So far after 4 birth control pills and 3 gyno's in three years, I am trying a NATURAL hormone in cream....progesterone.

Has anyone has success with this?

I'm not sure what symptom of PCOS you are trying to treat with this. I don't know of any it will help.

Hey there!

I do not have confirmed PCOS, but have all the symptoms and the doctor has "suggested" it. Also, I have done a lot of research that shows progesterone helps women with PCOS--in most cases, women with PCOS have a lower progesterone than other women and sometimes it can help with implantation and prevent miscarriage.

I am currently (this is first month) taking Prochieve (8%) a gel form of progesterone and hoping this is our answer. I have also taken tamoxiphin to help me ovulate and metoformin. I am hoping this is our answer.

I would say any form of progesterone would help, but ofcourse a prescribed amount may be better.

Good luck in ttc!

Are you sure you take tamoxephen? That is usually a drug given to breast cancer patients and makes then NOT ovulate.

I go to a nurse practitioner who prescribes bioidentical progesterone cream for me. It has helped a lot with making my cycle easier, the bleeding is lighter, the cramps are less, and in general I get less PMS and bloating.

She told me that as a result of my PCOS I have very low progesterone and high estrogen levels. Remember that with PCOS we don't ovulate, so we never get the surge of progesterone you usually get mid-cycle. So by using progesterone cream I'm helping to balance out the high estrogen levels, which just makes me feel better.

There are no known evil effects of this kind of progesterone use, and it's done nothing but improve my health. And it's not a form of birth control; if you're the ovulating kind, you'll still ovulate. Since I've been taking it I've ovulated a few times. My nurse says that eventually the metformin may return my endocrine system to be normal enough that I'll generate enough progesterone on my own, but I've been messed up by PCOS for so long it's not for sure.

the natural prog creams didn't seem to do anything for me (but then they didn't do any harm either) in the end I needed to take prog pessaries to reduce my miscarriage risk.

oh and tamoxifen - how are you finding it? I found it so much better than clomid (although it still didn't work for me).

good luck

hi,

just wanted to chime in...I use NPC faithfully...I cannot take progesterone orally, makes me sick...so I switched to the cream back in April, I ovulated for the first time in May and became preggo.

I was also taking a multi vit, Folic Acid And Ester C at that time...so I give NPC a thumbs up

I have tried other oral contraceptive for pcos and endo problems in the past and the only one that didn't make me sick is progesterone only. My dr thought about giving me the cream, but tried oral first and it works so well on my pain symptoms and the only side effect I have is not having my period (if you call that a side effect since they were really awful).

I took it for a few weeks and it made me crazy. I was constantly irritated and had hostile feelings. My son drove me nuts and once I almost wanted to throw him out the window. Needless to say, I won't take that stuff again.
