This same message was posted under medications..

I dont really know where to post. I used to be on b.c.p til I was 19 and then I stopped because we were trying to get pregnant. We have been trying for 2 years now. We have been unsuccessful in ttc so I went to the doctor and he didnt do any tests and diagnosed me with Pcos. He didnt do any tests to confirm so I went someplace else and it was confirmed with an u/s.

I have had yeast infections at least every month with no underlying cause for the past couple of years.. they suck btw! I ended up with a cyst and they watched it and eventually it went away with pills they were giving me that were supposed to make me start my period while not being a b.c.p.

I have had irregular periods since they started when I was 14/15. I would go months with out having a period so that is when I went on the pill. Since I have been off I had 2 more regular cycles and then they were irregular again. I started this med that supposed to help me start my cylcle when it doesnt show up. I only took it once and I got severe cramps! My cuz doesn bowen work and two months of not having a period then next day after a round of bowen, i had my period. I swear it was the bowen work, but for about 6 months after that my periods have been regular with no meds at all!

Now this past month Im back to having irregular periods! And my ovaries are in immense pain! I went to the doc last week and had another "invasive" u/s. I didnt get my results that day but by looking on the screen I could see something covering my right ovary and both my ovaries still have polycystic cysts.

I have to go to a special clinic at the U of I hospitals and clinics becasue im so sensitive down there. They cant figure that out either! They told me that I have pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, severe sensitivity, Pcos, and infertility problems.
Last week when I was there they were telling me I have endometriosis... They want to do a surgery on me.

Im in immense pain and they keep telling me that I need to go on the pill or get pregnant right this second! Knowing full well Im ttc and against the idea of the pill. also they tell me the only thing they can do for the pain in my ovaries is to give me a trigger point injection shot! Im VERY AGAINST this idea too! I told them and they are really pushin it on me!

All this comes down to, is that im scared to have surgery, I feel hopeless i will ever be pain free or be able to concieve, and depressed because they keep telling me i need to do ivf or see there fertility specialist when they know full well I cant afford it! my insurance doesnt cover those kinds of clinics! I need to know that there is someone else out there who has walked in these shoes and made it out!

Im also wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to looking up medications that you have tried that i can discuss with my doctor. ANYTHING I feel im stuck in Rut!

Hey ksm620
The ladies on the TTC board (in the fertility section) are a great support if you would like to come to there. Everybody is welcome.
Just wondering what is Bowen? i have never heard of it.
I would suggest going to an RE (Reproductive Endo) they are specialists in PCOS and will help with the fertility problems.
Or you could try an Ob/Gyn.
I had to have Provera to start a period as i didnt have one for 8 months after coming off BCP and DH and i are TTC.
I also did a round of clomid to try and induce ovulation...This was my first round and waiting to see if i ovulated or if they need to up the dosage.
There are other medications like Metformin you could try.
If your insurance doesnt cover fertility specialists i would suggest looking for another insurance that will.
Just letting you know that your not alone in this battle and we will all try to support you however way we can. Feel free to message me if you need a chat or just need to vent.

ksm620, I think we have all been in your shoes. Finding the right doctor is hard. One that will listen to you and help you is not easy. When I was ttc I saw my regular OB, I went through 3 before I found the one (including a RE). The other ones wanted to put me on BCP, I was TTC not prevent it. So finally I did a bunch of research and started taking herbal supplements and then went to my OB told her what I was taking and started Clomid. The first month on Clomid I got pregnant. The book I read is called Pregnancy Miracle (it's an e-book only) and picked the herbs that I thought would help me.

I would definitely recommend an RE. They should be able to tell you an accurate diagnosis. They should run blood tests and possibly an U/S but they are specialized in PCOS and fertility. The other thing you might want to consider is Eastern medicine like acupuncture and herbs. I have heard lots of great things about both especially with pain and fertility. Read the books: Making Babies: a proven 3-month program for maximum fertility by Sami David and Jill Blakeway and The infertility cure : the ancient Chinese wellness program for getting pregnant and having healthy babies by Randine Lewis. Basically Making Babies is a cross between using Western and Eastern medicine. They give you the best approach for you and your symptoms to help heal your body. In some cases Western treatment like surgery or assited reproductive technologies are still needed. But if you follow the programs you will be much healthier to proceed.

There is also a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I haven't read this myself but many women on this board have and recommend it.

thanks everyone! I will def be checking out some books, and I did get back from the doctors today. seeking an RE is something I need to do, but insurance doesnt cover it Until I get pregnant! ya they wanted to put my on the pill, they kept telling me that was my only option besides the trigger point inj shots. Its like these doctors arent listening to me and I never have the same one. Also they diagnosed me with endometriosis and told me I more than likely have endometrial cancer and that I should go on the pill get a shot and have a laparoscopy!

They said doing those 3 things are the only options that they can give me to help get rid of my pain, she did offer provera which I have been on before and had unbearable pain which im having without taking it right now... They didnt offer me clomid or metformin or anything that people on these boards take. I was sitting there balling like a baby so upset to even ask! I didnt have the doctor I was supposed to have today and the one i did have, she really made me upset

She also told me that im more than likely not going to be able to have kids. Guess the only hope I have is to refer to these boards..

Oh ya! the reason I had an appt today was so i could get the results of an u/s I had last week.. oh boy did they surprise me today! hahah They told me that my u/s came back normal, and then i was like if it came back normal we have a serious problem! I have PCOS LOL.. then they wre like ya you do but other than that it was normal. I said I also saw something on my ovary when we were doing the u/s... THEN they told me that I have some sort of cysts that just go away on there own..

I dont think its very good when i have to do the doctors Job for them! Sux is it is the only place I can go!!!!

ksm - I HATE it when people tell us we can't have kids... SO STUPID! Find a different doctor! Is the shot they want you to take progesterone? Most typical is to take provera pills, but if you have had issues with it in the past, they may be recommending the shot to induce a period. My aunt had them and said they hurt like a b*tch but they work. It is very important for you to have a period at least every 3 months to prevent the endometrial cancer. If you do have endometriosis, having a lap surgery to remove it maybe key to getting rid of the pain and helping you to get pregnant. (Your insurance should cover that.) Your uterus needs to be in tip-top shape to carry that baby!!! :D You need to shed that lining to get rid of the pain... but a period could be very painful... I really would recommend the surgery. Also, taking the bcp for 1 month can help the larger cyst on your ovary to resolve if its not doing so on its own... seems strange when you want to concieve, but sometimes it is the right thing to do for 1 month...

I would recommend calling the ob-gyn offices that are within your insurance and asking them about treatments for pcos and infertility... when you find one that sounds knowlegable make an appt! (By knowlegable, I would think they would talk about metformin and clomid...) Hopefully you will find one... if not, see if there's an endocrinologist who can help you (some times they will be covered by insurance when a reproductive endo is not... but they are just trying to make sure your pcos is controlled, not get you pregnant...) If you haven't had b/w done, you should! At a minimum, they also need to check your thyroid because that can also look like pcos and some pcos'ers also have thyroid issues.

Sorry... that got a little rambling... hope it made some sense.

Yes! My insurance only covers the U of Iowa... and in order to get into that clinic I have to go to my insurances clinic which is a min of 8 months wait!!! the Only way to go from there is to try and get a hold of my state rep! Which is just as difficult.. Im going through with the surgery, I did get a diff doc who I cant meet until 2 days before surgery. :-/ However I have an appt this week with someone who isnt doing my surgery but can answer my questions! So thats somewhat good news...

thanks for the advice.. Im definently going to be seeing a RE asap! Also I agree with the whole you cant have a baby thing, because I know that most people are successful! I just hope that I am one of those people.. all I have to hang onto in that hope is my own consious and the people on this website! :)
