I read in "What to expect when you're expecting" that at 31 weeks you should have strong regular fetal movement.

But then I've read in other literature that baby is sleeping most of the time and not as active.

conflicting messages much?
what have you experienced?

Each baby is different and each mama feels different things. Some babies are just more active than others. Some are active, what seems like, all the time and others only at certain times of day. Some have the placenta in front so while they may be active you may not feel them as much.

When my doctor told me is to pay attention to my baby's movement and patterns and if is changes drastically or stops then to lay down and drink something sweet and do a kick count and make sure are feeling normal movement for your baby. Sometimes you just don't notice when you are up and moving around or focusing on something else. But their biggest point was it's most important to be aware of what your used to feeling your baby do. That will slow down toward the end because baby gets too big to move as much but if there is a drastic change it's best to do a kick count and if things still seem off, check. But babies do sleep and stay still or have small movements you can't feel so baby not being super active all the time can be completely normal.

All of my kids have been different. I think that's why there is the conflicting information. Some were active all the time, others were active sometimes and not others. Some have really strong movements while others had weaker movements. It really is different with every kid.
