Hi ladies
I was taking met and I got a period within a month. But in the time I changed my doctor from a regular doc to a pcos specialist (i finally found one)
She told me that met is not nessasary and that i got the period on my own that (500mg daliyof met) was not enough to bring it on.(and took me off them)
Now I am on yasmine and I am going nuts I am irritated mean tired and jumpy............and it's been two months on it and I have had no period.Anyone else experience this? Or is it just me ...I feel bad about the way I have been behaving and I cant help it at the time:(any comments would be appriciated)
Thanks jazzo
Ps the hair seems worse too ( and I was told it should start getting better after a few months)

Find a new doc. or go back to your old one. Any "specialist" should know many women have only positive reactions to taking Met. I'm only taking 500mg of met and while I'm on bc anyway it has been a highly effective dosage for me. My doc doesn't want to increase it unless my symptoms worsen, which so far they've only improved and I noticed a difference in just a month.
As far as the Yasmine, I had the same reaction. I was a hormonal monster! I absolutely hated it and my doc switched me. This was way before I was ever given Met.
Good luck and you're not alone.

I am taking Yasmine, the first few months were hard, but it really made a huge positive difference in my moods and how I felt. But everyones symptoms are different so I guess different meds are going to affect you differently.

I'm on Yaz which is similar...it took a month for me to get back to myself.
Another thing...I'm on 2000 mg of met and for MOST cysters, 1000 mg or more is the way to go.
Secondly, it's better to use the met to regulate things than the pill. Especially if/when you decide to TTC.

I've been taking Yasmin for 5 years now. I had no symptoms or changes at all though. I'm thinking of going off of it though, 1. it is costly and 2. I've been reading some negative things about contraceptives and PCOS lately.
I'm afraid my hair will start thinning again if I go off of it though. I also take 2,000 MG a day of Met, and also spironolactone.

tammi:
You are on Yasmin and Spironolactone? This works ok for you, no potassium problems? How much Spiro are you on?
Have you had or currently have any hair loss on you head (alopecia)?
Sorry for all the ?'s I'm gathering info for my gyn appt in a few weeks..he's always pushing the bcp route, and I think the the only one I have any interest in in Yasmin. Might finally take him up on that one
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes I take Yasmin and Spironolactone, it's been 5 years now and no potassium problems. I take 50 mg of Spironolactone 2x a day, but I'm going to cut down to 1x a day and see if anything changes (my doc wants to take me off spironolactone completely, because she said such a low dose is probably doing nothing at this point anyway).
I did have hair thinning on my head, which was when I first went to the doctor five years ago. I don't have that problem anymore, and it has grown back in. I would suppose that is from a combination of the yasmin, metformin and spiro.
Good luck!

Well that seems to be my latest concern...the hair on my head is starting to thin...nothing to extreme yet, but noticeable to me. That and a few other reasons, I think I need the estradiol from the yasmin...
