Does anyone take met who is not overweight? If so what dose do you take? I was wondering if there is a correlation between body weight and dosage size :?:

I'm 5' 5 1/2" and 141 lbs (at least, I am today!), and am on 1500 mgs of Met. I don't know if there's a correlation between weight and dose... from what I've read here, 1500 mgs seems to be the dose most of us newbies work up to. Some people need more and others (I assume) need less... depends on your body, I suppose.

Not sure how much this helps... but at least you know you're not the only one!

My daughter who has pcos is 5'4 and 108 lbs was told to take 2000 mgs of metformin a day. She was having episodes with her blood sugars dropping and her gp said to continue the dose the endo had started her on. We took it upon ourselves to cut the dosage in half and no more episodes to date. She is however gaining weight on this med and she is on a carb counting diet. We dont understand this and will ask the endo about it. Will look forward to other responses.

I'm 5'4" and about 125lbs. I just started Met 500mg today. I'll be working my way up to at least 1500mg. From what I've read, 1500mg is the "average" minimum dose for response.

Hi-

I'm 5'4 112 and I started 500mg last week. I have been feeling really nauseated all day everyday though. Anyone else with this side effect?

Actually, I've had very mild s/e's- a slight episode of nausea the day after my first dose and a bit of gas, but nothing too extreme.

Hi,
I am 5'7 inches and weigh 133 lb. I am on 1500 mg Metformin. My sister who is even smaller than I am has also been on Metformin 1500 mg with her PCOS and has conceived twice at that dose. I don't know if there is a correlation to dose and weight. I think the response to the medication is probably the most accurate evaluation for increasing or decreasing dose.

Thanks!

Hi,

I am 5'5 and 128 pounds. I started with 500mg metformin per day on Feb 10 and increased a week later to 1000mg. I got my period yesterday. I am going to start cycle monitoring to track ovulation.

Has anyone else had this experience..i.e getting a period so quickly on met :?:

I recently had a tubal reversal and I started off with 500mg the first week of my surgery and graduated every week 500mg til I reached 1500mg. I weighed 128 when I started. I am only 5'1. By the 2nd week I had gone down to 110.5 lbs. I have very loose bowels 30 mins to an hour after eating. Is anyone having the same effect as I do? I hope this medication works for us.

I'm 5'7 and 155... could definitely stand to lose 10lbs, but my insulin is definitely not high -- 79. I started about 6 weeks ago, and am on day 12 of my first Clomid cycle (day 5-9). No o'ing yet.....

myhoney,
For the past week or so i've had very loose bowels about 30 mins after taking met but i didn't have this from the start? Then again maybe my body has only now got used to 1500mg daily, also i've noticed when i need to wee i feel like i could wet myself if i don't go right then, my bladder hasn't always been weak, anyone else get this??

Yes,I have a weak bladder. I was a bed wetter as child. Now as a 27 yr old adult when I laugh or sometimes cough or even sneeze I'll get the " I just peed a little" like feeling and have to go to the potty.

You girls DO know that you can improve the strength of your pelvic floor muscles, right? If not, ask about doing Kegel exercises. They really DO work and are often recommended for women after childbirth. They strengthen the pelvic floor and reduce the incidence of coughing/sneezing/laughing -induced incontinence.

In case you're not familiar with them, it's squeezing muscles in your pelvic region multiple times in a set. If you're on the pot, try to slow and then stop the stream of urine--this is what a Kegel feels like. Then when you know what it feels like, do it when you're not in the bathroom. Anytime you're sitting, you can do it. Start with reps of 10 and increase. Sitting in traffic? Kegel. Watching TV? During a commercial-break, Kegel. It WILL make a difference! ;)

I'm 5'8", 130lbs. I've been on met 1500mg for 7 weeks with no change in testosterone levels and no menses. :( Endo just upped me to 2000mg. Also recently diagnosed with high prolactin.
