poker face, lol!

I'd still make a note of it and mention it next time you see the endo -- never hurts to have them write it down in your records. I am very careful to mention all boob-related info since my mom had breast cancer in her early 40s so I'm at high risk. But I'd say that in nature's terms you're barely out of nursing mode. You'll be that much readier for the next baby!!!!

My aunt was a lactation specialist for laleeche league a long time ago and was a nurse, she said that all women and even men can lactate with enough stimulation. She says with enough attention to the breasts it can happen but can happen more for a woman who has already lactated. She nursed her 4 kids for 2+ yrs each and will now even after menopause will lactate when a baby cries.

Hey Lisa: Yeah Willow has been weaned for around 3 months and I still have milk too. DH keeps asking me how long it is going to take??? If I go without a bra, I leak sometimes too. I have no idea how long it is supposed to take. Maybe I should start taking sage again. You take like 1/4 tsp 3 times a day. It doesn't taste very good, but it is supposed to work. I forgot all about it.

Elsie - really? After 8 years? OMG that is so going to be me
It is amazing how the human body adapts. It's just like the story of the woman who's family got lost (the father didn't make it) she was already bf her 7 mo. old but bf the 4yr old while out there to keep them alive and hydrated. amazing.

TexRed == the leaking itself is very minimal -- like a teeny spot on my shirt every few months. The letdown is just a sensation, but no I don't see it going away any time soon!

Funny thing is that when I was nursing I always felt so "tapped out" that I only had letdown, etc. when one of the kids needed to eat. Now it seems I have the urge to feed the world!

BTW: my ob/gyn loves that I bf as long as I did cause it lowers my breast cancer risk dramatically.

We are amazing animals when it comes right down to it!!!

Absolutely ... it supresses estrogen and most breast tumors (esp. pre-menopausal, like my mom's was) are estrogen-driven. Btw my mom is extremely healthy 21 years later!

The longer you're pg or bfing, the better it is for your breast health! So considering that I reached my limit with two pg's, my ob/gyn is thrilled that I bf as long as I did. The benefits are pretty much endless! :D
