Well, kinda new. I dont wish to get pregnant , I dont miss my periods but I do want to loose weight and nothing works. I was DX w PCOS two yrs ago and was put on 500mg twice daily. For two years I have been trying to take this "diarrhea pill" and I just can't seem to get past the dreadful side effects. I have to take lomotil daily just to keep out of the bathroom every 10 minutes! I hate it. Is there an alternative out there to help with my insuline resistance? I am desparate at this point. I watch what I eat and exercise all the time, at one point I exercised for 1 1-1/2 hours a day cardio for 7 months and lost some but not as much as the normal person. I am tired.

Sorry it took long for any kind of response...
I assume the "diarrhea pill" is metformin? First off is it helping with your PCOS sympoms?
Somethings to ease the side effects:
Do you always take it with food, a meal or a good size glass of milk?
I know you said you watch what you eat...what kind of eating plan are you following? Do you watch the type of carbs you are taking in? If you can stick the lower glycemic index/glycemic load that might help.
Are you taking the regular or the extended release? The extended release is supposed to be easier on your stomach.
Are you taking the brand or the generic? Some people tolerate the brand name better.
Sorry I don't the insulin senstizer alternatives to metformin.
Hope somehing helps.
Best of luck

One more thing for you...this might be a just me, but you never know...I do find that since starting the metformin, drinking orange juice is disasterous. I am in the bathroom within half an hour. I'm conviced it's the sugar.

nursehunter - see my post in the "Metformin... what not to eat?" thread. My endo was talking about a new version of met that does't have the side effect. I don't remember the name, but you might ask your doc about it.
