Just wanted to see if any of you had gotten pg by taking Femara or Femara and Met? If so, what other methods/treatment had you tried before taking Femara?

This gives me hope for ttc #2. Dr said that we would probably start off with femara. 1st time we conceived after a few rounds of clomid/met/& added estrogen. Good luck!

Does anyone know what the benefits of femara are over clomid? I did clomid sorta only 3 pills this time but am considering all options if we try for number 3. Also been trying to find something to help me O while I breastfeed even if I had to pump and dump for a few days but most I have looked up like clomid say they will actually decrease milk supply so not sure what I could use but would want to start trying asap safely.

The only two things I know about Femara and the reason why I chose it is that it doesnt thin your lining like Clomid and the side effects where no where near like Clomid. But Im sure the side effects can be different for everyone.

I second what LM said. I achieved pregnancy twice with Femara. First time was first round...I ovulated late and the embryo didn't develop, so I had to have a D&C. The second time it took two rounds of Femara, but it worked and I have a happy and healthy 6 week old boy now.

wanting - Femara does help you to have a thicker uterine lining than Clomid so, I believe it decreases the risk of m/c. It also doesn't have the negative effect on your CM. In fact I had tons of it for the first month...I never knew you could have that much! It also has a short 1/2 life, meaning it doesn't stay in your system long (24 hours if I remember correctly), so it is gone by the time that you O.
As far as taking while BF, I'm not sure if that is a contraindication, but I know it is definately not safe to take when you are pg - it can cause birth defects.
I've never taken Clomid, so I can't compare the witchyness, but I did have about 4 days around 0 where no one wanted to be near me!
Thanks everyone - all the positive responses are keeping my hopes up and maybe in another 9 or 10 months I'll be joining you on the Mom's board!!! :D

I def. need to go with femara next time around. My lining was so thin with clomid, and I was even on estrogen to help counteract that. I was so disappointed with my last ttc u/s because I had a great egg, but doc said my lining was so thin that it would probably bust right through. But to everyone's surprise I did get pregnant with that thin lining and as soon as we conceived, it thickened right up! So even if you get a little bad news like that, try not to let it get you down. You will get p/g when you least expect it!
Wildflower - I sort of got pg on Femara. I had tried 9 mos of Clomid, including an IUI w/ no success. I tried a month w/ just met, no success. I tried Femara & met, and on the 2nd month got pregnant, but m/c at 6 wks. I tried Femara & met w/ IUI 3-4 more times, no success. I had a cyst, so I couldn't take the femara, but stayed on the met & IUI and got pregnant. The Femara was a huge improvement from the clomid for me - less side effects and better ovulatory cycles. Even though I got pregnant on a month "off" from the Femara, I think it was the latent effects that helped. I don't ovulate on my own almost ever, but I ovulated well on femara, and even on a month off, it seems like I would ovulate again (did this twice). I'm pretty small and sensitive to medicine, so I'm thinking that next time, I'll try one month on followed by one month off Femara to see how it works. Another tid bit, on the Femara cycles when I did not get pregnant, they used an HCG shot to trigger ovulation when my follicle got to the right size (my follicles tended to get larger than normal if I waited to ovulate on my own). However, both cycles when I did get pregnant, I did not use the HCG shot and just allowed my body to ovulate on its own, which was usually late (day 19'ish) w/ bigger follicles. But, that seemed to work for me.
I am in PA also, and I've lived all over the state - where are you?
Good luck!
PS: I forgot to mention that the 2nd time I got pregnant (on the month "off" of Femara), it worked, and my little blessing of a son will be 2 months old tomorrow!

nut - I'm in South Central PA.
Well sounds like the 2nd cycle is a winner for lots of you. Lets hope it is for me too! Still waiting to O at this point. Got my fingers crossed!
Best of luck wildflower! I currently live in southwestern PA, and I used to live in southeastern PA, and I went to school in central PA....but I guess I've never lived in south central PA, though I've been through there a billion times.
Good Luck on Cycle #2!

Another tidbit of Femara info - according to my doctor Femara doesn't have the risk of having multiple o's like Clomid does. Clomid "forces" your body to o, whereas Femara gets your hormones to work and sync together to have a more "natural" o.
