Hello!

I was diagnosed of PCOS in 2007. Recently, the symptoms are getting worse so I went to the gynecologist and He recommended me to take Diane-35, it is a birth control pills.

The problem is that I am a little bit confused, should I take them or not? I want to know what are the most common side effects, and if I quitted the treatment would the symptoms get worse?

I will appreciated if you tell me about your experiences.

Thanks for advance. :)

Birth control can help the symptoms. If you have already been on bcp, a different pill might not make huge strides in your symptoms. However, if this is the first time on bcp in awhile, it will probably help. I wish that I would have started metformin years and years ago. This will help address the underlying cause of PCOS - which is IR. For me it helped with my symptoms a lot and I can't imagine my world without metformin now. Met is not just for people TTC which I think is a common misconception. I'd ask your dr about it.

I dont know about that birth control but from my expirience birth control helped regulate my symptoms so much that I never knew I had PCOS till I was married and had gotten off birth control so we could start trying to concieve. Ask your doctor what the side effects of that pill are or even look it up at drugs.com.

my gynecologist suggested i take dianne bcp. i refused as i really really don't want to go on the pill ever again. however, she said that's the best one as it can help with hormone imbalances and it is mostly only used for girls with pcos.

if i ever decide to go on the pill again, that's likely what i'd choose, although i think i'd rather not go back on the pill if i can help it (the one i was on before stuffed me up a LOT and i'm too scared to go back on it as i put on sooooo much weight and i reckon it made my pcos worse as my cycles were more irregular post pill as they were before i went on it and i'd been on it 1 year).

Diane-35 is a very strong anti-androgen bc that is favorable for many with pcos. It is not available in the U.S. so I do not have experience with it. But I know about its properties. It has a high incident of causing deep vein thromboembolisms and should not be used for more than about 4 months because of the risk. This risk is why it is not approved by FDA in U.S.

I totally agree with pharmgalkelli about the concerning side effects of Diane-35. However, this medication is available in the market outside the US. I think you may talk to your doctor about the serious side effects of Diane-35 before taking the pills (if you still want to try). And carefully monitor your response to it. If there is any of these below symptoms occurs, please stop using the pills immediately and seek for medical help.

病bdominal or stomach pain (sudden, severe, or continuing)
不igns of blood clots (e.g., coughing up blood; pains in chest, groin, or leg - especially in calf of leg)
不igns of heart attack (e.g., sudden chest pain or pain radiating to back, down arm, jaw; sensation of fullness of the chest; nausea; vomiting; sweating; anxiety)
不igns of stroke (e.g., sudden or severe headache; sudden loss of coordination; vision changes; sudden slurring of speech; or unexplained weakness, numbness, or pain in arm or leg)
不hortness of breath

You may also want to consult with ANOTHER doctor for a 2nd opinion about using Diane-35, or may ask for other medications.

I'm not an expert about PCOS, but I hope these information could help.
