Wondering as to whether I should try up-ping my Met dosage. Has it been beneficial to any to go to 2000? Or did you get the same results out of the 1500?

I am on 2000 mg of Metformin per day and have been for nearly 3 years. I do not recommend upping your dosage without the oversight of an endocrinologist, but I have had good luck.
You will have to watch your diet - low carbohydrate intake (less than 40% of your calories from carbs) and high protein, otherwise the stomach/intestinal issues will be unbearable. However, it does help. With diet and metformin, I lost 60 lbs in about 6 months and have steadily improved over the past 3 years.

I did try the 2000 but I had horrible belly troubles with it. I've decided to keep with the 1500 dr recommended. Hopefully it will work!

I have a dose related question. My doctor just prescribed 500mg of metformin today. He doesn't seem to have any plans to raise it unless 500mg doesn't work for several months.
Has anyone actually had success on just 500mg? How long should I give it to take effect before calling and asking for a higher dose?

MMM...Not sure on that one. The 1500 did cause me to loose 10% of my body weight and af is coming on her own 28-35 day cycle. Can't really complain. I have been off bcp for 2 months, so truly ttc for 2 months. If I were you I'd ask to go up, but that's just me.
Good luck to you!

I am and I asked about it. He didn't seem concerned. It's just frustrating because I want to get my cycles back to normal and get pregnant and I'm afraid that 500mg is just wasting my time.

I stared out with 500mg then moved to 1000mg. It wasn't until I was 1700mg that I got my period on my own the past 3 times and they were 30 day cycles

How long did it take you to go from 500mg to 1700mg?

I have been taking 1500mg for almost 4 years. My cycles are more regular but not totally normal. I lost a little bit of weight but mainly maintaing. I had to switch to the 1500mg glucophage XR or extended release and take them all at once or my stomach could not tolerate. I told all my cousins and they did the same and they can now take it as well with out the stomach issues. I could not tolerate going to 2000mg so I am stuck at 1500mg. The key is the XR (extended release) and taking all 3 (500mg) at one time (morning with breakfast).
