I've been taking 3 500 mg of Metformin ER a day. BUT I've noticed that sometimes one of the pills seems to... ummmm... pass right thru my digestive tract.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Are you eating with the pill? I would try the opposite of whatever you are doing with that pill right now and see if it helps.

I found the XR is much better than the regular version as far as my stomach "issues"!!!

The directions say to take it an hour after I eat. Maybe take it right away?

Do you mean that sometimes you see one of the pills come out? This a a feature of the ER version. No need to worry...Your body is getting what it needs from the pill, but part of it passes.

sjessmer...

Exactly. Phew! I thought maybe my body wasn't getting any benefit if it was going straight thru! lol

Thanks! :D

The same thing happened to me when I was on ER. I switched back to my regular kind, just because I wasn't losing as fast as I normally was after I started the ER. :D

The extended release metformin will "appear" to pass right through you - the tablet shape stays intact, but the medicine has leached out into your system.

If you take the pills in the middle of your meal(s), it will help with the intestinal issues.
