Does anyone know if removal of the ovaries will end/cure the lifelong symptoms and risks of PCOS?

Thank you.

No ovaries automatically puts you into menopause, which caries it's own risks. Even though our hormones aren't properly working, they are still producing something. Inducing menopause will mean you need to be on estrogen replacement therapy, which greatly increases your cancer risk, as well as many other health conditions.

From what I understand, the issues with our ovaries are a SYMPTOM of pcos, not the cause. Therefore, removal of the ovaries would not help with pcos related issues.

PCOS has nothing to do with if you have ovaries. There is no cure for PCOS, simply the treatment of of "symptoms" PCOS in an endocrinology disorder, not a reproductive disorder. The problems with ovaries are simply one of the most common symptoms/indicators of PCOS.

I agree with the previous posters....and I've always wondered why they call it polycystic ovary syndrome. It's very misleading.

I had an ovary removed this past spring. One of the questions i asked my dr was would this improve my sympthoms and he said no ... I saw a pcos specialist in Oct and she told me the same thing.
