it is my understanding that PCOS can never "go away" it will always be an issue and will always need to be monitored closely due to the other health problems that it can contribute to....diet is a big portion of controlling it though....talk to your doctor to determine if you need meds....alot of women do not treat their after they are done having children but my doc does not recommend this....he told me that even if i don't have another i will still need to be monitored and probably on at least the MET

And some of us didn't even have symptoms of pcos until after babies ... like me.

I found a great new web resource today you might want to check out -- the univ. of chicago pcos research ctr. It explained a lot of things in a way that I hadn't understood before.

Hi.
I'm on my 3rd pg and had trouble getting pg with first, but was 22. The insurance had began checking us out, following our progress, but by the time I got to them, I had become pg. We didn't get followed AT ALL after that. No diagnosis.
Skip 7 years up, virtually no birth control, and finally a 2nd pg. Again, happened to "fall" pg, so no diagnosis. By then I was 30.
Now, I'm 34. Was diagnosed with PCOS this year at 33, in April. After reading up on it and studying it, I an look back and see symptoms. They definitely got worse with time. I KNOW if I want to get pg again (I always wanted 4 kids) I will have to be monitored very carefully.
My symptoms were unique to me, just like yours are unique to you. I began gaining weight, then would work hard to lose a few pounds only to see them creep back on plus. I finally got Met at my highest weight ever. I ended up losing 20 lbs relatively quickly. But more than that, I saw a difference in my motivation and mood. I had been suffering with mood swings and depression here and there, and mostly was even keeled after Met. I had no idea how much insulin resistance could affect your moods, too.
After being off of Met for the last 12-13 weeks, I can honestly say I've had way worse mood swings and terrible depression! I can't wait to have the baby and go back on Met!!!!! At least it will aide in the weight and mood department ;)

Honestly, talk to your RE, not the OB unless they helped diagnose you. I agree with the other women, I do feel cheated out of years of treatment, and knowing it's a condition that will be with us the rest of our lives, it can cause other painful and debilitating disorders: high blood pressure, heart disease, etc . . . perhaps left untreated!!
I'd also go to the link for women WITH PCOS but who are not trying to concieve, as they may have more info and advice on the matter for you. I know I'll be checking in there more after the baby is born. Especially since I'm not getting any younger!
