Warning: Not for the faint of heart. But really, is anything on this board?
The road to healthy has been fine for the most part, until the past week when I keep on noticing bright red blood when wiping. This is apparently the result of an anal fissure, probably formed since I am not used to going as much as I do on Metformin.
What have you ladies done for this, is there anything you can do? I will suck it up if I have to (not literally) but if there is a fix I'd like to know about it.

Hi Angela, Sorry to hear what you've been going through! I just wanted to suggest that you get to your Dr. promptly. My husband had one and let it go for weeks. He ended up needed surgeries that could definitely have been avoided! Take care of yourself and it will be gone in no time!!!! Best of luck!

Okay, this is kind of embarassing but this happened to me too and it was just once... and I wiped and there was bright red blood but I wasnt sure if this was spotting or not. But, if I may ask... what is an anal fissure?

Anal fissures are a crack or tear in the anal canal that can cause bleeding ranging from a few drops on the toilet paper to more pronounced bleeding that can bee seen in the toilet or even on underwear. Small tears can be no bigger than a paper cut while larger, deeper tears can extend as deep as the inner muscle layers and produce light to heavy bleeding respectively. They are most commonly caused by constipation and hard bowl movements, but prolonged diarrhea and spasming of the anal sphincter can cause them as well. Given the location of the injury, infection is always a risk.
