FINALLY! Hi everyone! My name is Prinny and I am no longer pregnant.

The incredibly beautiful, insanely brilliant and utterly toothless Spike Riley Scott was born on October 10th at 11:15pm (Australian Eastern time) by emergency C-section at Monash Hospital in Melbourne. He weighs in at an astonishing 7lbs5oz (not the 54lbs his mother predicted) and stands (when propped up) 19 inches tall.

You'd better put the kettle on, Im feeling chatty!
Wow, what a week! Here's the birth story. As harrowing as it sounds - I'd do it again tomorrow for the result - What a brilliant little kid we have!
Went to L&D Tuesday the 10th at 7am for scheduled induction. After discussing the "birth plan" - "Keep the drugs coming, I don't want to be in pain. It's 2006 and there's no need for heroics." The Dr was BRILLIANT and kind and gentle and wonderful. He broke my waters (what an hilarious feeling it is to leak for the rest of the day!) at around 8am and set up the pitocin drip. I was a massive 1cm dilated and -5 station. I laboured slowly, really quite bearably and in control. I had two midwives (- also AMAZING), I found the most comfortable position for me was sitting on the floor - so there, all 3 of us sat for quite a few hours. Hubbalicious tended to all my whims (and I had a few) and tried to nap while the going was good! The midwives had trouble tracing Spike who kept moving around and then trouble tracing my contractions. As the labour progressed I started getting awful AWFUL back labour and deep low pelvic contractions. I could deal with the belly pain but the back labour was just torturous. I had my 2nd check at around 1pm, I was dilated to a generous 2cm and really no change in Spike's position. They decided to put a scalp monitor on him. Now, that hurt. Because he was still so high up the Dr almost had to put on one of those veterinarian shoulder gloves they use for inseminating cows - well, that's what it felt like. The pain was kicking in but because I was only 2cm I thought if I start having pain relief now it's going to leave me no where to go, later. The belly contractions were more intense and the back labour was just the worst pain I've ever felt. I spent hours going from the ball to the floor to the loo to bed - bolt upright - to the ball to the floor to the... I just wanted the back pain to go away. The next shift of midwives came on duty, I was desperately upset to see the morning girls go, the bond you form with them is so intense. Luckily the next 2 were just as incredible. I was soon in that grunting primal "someone cut my back off" stage, just waiting for my next internal to see where we'd progressed to. They checked me again at about 4pm. 2 cm and -3. The Dr asked me about pain relief and said, lets decide on something because this is going to be a long night. I said I'd discuss it with Hubbalicious. They turned the pitocin down to let me rest a bit. My contractions were coming one on top of another, without any real rhythm and certainly no relief. I laboured, badly for a little longer - until I just couldn't stand it anymore. Again, it was the back labour that was the killer. I asked for the gas which promptly made me throw up the entire contents of everyone's stomach. Dr came back in and said he'd really like me to have an epidural. He promised me it would last the entire labour and would not 'run out' - especially seeing as it was looking to be such a long long haul. The anethestist came up, took one look at my back and said "Hell No!" Now, I do have scoliosis and have Harrington Rods inserted along my spine (back when I was 11yrs old). The Dr said she would not risk an epi. My Dr asked for a 2nd opinion and the head of the unit came up for a look. He took one look and said, "Double hell no." They decided to try a self deliverd pain relief directly into my IV. I wanted them to kill me instead. The (Ive gone completely blank on the name of the medicine) bloody thing worked! It took away the back labour (or reduced it to a point where I could think about life again.) I asked for my Mum and Dad to come in and Hubbalicious stood stoically at my side wishing we could switch places.
They turned down the pitocin again for some relief and I rested for about 30 mins. Suddenly my room was FULL of people - Spike was decelerating alarmingly. As they were very calmly deciding what to do he rebounded and maintained his heartbeat. They turned down the pitocin again and watched. The Dr wanted to check me again - he said if youre not at at least 5-6cm we should call it a night and have a C-Section. I agreed. If I wasn't at 6cm I knew there was NO way I could do this "pain" for another 8cm. Of course, I was at 2cm and -3. Spike then took another spectacular dive and I 'fainted out'. I could hear everyone but was out of it.
Because I couldn't have an epi they prepped me for a General, took my toenail polish off in the elevator while they whizzed me upstairs to surgery. We'd both recovered a bit by the time we got upstairs. (Somewhere there is a photo of me sitting up in the operating suite with a BIIIIIIIIIIG smile on my face!) Hubbalicious wasn't allowed in with me so he and my parents waited in the hall for the longest 15 mins of their lives while they knocked me out and spelunked for Spike!
The general anaesthetic is the most wonderful thing ever invented. Morphine runs a close second. Hubby and the proud PROUD grandparents met my son while the doctor performed a reverse tummy tuck - leaving me with a tummy pouch!!!!!!!!! I was in recovery and back down to the ward inside 40 minutes I guess. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stoned! heh I remember talking and talking, "Did I have the baby? I have a baby? Wow, I have a baby. Where's the baby? Have I had a baby? Do you have my baby?"
Then I saw it. The love of my life carrying the smallest bundle of joy I could ever imagine. His hair was wild! His face was completely delicious and I could not believe how perfect he is. I still cant.
I love him. I love to cuddle him and read him Spike Milligan poems. I love watching my parents with him and every time Hubbalicious goes anywhere near him I feel like my heart will simply burst out of chest with this overwhelming feeling of pure love and contentment.
