i was just wondering if anyone else one here got their first pap while they were a virgin....i just had my first last week and am still a virgin and it was the most painful thing ive ever had to deal with in my life....it was so bad to the point where i was yelling/ crying and telling here to stop...she did it as fast as possible but it was awful...i couldnt stop crying like the whole day everytime i like thought about it....has anyone else had that happen?? also i was at the begining of my period when she did it but it was really light so she said she could...and after about 6 months of finally having normal periods about 6-7 days long and only 2-3 days heavier (i have always had HEAVY, large clots and everything and LONG periods, for the longest time it would last at least 5 months) since the pap i have had a very heavy period and its been 2 weeks now....i had read that you can spot from a pap but im really upset because for the first time in 7 years i was having normal periods...am i the only one that had this horror happen to me???

I had my first pap when I was a virgin at 18. It was also the most painful thing I had ever gone through. In fact after that I avoided the gyn like the plague. I finally did go back after I got married and it was so much better.

A PAP is a test done to make sure you are not developing cancer. You lay back on the exam table with your panties off, there are those "holster" things to rest your feet in, and the doc will usually do an internal exam (putting 2 fingers inside your vagina and using his/her hand on your stomach so they can feel where your internal organs are), then use a speculum to open up your vagina. Some are nice, and warm it up first and are gentle, others (some women included!) - well - are not! Then they will take a scrapping of the cells of your cervix to send to a lab to check for cancer. Most women should get one if they become sexually active as there is a "silent" STD that can cause cancer, or if they don't have AF at least every 3 months, or once you are about 18 yrs old.
It's not my most favourite thing in the world, but you should get it done at least every year or two. If something IS "going wrong", a PAP will catch it before it goes too far, while it's easier to treat.
Udunnomeatall, it sounds like 2 things have happened - first of all, it sounds like your hymen (tissue partially covering the vaginal opening) was broken, and that it must have been fairly thick, too, to cause that much pain. That will cause bleeding. Also, because the doctor has to scrape cells from your cervix, if you moved suddenly, the doc could have nicked the cervix, and you could be bleeding from that, too. A PAP can also cause cramping, so if you were already on your period, all of the above could be what's made it so uncomfortable. I don't think it will be like this from now on, though. I would assume it was just a one-time thing. I'm hoping you feel better, now, though. At least your first sexual experience should not be that painful, as your hymen has already been broken. Just make sure it is with the right person!! You still want someone to treat you right!!

I don't know about the bleeding, but yes, I was a virgin and yes, OH YES, Did it hurt! I actually had 3 done now (still a virgin at the moment). I promise, even if you keep doing it as a virgin it hurts less and less everytime... which isn't to say it doesn't hurt, but it won't be quite as bad as your first time as I remember it (I still avoid it like crazy now though, but most women do. x_x its not a comfy experience no matter what)
