I know this message board is primarily here to talk about PCOS, how we, as individuals deal with it, the meds we take, etc. But since this is the teens board and I am a teen (18 this past July) I want to have a thread where we can talk about our likes and dislikes, in general. Who's your fave musical artists? What are your aspirations? How do you deal with acne, facial and body hair, excess weight, and obnoxious teenage boys? (lol)

And anyone who's older (i.e. not a teen), I welcome you as well to share your experiences with PCOS as a teen (if you had it then), or share similar interests.

Post away!!!!

Oh yay! You're a genius what an idea...lets seee....where do I start.

I'm 15...will be 16 a week on Wed. I'm a sucker for romance stories and films. Big fan of TV shows such as Gilmore Girls, The OC, and Charmed...

I loooove ROCK music. Any kind'll do :) Just a few of my fave bands include: Feeder, Hawthorne Heights, Anberlin, Amber Pacific, Further Seems Forever, Matchbox 20, Keane, Foo Fighters....etc etc etc

Aspirations....To be successful and happy. Hopefully I'll have a nice loving family of my own.

I luckily, don't have acne, facical hair's no problem everywhere, but I do have very fair hair over my stomach and chest etc. I'm not proud of it, but as you have to be relatively close it tends to not bother me. However, my excess weight does bother me. It's like I just keep get bigger, not noticebaly so, but enough for my jeans to keep getting tighter. That sucks. But whenever I say that I'm fat everyone says no you're not. I guess I'm not too bad, I am over weight, but I'm tall, and quite wide, so I don't look too outta proportion. It's just annoying that shops all seem to think Tall girls are skiny ass b****s. Meh.

Hmm, guys...I've found a few decent guys, granted they're only my friends. oh well...They think I deserve good guys...but hah, show me one that's interested...lol

So yeah...that's me.

It's interesting that you enjoy American TV shows living in England! 8)
And are those Train lyrics I see in your sig? :)

As my username suggests, I'm ALL about music. I love a wide range like: U2, Kelly Clarkson, The Beatles, Van Halen, Sly and the Family Stone, Aretha Franklin, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, etc.

In the dating department, I havn't had a boyfriend yet. I just havn't come acrossed guys that I "click" with. And I have high standards, so that definitely plays a role in my selection process

With weight, I am considered very overweight. But I appear to weigh less than I am, which ALWAYS helps!!

I like watching America's Next Top Model (the photo shoots have great artistic elements to them), old That 70's Show reruns, and Globe Trekker on PBS.

I'll post some more info later. Ta ta for now!! :D

It's not all that interesting actually. I'm just generally, more attracted to the American way of stuff that the British...sometimes anyways. And I have to say, US does better at Teen shows and dramas and yeah. I mean we can do comedy, and soaps, and some medical dramas. There's loadsa stuff for kids. But for teens, there's not much that we can watch or relate to... I just don't enjoy spending my time watching our soaps and other stuff.

And ooooo, they just might be :) It's the only Train song I know. And it's BEAUTIFUL! hehe

I love music, I'll listen to a variety, although out of choice anything Rocky or with a rockish edge is much more me. I really can't stand Dance though, it just irks me I guess. And irks is such a weird word.

Similar to you in the dating department. My 11 year old sister sometimes asks me why I don't have a boyfriend, and my only answer is usually, have u seen the guys at school? Hopefully there'll be some nice guys at college. hmm...

Isn't it great when you look like you weigh less than you do? Still self concious but, could be worse :) hehe.

Not seen America's Next Top Model, but have seen it advertised; seen a few eps of 'That 70's Show' looks kinda cool.

I think TV in general, has gone down hill. There used to be so many shows that you could relate to or just liked because of it's originality. TV now, definitely lacks originality. There are some british shows on American TV. You can see them on PBS (Public Broadcasting Station), which is primarily an educational station, with documentaries, specials on science, history, etc.

And I guess some Americans see British TV as more sophisticated, because Mystery is on every week, for years they have been showing Are You Being Served? reruns (at least where I live, which is northern California), sometimes Mr. Bean, which was aired more frequently in the 90's. I want to see, though, some young british sitcoms (which what I gather from you, is not as good as it should be). In the 80's, my mom liked a UK show called the Young Ones. I've never seen it, but she has said that it was funny.

It's kind of annoying, because the general theme on PBS as far as british programs is concerned, murder is almost always in the plot!
I'm thinking, come on, stop the gloominess, show some happier programs!!

Fallen_Angel_LJ

I agree. TV's not as good as it once was...and it can't just be that we've grown up and become more picky. I used to watch TV all the time, then I went through a phase of watching like an hour a day max...and only really watched TV once a week. I couldn't be bothered to see if anything was on. So I was really boring then. I watch a few things...but it's just like...yeah. Not great. And everything is always getting replaced by some new (or old *cough*BigBro*cough*) reality show. And I'm not a big fan of those.

In the UK, as I've said there's a lot of American TV, which is why so many kids over here, can practicaly speak American just as well as English, and some have perfected some kinda stereotypical accent by the time they're 10.

Aww, MR Bean...they were funny, or at least I thought so when I was a kid. I never got why he didn't speak though. I was just like heh, ok. There's one episode I remember where he had soem twiglet and somehow they dissapeared or got eaten, so he went to get more...and used twigs from the tree outside the window dipped in marmite. British sitcoms...there are a few, I don't watch many of them...and they're definately no Friends, or Will and Grace type comedy. Meh.

Hmm...gloominess...there are a few British programmes with gloominess in them, centered around stuff like Death, and hospital blood and stuff. But we do have some happier stuff! :D

Anyways, I'm sure us Brits must come across as fairly boring. There's this book called 'Watching the British' that I want to read, something to do with why we talk about the weather all the time (it's surprising, actually we do talk about weather a fair bit), and british mannerisms and stuff. Yeah...

I don't think Movies are much better...I think Hollywood just has the advantage of bigger stars and everything...British films just don't seem in the same sorta league. Actually most movies I see, are American...:S I'm sure I've seen British ones. Perhaps technology is more advanced in the US for film making? :S oh well...Sure it's no big deal, lol.

My name's Elizabeth, and I'm from North Florida. I'm a voluptugoth (we beautiful goths with curves thank you very much ^_^) and I love almost all types of music except for country because that's ALL I HEAR (Southern goth torture) and rap because I don't understand how its music.

Fav bands are Play Dead, Mira, Mors Syphilitica, Switchblade Symphony, and Ego Likeness.

Charmed I absolutely love, along with Code Lyoko and W.I.T.C.H. (yes yes cartoons sue me I''m a kid at heart ^_^)

I am considered the most insane case of PCOS the doctors have ever seen. I don't have acne, no excess body hair, just extra weight. I've had people guess my weight and only gotten to like 200. -sighs- I wish. I'm really tall too, and slowly trying to lose weight.

Oh yeah...the weight issues P me off most...well, maybe almost most...i guess. It's just so annoying, coz at times my tops are like 2/3 sizes smaller than my trousers, which i don't understand. I hate going shopping with all my friends (who are blooming skinny) coz i don't fit into clothes in those shops. It's not fair, I just wanna be normal. I keep going, right...as of tomorrow I'll diet...and never do. :S I guess the gyn's going to be sending me to a nutritionist, i need the motivation...gah...

And that was today's lil' rant....So, how is everybody?

Hey Fallen_Angel_LJ!

Nothing much has gone on lately. I don't know, it just seems that as time passes by, the general morale of the world is going down. Things aren't as exciting as what they once were. I went to this health fair yesterday, and people just weren't into it. Last year, at the same fair, there were more people, more space, and more informational booths on different health issues.

My mom and I decked out our apartment for Halloween. We LOVE Halloween!!!

On the patio, we have these glow in the dark cob webs, and orange lights. I decorated all the windows (I was surprised that I had enough energy that day to decorate!). I taped up artificial fall foliage leaves, which we love, and purple lights, and pumpkin heads in my bedroom windows. The little kids around here love this stuff, which makes it all worth while.

And the candy, oh the candy!! I have a sugar addiction, so I better cool it on that

TV is boring, so what else is new.

Well, that's all I got for now.

See ya 8)

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-17-2005, 06:44 PM
Oh wow! Can i come over for Halloween? :P PLEASE? lol

We don't celebrate Halloween. My parents think it's too Americanised  oh well. I love how Americans celebrate all these things like Thanksgiving and Halloween. I'd love to experience another Halloween. I once had an American best friend, i went to her party one halloween, it kicked ass. hehe.

Well, I'm newly addicted to Veronica Mars on TV. And the Nickelback is ACE...or at least a few tracks are anyways.

Yes, the world is boring.! ...I know, why don't we talk about how half the country might die from Bird Flu...now that could be interesting...heh.

Musicgirl
10-18-2005, 12:55 AM
Ha ha ha. Halloween should be a universal holiday!!! :D

I mean it! If I relocated to a country that didn't celebrate Halloween, I would be so sad :(

It's a day of funness!!!

And I love Veronica Mars too!!

I know you're thinking, what's with all the exclamation points!!!!

The bird flu topic is on all the news channels practically everyday here.
And I like Nickelback too, but havn't heard their new stuff yet.

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-18-2005, 06:13 AM
hehe...that made me laugh. I'm on Work Experience, and i'm bored, with a capital BORED! I'm thinking it was a bad idea doign soemthign with internet access but oh well. I've got an hour till lunch and can't wait.

You HAVE to hear their new stuff.

And it should be a universal holiday, as should every single Monday. I HATE Mondays. Who else thinks a three day weekend would rock? :P

And I love exclamation points!!! and ... I love my lil' .....

Musicgirl
10-18-2005, 03:32 PM
Hey, glad I made you laugh :D

School can be such a bore  I'm glad I already graduated!! 8)

Yeah, I'll give a listen to the new Nickelback stuff

HALLOWEEN POWER!!!!!! Candy, oh, the beautiful candy

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-18-2005, 06:23 PM
No! NOOOOOOOOOO! No! Evil candy...evil, evil sugar. Damn calories.

It's just sooooo tempting...how can we resist? Everything makes it sooooo hard. Lucky you for graduating.

Hmm...I want a guitar...I wanna learn to play. I reckon it'd be cool, guitars are soo much cooler than the piano/keyboard, which I already play...heh.

So...yeah. Bored again. lol

Musicgirl
10-19-2005, 02:13 AM
I know about the candy problem :x I'm a sugar addict! There needs to be an AA type of thing for people specifically addicted to sugar

I own an acoustic Fender guitar, but don't really play it that much, due to the usual pain from the stupid PCOS and Fibromyalgia

So what songs do you like to play on your piano? You heard of Bruce Hornsby? I love his song "That's just the way it is".

And what about Vanessa Carlton's "Thousand Miles" song? Some musicians and comedy shows have made fun of the piano parts because it's rather peculiar

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-19-2005, 07:21 PM
Oh well, on the piano I'm pretty much crap. So, all the boring stuff. I can almost play part of 100 Years (Five for Fighting) it almost sounds right, and parts of various songs. I can play the right hand of Fur Elise. But yeah, I kinda suck coz I can't be bothered to practise. But, yeah Vanessa Carlton is kinda cool.

I agree...SA, or maybe CA. 'I've been going two whole weeks without sugar' says blah. And blah-blah says 'I had been going 10 days without candy, but yesterday at work...etc etc' BE kinda weird. But a good idea. I look to you to set it up :P

I was sitting in with some Creative guys in the MArketing Team of where I do my Work Exp, and in the meeting we were all chomping away on these American Hard Gums...they were a lot of comments like 'There goes my filling...'lol

And then when they bring out films like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...what do they except? With all those Wonka Bars... :)

Musicgirl
10-20-2005, 02:54 AM
I actually can't stand Five for Fighting, but that's just me

The sugar thing, I would have to fight tooth and nail to keep myself from eating any sweets for two weeks

BUT to start out, if we made a pact to just eat fruits for our source of natural sugar and NO candy or ice cream or soda pop, for one week and then rewarded ourselves with something we REALLY like, I'd be up to doing it. :P

ooh, I know about those damn fillings :x I have had dental trauma to last myself a lifetime

And when movies come around with a main plot concerning candy, especially chocolate, watch out!!

I'd really feel like a crackhead going through withdrawal for sugar!!!

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-24-2005, 06:46 PM
And don't forget all the T-shirts... including the great ones like 'I've never met a choc I didn't like...' Oh the torture!

I guess ur way doesn't sound TOO bad, I can go a week, maybe 2...but a month without would be sooooooooo hard!

Ok...so I was reading my mag, and stumpled across the problem page, and lo and behold, the guru mentioned PCOS! :D WOOT...hehe I was just like, wow, cause usually people don't know about it, let alone mention it in mags. I might have to actually write to them...hmm...

And I found out today that a friend of the family has PCOS, I was told and was just like ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...hehe

So, yeah. I just came back from Poland! :D and my sugar consuption (coke...mainly) was kinda high. I had...3 (500ml bottles)in one night! But I didn't like their bottles, you know how the ring is usually seperate to the bottle top, in Poland, it sorta split, but was still attatched. I found that weird and annoying. Hmm...oh well. lol

so yeah...hows it going?

Musicgirl
10-26-2005, 08:37 PM
So now you have a potential PCOS 'buddy' close to home, is she older than you or around your age?

I LOVE Poland!! I've never been out of the U.S., but one of the top countries on my priority list would be Poland 8) And for years I've wanted to visit England :P Hopefully that'll happen in a couple of years :D

Here in Northern California, it's really dreary out, with rain and the darkness. I hate when it gets darker in the fall

Only 5 days till Halloween though!! :D And I'll probably give out candy to little munchkins, and then maybe I'll put on a Scream mask and jump from some bushes and scare the candy out of them!! LOL

HAHAHA, the tricks that come with trick or treating

Fallen_Angel_LJ
10-27-2005, 07:02 AM
Hehehe...

She's quite a bit older than me. Not sure by how much tho. heh.

Yup, Poland was cool, the landscape was weird it was like field field field...HOUSE! Field... lol

Yeah, yeah, come to England, come down south...near me! :D Near London...:P

Rain and darkness...gee sounds familiar. Do you ever get moments (or days...or weeks) when it looks like the sky has disappeared, it's like blank canvas totally grey, can't see nothing...:S hmm...

We'll just all have to go somewhere where it's always nice, sunny and hot :P

I love scaring kids...and well if you get your candy back...hehe

Musicgirl
11-01-2005, 12:47 AM
It's 9:45pm pacific standard time, the prime of Halloween night!!

I couldn't trick or treat since well, I'm 18 now  , and it is sooo cold outside! I'm in northern California, but go to weather.com, and you will see it gets cold here on fall and winter nights.

So I and my mom gave a bunch of candy to sugar crazed munchkins

Ah the memories :D When I lived in San Francisco, I was 8, and we were trick or treating in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, this old guy with a cool victorian house (there's alot of those in SF), he gave me and my brother both huge Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars, which I LOVE!

No one else before or after that had ever given I or my brother a treat so large :P

So, that's a good memory I have :)

Fallen_Angel_LJ
11-02-2005, 03:39 PM
aww...well I took my sister trick or treating, as in I stood at the end of the drives, whilst she went and got sugar. *dreams...* Ahhh...sweet, sweet sugar....

I wanna go to San Francisco one day, I went to LA, and San Deigo...4 years ago...but it seems longer than that...heh.

Musicgirl
11-18-2005, 05:03 PM
Hey All!!

Sorry I havn't posted in awhile. I was working, and now I'm not (too much physical labor), but the upside is I get my check next Tuesday, so I've been thinking about how to spend it!

I might go to San Francisco for Thanksgiving, stay somewhere for the night and do what I want, since I'm 18 8)

How's it in the UK, Laura? For some time it was all dreary and grey out, but now it's around 75 degrees, very comfortable, but the nights are cold. Last night when I took a long walk, I started to break out with hives on my hands. I didn't wear gloves, damn those gloves!!

I had a VERY uncomfortable day last monday when I had an appointment with a new ob/gyn doc. I had a vaginal ultrasound, which needless to say was excruciating.

And afterwards when I left the office, it was awkward how I walked cuz it hurt so damn much. And lucky me, I rely on public transportation, so I had to spend hours on buses all twisted up

In the city I live in, the university has it's own bus service and a few of the lines use old London Double Decker buses :D The pollution from the buses are a downside, but I've ridden on the top deck a few times, and it is fun. (not to mention when a bunch of tall trees come up, and branches come through the windows)

Fallen_Angel_LJ
11-25-2005, 12:06 PM
ooooo...I'm bleedin' freezing, and tired. hehe. I thought about going to bed...buts it's only 5! lol

It's dark at the mo, but usually grey and dreary, about freezing though, has been all week. Meant to snow yesterday, today and the weekend. Not down here, but as up north :) What's 75 in C? I only do degrees C don't do F! lol

Musicgirl
12-05-2005, 01:29 AM
Hey Laura!

I still havn't found out what 75 degrees fahrenheit is compared to celcius, sorry.

It's stopped raining a few days ago, but it may start back up around Friday :x

I went to San Francisco the day before Thanksgiving, and it was for the most part fun :P

There's a bad transient problem downtown, and I was bombarded with a creep that didn't want to take no for an answer, but if it would've escalated, you bet I would've defended myself!!

Well, that's all I got for now, I'll be back soon. :D

Musicgirl
12-07-2005, 10:29 AM
I found out that 75 degrees is about 20 degrees celcius :D

Now, how's it in England? :)

Fallen_Angel_LJ
12-07-2005, 01:50 PM
God...I'm so cold, and I feel really tired too. At the moment I just feel like crawling into a hole somewhere and hibernating. I'm just having 'one of those days'. I feel a bit crap...emotion wise anyways....but oh well.

It seems so weird that's its December already...and it gets dark somewhere between 4 and 4:30, I came back from the hospital and like just after half 4, and I was sitting there almost asleep, lol, but I was like there's no way it's only half 4 it felt like 8 or something...heh

When I was walking to the bus stop this morning it was kinda cold, but really icy, me and my sister were walking really carefully down the hill. it was kinda funny, except I was in a really bad mood and then realised I forgot my games kit. So I spent the whole of lesson 5 walking round school with my friend Katie.

It's strange, but once again I don't feel right...though I don't feel bad. It's almost like I feel that something is missing, but I don't know what. And it's like I feel somewhere between empty and numb, and feeling. Coz I don't feel empty or numb...yet I don't feel...normal. Does that make sense?

Musicgirl
12-12-2005, 01:37 AM
I have had alot of days like that, so don't think that you're a nut.
Yeah, it is really weird how it gets dark before 5pm; believe me when I say, many times I lose track of time and think it's sleepy time, when it's only 7pm

And I've been sleeping so much, after I've slept about 10 hours, I wake up to being groggy and wanting to snooze some more.

It doesn't snow in my area of northern California (it does at the CA/Nevada state border), but it gets colder and colder every winter, and right now if I didn't have heating, I'd be an icicle :x

Well, not much going on. Hope 2006 is a better year.

Fallen_Angel_LJ
12-12-2005, 05:57 PM
Amen to that.

Hey guess what? I'm a fool. I was doing...a...well...crappy impression of a teacher in one of my classrooms and trod on the back of my trousers and so fell, my knees were fine...it was my side (the bottom of my chest) that was the problem...it kinda collided with the table, the gap between tables was too small and I was kinda stuck for a second...lol. See, I need to diet...tho I don't look THAT big...meh.

Anyways, now I've got a pretty impressive red/purple bruise, and I'm sure it's grown...def got wider in the past few hours, I only noticed it at 7...it's what...11 now. heh. oh well. And that's why we don't fall over in classrooms folks.

Fallen_Angel_LJ
01-14-2006, 07:55 AM
So it turns out I'm bored...yet again. And totally putting off that homework I'm just DYING to do...heh. Although, it is only 10 to 1...so, yeah.

Did you have a good xmas and new year? My god, it already seems like it was sooooo long ago. We straight back to school after christmas to do a load of mock exams, stupid year 11 with stupid exams; so far the marks I've gotten back haven't been too bad. I've only been back what, two weeks? It already seems like months. And I don't like the fact that I'm up before the Sun...no wait, I think it's the fact that it's still kinda dark when I'm walking to the bus stop that I don't like.

Had another pointless visit to the gyn this week, but I won't go into that because that's a whole other rant waiting to happen :P

So yeah, my life's still a bit boring, but on the plus side I'm starting to lose some weight...:)

Hey peeps!

I started this thread September of 2005, and thought it would be fun *to try* to revive it in the new year of 2007 :D

May everyone be blessed this year with better coping living with PCOS!

For those teens out there who just want a thread to talk about common interests *non PCOS related*, just for fun, please add your comments :D

Here's maybe a little update on me:

Last summer I saw one of my most favorite artists in concert: Fiona Apple 8)
I VERY much hope to see at least two really good concerts this year, if I can afford the horrendous ticket prices!

And I've lost a little bit of weight, and I hope I meet my goal by my 21st b-day.

Well, that's me so far in the new year. See my PCOS peeps later
