My doctor wants me to start taking Wellbutrin (antidepressant) to help aleve the depressive side of PCOS. Has anyone taken this, and if so how was it? I am really scared, but I am just having a difficult time with my feelings of worthlessness because of PCOS.

I just came off wellbutrin after almost 4 years on it and my advice is to by all means try it. SSRI's never did a thing for me besides relieve some anxiety. In terms of the feelings of worthlessness and really debilitating symptoms of depression, wellbutrin was a lifesaver. I was able to recapture a normal range of moods and gain perspective on the fact that I am as deserving of happiness as the next person -- as are you. Please don't delay.
Having been off it for about 6 weeks now, I'd say the only difference I've noticed is a slight libido boost. Antidepressants really do allow you to use the tools you already have to improve your life -- they are not a crutch or a "happy pill". Depression, on the other hand, robs you of that power and makes you unable to help yourself. Best of luck to you and have faith that things will be better someday.
