So my doc put me on 1000mg of met twice a day since November. I have not noticed any weight loss with the exception of being on birth control. For that month when I was on birth controll I lost 7 lbs without diet or excersice. I think my dosage isn't high enough since I only lost weight on birth control. Do you think I should ask to up my dosage? And what dosage did you personally see results. Thanks ladies!

The max most dr will rx is 2000mg a day so you are already at the max. Some will go up to 2500mg but most only 2000. For me met didn't really make me lose weight but it helped me lose weight. Without being on it I just am at a standstill (with diet and exercise) but being on it helps the weight come come (again with diet and exercise). The thing that met really helped was giving me back regular AF.
So if you aren't dieting and exercising regularly try that and see if the weight comes off. Also it can take up to 1 yr for met to become effective for some.

My endocrinologist initially put me on 500mg once a day of metformin. Eventually it was increased to 2000mg once a day, which she told me was the max dose. I lost about 6 pounds on metformin and after getting on birth control, lost another 25 pounds with alittle diet and exercise, but nothing extreme. I doubt your doctor will increase your dosage since you are already at or near the max dosage, but it never hurts to ask. Also, if you are worried about your weight, my doctor was willing to put me on phetermine which is a appetite suppressant to help with my weight loss. That could also be an option. I wish you the best of luck!
