So I have my first RE appointment on the 13th with these people. Anyone else been tot hem? They have a great website, ivf.com, and that was 95% of what sold me on going to them. Would love feedback about them though if anyone has any.

Hey Kristi...
I'm in Marietta! Nice to see another "peach" out there. I've not actually been to GA Repro, but have heard many wonderful things about them.
I was going to ACRM (Atlanta Center Repro Med) for a while, but just couldn't handle the stress of ttc with clomid, hcg injections, etc. I stopped, started acupuncture and was pregnant in about six months (4 cycles). Am due 5/29 with a little boy.
Will probably have to return to ACRM or GA Repro after the baby is born for PCOS maintenance or to ttc #2. Both are fantastic, so I wouldn't be worried a bit. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the info! Yeah, my gyno wanted me to go to ACRM, but my insurance doesn't cover them.
I'm actually in the Cumberland area myself. It is nice to know there are other cysters in the area!

Kristi:
I LOVE GRS! I have been going to them since November '04 and they have really helped us out a lot -- diagnosis, treatment, etc. They are as proactive as you want them to be and will help and guide you every step of the way. They explain everything to you, in "normal person" terms.
Which Dr. are you scheduled to see? Email me if you have any questions, heck, we just might see each other there and not even know it. LOL
I also go to acupuncture and have been doing that for over a year now. But with PCOS and endo...getting pregnant is taking me a while.
Best wishes,
Ashlee

Hi, I am a patient at GRS. I started seeing Dr. Sills after being diagnosed with PCOS and having unsucessful IUIs and surgery with an OB/Gyn. I live almost 2 hours away, but I drove up there to see him--and after just three months, I was pregnant!! Samuel is our miracle baby!! :-) Since then, I have followed up with Dr. Sills to continue to treat my PCOS symptoms, and I'll begin using him again for fertility if necessary as well. I can't say enough good things about them--the whole staff ROCKS!!

I'll be seeing Dr Conway on Wednesday. Man, that paperwork for a first time patient is amazing, lol! I'm still filling it out! And I'm about to beat the DH if he doesn't get on his end of it, lol!
Oh, and the DH will be having his semen ananlysis there as well while we're there. He is NOT looking forward to that! I keep trying to explain that his part in this whole production is much more fun than mine! I mean, I get poked, prodded and bled....he gets to have an enjoyable time, lol!
Are all men nervous about this part?

I don't know about all men, but my DH was nervous about his. He got to take his cup home, because he had his done down here at our OB's office--they let him take it home, and then he brought it back to their office immediately. Tell your DH he'll be fine--to just relax and enjoy himself LOL!! I guess if I were a man, I'd feel a bit put-on-the-spot, too, though. Now one thing about my DH--I went around telling his numbers to people--I didn't think anything of it--I was telling my follicle sizes, how many milligrams of Clomid that I was taking, etc., so I didn't think it was a big deal. It turns out, though, some men seem to attach their sperm count with masculinity or something--so I'd watch for that and make sure you don't embarrass him--I felt real badly about that
The doctor you are going to see is new since I was going--I don't know him/her. I just know Sills and Perloe--and I love both of them, so I'm sure the one you're going to will be just as fantastic! :-)

Thanks, I'll let him know he's not the only one who feels this way, lol! Both of our families have been picking on him about this ever since we found out he had to go! I guess that hasn't helped.
Dr Conway is one of the women up there, the other is Dr Kaplan. It sounds like it will be an extensive appt, supposed to last about 2 hrs or so, so I'm really looking forward to talking about everything!

Dr. Conway did my lap in March! She is great! However, I typically see Dr. Kaplan at Meridian Office. Both women are wonderful Drs. Like the other poster said...the whole staff ROCKS! You will get loads of information when you go and feel like you are on the right track.

I went and the experience was not that good. I got very little follow-up and felt like they had too many patients to give me the time and attention needed. Pray and let the Lord lead you to where you need to be. I had Dr. Shapiro.

Maybe that's why there isn't a Dr. Shapiro there now?

Hi I am in Conyers, Ga. and will have my first appointment with Dr. Perloe on the 22 of April. I am very excited and hope that this helps us. I had a baby in Feb. but he olny lived 7 days. My placenta abrupted during delivery and the doctor refused to do a C-setion until almost an hour later. Anyway that is another story for a later time. You can see my beautiful son at his web-site if you like, it is www.thecloudwalker.net/andrew
As for Dr. Perloe and his group, I have met them at a PCOSA Conference and they are extremly nice and knowledgeable!!.
Anyone else in my area?

Hi everyone, I am in Palmetto, south of Atlanta.
I went to Dr. Perloe before I got pregnant with my first child. I think He is very knowledgable about pcos but I thought he had NO bedside manner what so ever. He yelled at his nurses, one was his wife, several times that I was there and when I had my miscarriage he was very uncaring. But, I did get pregnant, and I guess thats my whole reason for going there!

I have been going to GRS for the past year or two and am also a patient of Dr. Perloe. I can definitely attest to the fact that he has NO bedside manner. I got the feeling that if I wasn't interested in IVF then I wasn't important. He really pushes IVF. He's very knowledgeable about PCOS though so maybe that's why so many of us go to him. After my last experience with them though, I will not be going back.
And whatever you do, don't tell him that you aren't on a low carb diet (whether you are or not), he tends to get pretty rude about that!
Good luck!

Hi I live in Covington, GA and have recently found this forum from a search I did on PCOS. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago due to a visit to my physician because I had gained about 70 lbs in a very very short period of time due to no fault of my own. After countless tests and visits to an endocrinologist and nutritionists they came to the consensus that I had PCOS. At that point in time not much information was available to me via the internet about treatment options, so my endocrinologist prescribed Meridia (a weight loss medication) which in turn caused me to have panic attacks and my blood pressure to sky rocket. I stopped that medication and also stopped visiting that endocrinologist and nutritionist and physician. I was on birth control at the time and decided to stop that too although I was only 20 and was not trying to get pregnant with my husband.
My husband and I decided that since I may have problems getting pregnant when I feel my time comes, that we just would not let birth control hinder any chance that I may have since we were married and stable enough to have a baby at any time. Well just last January I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl with a clean bill of health. I currently am using a non-hormonal IUD to prevent pregnancy for the time being because I do want to get within a healthy weight before getting pregnant again. I weighed 267 lbs when I got pregnant and am currently down to 238 but still far from my goal. When I met my husband at 18 I weighed 170 or a little less and wore size 8/9 juniors. In two years I had jumped to 230 and most of that weight gain was within a summer. I have clothes in my closet still that are size 9 and then it jumps to size 16 and that is a large jump considering I never bought a size 12 or 14- so you see this was not gradual.
Well, long story of my life, but I guess I just needed to get it out....I have recently gained the strength to talk a new physician about PCOS and have recently started to take Metformin (glucophage) to see if it will help me in my battle with obesity, excessive hair growth, and all the health problems that come with obesity. I am only 24 and feel like I'm 50+. I haven't noticed any changes but I am sticking to my exercise and healthy eating in hopes that this medication will help. I have visited www.vaniqa.com and will discuss this creme with my physician next visit to help combat facial hair. I am just afraid that if I dont start feeling better physically and emotionally that I will need to go into treatment for severe depression. I know I am depressed, but looking at my 15 month old daughter's smile just keeps the light in my tunnel. :D I love being a mother and want to love myself in order to set a good example for my daughter so that she can love herself. If anyone out there shares similar problems and would like someone to talk to---I know I need someone to talk to and I am not going to be afraid anymore because this is not my fault. Thanks for reading my story

OK, I went to GRS and saw Dr. Sills on May 13. I was very pleased with him, but it seems that we need to get my blood work back before we can really start talking treatment. They gave me a card that has a web address on it to get my results online. I check it all the time and still nothing listed. How long did it take you others to get your blood work results back? I'm getting very impatient

I don't remember how long it took--but I remember I had to call them--I never could get the results to come up on the computer. Our process was--initial visit, then visit with cd 2 Pap/Pelvic and blood work, then follow up where he put me on Metformin, and set up an HSG, then I went in for the HSG, then, I was told to wait three months for my body to get on the Met, and we'd see what happens from there. I got pregnant the cycle after the HSG, though, so I was only on met for 12 weeks. Once I wean my son, I'll go back to Dr. Sills for a follow-up (I went to one a few weeks postpartum, but he won't touch me till we wean), and will probably go back on Met from there (depends on blood work, I'm sure).
I understand your impatience--I hope it doesn't take too long!
HUGS!!!

I found that I was really unable to pull my information off of the web also. However, I did not have any trouble using the automated system. Hope all goes great for you.

Hi,
My name is Jenna and I live in Atlanta. I am 25 years old (soon to be 26) next month and I wanted to join a support group to help me with PCOS. I was actually diagnosed with PCOS in 2000, but was never treated for it. I was taking Metformin and it make me REALLY REALLY sick. So, I stopped.
I did go to GRS one time, but I didn't feel they really gave me any attention. My doctor was Dr. Perloe. I guess if you're not there to become a mother, then you don't really matter. I don't know, but my insurance company had alot of issues with them billing me for incorrect procedures.
Anyway, this was in 2004, I'm trying to find out if anyone has recently gone there and only went to treat their PCOS...not for infertility?

I did not have a positive experience with GRS; however, since I've left their practice I've been referred to them by 3 different people... they didn't know I had already been there. I think it's a personal decision.
I highly recommend Reproductive Biology Associates though.
