I just started Metformin on 8/31. I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier that week and I'm being seen at the U of Iowa PCOS Clinic.. which I understand is a great clinic. :D
My question.. I THINK I ovulated for the first time on the 12th. (BAD ovary area pain) I haven't felt this pain in YEARS (since I was in high school!!!) and was shocked. I started on 500, then 1000, and now I'm on 1500 extended release plus synthroid plus prenatal.
Is this too fast for the meds to be working?
Congrats on the signs of new goings-on since starting the Met (let's hope it was ovulation, you should know within a couple weeks). :)
Metformin worked that quickly for me, too. Within a few weeks of starting at 1000mg, I felt so much better, bumped up to 1500mg, started a period the NEXT day! (first in nearly two years off the pill that was not induced). Got pregnant the very next cycle!
So, in my experience, YES! Met can work that quickly.
Good luck! If you can, post when you know for sure (it's encouraging to see examples of successful PCOS treatments).
Take Care,
Tish

After reading on this board for awhile, I realize I don't have it as bad as others. Thankfully, I have somehwat normal periods... I'm just not ovulating.
When they did the vaginal ultrasound, my ovaries had a lot follicles on them so they know I can produce eggs and my uterus looked really good. :) Plus, the thyroid is working as it should. Now we just have to convince those ovaries to give up those eggs! :)

I was diagnosed in November 2003. I started Glucophage XR then. By January 2004, I was able to chart/track my menstral cycle to 35 days (a few more than the average 28, but very much regular) starting first in December 2003 and then January 2004. I conceived in January 2004 and had my daughter in October.
It is very possibly that the meds are working that fast for you. They worked for me during that first month of taking them.

I am new to the site and also recently diagnosed. I am on my second week of metformin and about to start the 1500 dose. Have been TTC for 7 months and it is encouraging to hear that it may work so quickly!

Also, check out a website that I used called FEMTA...www.femta.com. They sell a software that is EXCELLENT in tracking ovulation. I downloaded the free version (you can use it for the first 50 days free) and conceived before I could purchase the actual software. You can even track your ovulation for best times to conceive a boy or a girl. The next time I TTC I'll probably purchase the actual software. It helped me to narrow my ovulation down to THE DAY. I told my husband that we had a 'date' Friday night, and not to make any plans. LOL For someone like me who had always had irregular periods (and then months on...and then months off), it was AMAZING to be able to actually track my ovulation to THE DAY!
With PCOS so many things are uncertain. Every little bit helps!
