I started on Metformin 4/28 (so right at almost one month). I'm taking 2000MG a day (2 pills in the morning and 2 at night). I'm past the worst of the stomach upset, and now I only feel ill if I have more than one beer or glass of wine over the weekend.

I have already noticed a big improvement in my skin, it is much clearer. I have not noticed any less hair (still plucking the lip and chin every other day or so). I have lost probably 5 or 6 pounds, but that would be normal for me in that timeframe anyway because I have been doing Atkins since Jan 1.

My question is this, how long does it take on the metformin to balance the testosterone and gonadatrophins? I would expect it would be different for every person, but didn't know if anyone could share their experiences with this? My endo has me scheduled for a follow up in August, which would be 4 months out from when I began the medication.

I started taking 500mg Met on January 21, 2010. I added a pill every week. I started on the full dosage on February 11. I haven't really noticed many changes. My endo said it would take anywhere from 6 months to a year. Others on here have noticed changes in less time than this. I also believe I have a unresolved thyroid condition. My endo says it's fine, but my symptoms and numbers point to hyperthyroidism. This condition has symptoms similar to PCOS. I would give it a minimum of 6 months.

Take it from me- stay on it! :) I've always had a love/hate relationship with Metformin. It's one of those meds that we NEED to be on whether we actually feel major changes or whether it's all internal. Sometimes it's hard to notice, but yet when I go off it, everything goes to crap for me. So...I will never go off of it again. Good luck!

After 6ish months on Metformin, I've finally had my period for 2 months in a row for the FIRST time in my life (I'm 31). Stick with it...it takes time!
