I've been prescribed Metformin (1000mg/day) and I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions about it based on their personal experience.

1. How long does it take for things to begin to change (specifically my hirsutism?)

2. What's the best thing to take it with? So far milk, meat and an empty stomach are not good ideas.

Not sure if any of the following will matter but here's a quick overview.

Age: 27
Medications: Micards HCTZ, clonidine, amlodipine, nexium, metformin, provera (10 days,) and zoloft.
Not currently TTC (husband is in Korea)
One miscarriage in 2007

Thanks!

If you have type II diabetes, your doctor may prescribe Melformin HCL to manage it. HCL is an abbreviation hydrochloride. It reduces the amount of sugar in the liver.

I found that Met hasnt helped with hair, but there are other drugs the DR can give you for this (unless you are TTC or pregnant).

At first i found i felt really sick if i took my Met with anything fatty/oily or sugary, i had to steer clear of these things completely. I think i am used to it now though and can pretty much eat whatever i want without feeling sick.

adorkable - (cute name by the way) I had really bad nausea when I first starting the Met. I found that taking in with dinner, not before or after, but like in the middle helped. It only lasts a week or so each time I have increased my dosage. I have been on for over 4 months and haven't seen any major improvements. I was told by other ladies here that it could take 6 months or more (everyone is different). I do think it has helped me lose weight.

I have recently been looking into other things I can do to help with my PCOS. I have read that Spearmint Tea helps with hirsutism or a medication called spironolactone. I think I will try the tea and ask my endo about the spiro next time I see her.

Best of luck to you!
